Do You Have Missing Money?!
This Hip2Save.com Deal was hand-posted on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 12:52 pm.

Have you ever heard of MissingMoney.com? Until recently, I did not know that this web-site even existed. MissingMoney.com is a national database that was established in 1999 by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) and enables people like you and me to perform comprehensive searches for lost assets required by law to be turned over to the states and provinces. What does this mean in plain English…you can search for money owed to you!

The most common types of unclaimed property include:
* Bank accounts and safe deposit box contents
* Stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and dividends
* Uncashed checks and wages
* Insurance policies, CD’s, trust funds
* Utility deposits, escrow accounts
To search for your own missing money, here are the steps that you need to follow:
*Click here, enter your name, and click on “go.” You can do an individual, family or business search (you can even search for a deceased family member).
*If you find a match, you must complete a claim form. Most states and provinces require a specific form to be completed which asks pertinent information about the property and proof of ownership, such as copies of checkbook, passbook, bonds, etc.
*Follow the instructions to complete the specified form and supply any necessary documentation and identification.
*The claim form and ID are then mailed to the state for review. The state will respond to you directly after they have reviewed your submission and verified that you are the rightful owner.
*Most states send you an acknowledgment letter after receiving your claim. Claims processing time frames vary between states and provinces and property to property based upon claim activity.
Please note that there are currently only 44 states whose records are contained in the MissingMoney database: click here to view the list of participating states (Illinois and Rhode Island will be added soon).
Thanks to one of my readers for making me aware of this site. She found 5 claims for her husband and friends of money owed including overpayment of taxes, an airline that owed for a missing bag, and an overpaid utility bill from the 1990′s! Please let us know in the comment section below if you find money owed to you or your family.

Found my name with my old employer’s name; called because I did not like the idea of sending in a copy of my soc sec card and driver’s license. The women who answered the phone looked it up and I found out from her that it was not me by the extra information she gave me!

Both case they got their money back. One was over $900.00. The website is for real…although I my name never seems to appear on there, SHUCKS! For real though, it is not a scam people. I didn’t know about this website but I know that the state of Missouri has it on the treasurer’s website. Like once a year the state puts a list of people that have money in the small town’s newspapers. I looked several years ago and found out that my Uncle had some bonds that my Grandpa bought that nobody knew about and he ended up selling for a couple thousand dollars!Then my Dad had a life insurance policy that his parents got for him when he was born and he cashed it in for like $1500. Then my husband had 2 different ones that were deposits from utilities that came to $135. My father and father-in-law still have money to claim but haven’t. I would check everybody that you know and let them know about it The money just sits until somebody claims it.

I found out about this site a couple years ago and my sons father was one of the people I found that had money owed to them. It took a while but he got around $40 from McDonalds. Also, some insurance company owed my Grandfather over $100 but I don’t speak with any longer so I’m not sure if he ever collected. This is very legit. I actually first heard about this site in a Kiplinger magazine.
Kim says:
I so wish my name was on there lol…. I found my grandfather’s name on this site yrs ago and it was well over $1000… and for finding it, he sent me a check for a little over $100 for a “finder’s fee”
Cristy says:

No money for me, but both my mom and dad had some. I called to tell them while they were out for dinner. My mom said, “Now we can get dessert….without the coupon!” Thought you would appreciate that! Your site is awesome! Keep up the great hunting!!!
Maezy says:
I hope it’s not too late to ask a question for all you hip2savers out there. My husband many years ago had discovered his bank account in France to have disappeared. Wondering if anyone knows how we might inquire about any ‘missing money’ or funds from France or Europe if any such entity exists. Thanks for any replies that we might be lucky enough to receive. GREATLY APPRECIATED.
