One of our favorite Target deals is here!

Through September 26th, Target is hosting its popular Car Seat Trade-In Event where you can get rid of your old and/or expired car seat or booster seat AND earn a 20% off coupon to use on new baby gear!

For more information, head over to Target’s website.

This year’s event is contact-free…

As expected, Target’s Car-Seat Trade-In will work a little differently this year – it will be totally contact-free. Simply stop by your local Target store and drop off any used car seat in the designated boxes outside the store. Open the Target app and scan the barcode on the trade-in box and the 20% coupon will automatically be added to your Extra Offers. Just click the green checkmark next to the offer to activate it – easy peasy! *Note that this process may vary by store.

“Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged. Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partner, Waste Management.”

Your coupon will score you 20% off any car seat, booster seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller, or other select baby home gear, including play yards, high chairs, swings, rockers & bouncers – valid both in-store or on Target.com. This coupon offer will be valid from 9/13 – 10/3.

Even sweeter, you can pair your 20% off coupon with sale items for even bigger savings!

Will the 20% coupon work with the in store baby registry coupon?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! I just spoke with customer service. Here are the details on that – “the completion coupon discount can’t be combined with other “total” transaction discounts. Generally, this discount cannot combine with other unique promo codes.” Hope this is helpful!

Anyone know about Walmart’s trade in?

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I’m not seeing anything yet on their site or on the Terracycle site (who they use for the recycling). Last year, it was September 16-21 so hopefully, we’ll see something soon.

    • Lo

That was great. Since they closed it early, I have doubts they’d offer it again.

Does anyone know what kind of “baby gear” this covers? …. basically can I use it on diapers is what I want to know lol

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

No, it will not work on diapers. It usually covers car seats, strollers, playpens, and things of that nature.

Bummer. I need to buy a new car seat for my baby. But I don’t have any to trade. I hate paying full price

    • Megan

Do you have a local mom or other area Facebook group you could ask in? Or a local yard sale Facebook group? Usually people are thrilled to get rid of old or expiring seats. I didn’t have one either and asked in an area Facebook chat group, and had several people who were more than happy to have me take a seat off their hands. Picked one up from someone and it saved me $40 on a new seat!

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

You might check Facebook marketplace. There might be someone nearby offering one for free that you can recycle and grab that coupon. Or ask on your NextDoor app if someone has a booster seat or something they wanted to get rid of.

    • Jessica

You don’t need to trade one to get the coupon. You put your car seat in a big bin and scan the coupon. You could certainly scan the coupon without dropping off a seat. I put two seats in today and didn’t need a coupon so consider it mine. 😊

      • Debbie

My daughter actually tried to bring in a car seat for trade in, but she kept getting an error while trying to scan the coupon. The lady at customer service said “just tell the cashier when you’re checking out”. What she wanted to order, they didn’t have in store. So she decided to wait and try our other nearby Target. But when she got in the car, she went to her Target app and it just let her manually add the 20% to her cart. 🤷‍♀️ So, I’m sure you don’t have to really trade one in.

The Chicco Myfit is on sale for $180 this week, which is 20% off its regular price. I was able to turn in a seat and save another 20%, so paid a whopping $145 with tax on a Myfit! That’s a fantastic price on a really great seat (this is our second one, we love them!)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

What a great deal! Thanks for sharing your score with us, Megan!

I just got my 2nd forever Graco dlx, such a great deal since it was $300 a week ago. Now it’s 1/3 off, I’ll take it! This carseat is so great since it grows with your child. 1 and done!

  7. Sarah

Just traded our old one in today and picked up a Graco Extend2Fit 3-in-1! I got almost $100 off, thanks so much!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! That’s some awesome savings! Glad you could score your new seat, Sarah!

  8. Suzanne

If I gave two car seats will they give me off if I buy a new car seat from them

    • Suzanne

    40% off

  10. Delphine Brisepierre

Anyone else find it ridiculous that the coupon is only good on baby gear??? I would think most people who have trade-ins no longer have small children! What if your family is done and there are no more babies in your future?

    • KH

I know I waited so long that my first born (25 yrs old) just had a baby so now I am trading in that car seat to get one for my granddaughter! Side note it has not been used in over 16 years just live on a farm with lots of storage space. I still have all the baby gear so time to start going through it.
