Save up to 30% at your favorite stores.

Did you know that there is approximately $30 billion in unused gift cards, an average of $300 per household, likely sitting in kitchens, sock drawers, cookie jars etc. across the United States?!

Do you have a gift card that you received for your birthday or Christmas that is for a merchant you rarely shop with? Have you tried to visit the store but can’t find anything you want. Or do you feel obligated to buy something you don’t really need just to make use of the gift card?

Have you spent part of the value of a gift card but just don’t have any interest in spending the remaining amount (and would rather have the cash)?!

Have you been forced to take a store credit when you return presents from a birthday party or wedding?!

If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, then you’ll be excited to learn about Plastic Jungle! Plastic Jungle is a great way to sell, buy, exchange or donate gift cards on the internet. Here’s how it works…

* Get Cash – Cash in gift cards with a minimum balance of $25 for up to 92% of the verified card balance. You can also exchange your unwanted or partially used gift cards for purchasing power at stores like Amazon.com, or donate them for the benefit of your favorite nonprofit organization. Plastic Jungle will provide you with a FREE USPS shipping label for your convenience which also allows them to track your package. Simply mail in your gift card(s), and they’ll send you payment based on the offer you select. For example, if I have a $25 Target gift card that I do not want, I can cash it in via Plastic Jungle for $23 in cash (they’ll mail a check within two business days after receipt of the gift card) OR I can cash it in for a $24.15 Amazon.com gift card (the Amazon.com claim code will come via email within one business day after receipt of the gift card). How cool is that?!

* Save Money – Gift cards on Plastic Jungle can be purchased at a discount, which means you can save up to 30% off your next shopping trip (that’s on top of any store sales, coupons, or specials they might be running). And they offer FREE SHIPPING! For example, I can currently snag a $25 AMC Theatres Gift card for $22.50 or a $100 Walmart Gift Card for $96 (if you’re a frequent Walmart, you might as well buy the $100 gift card since it comes with FREE shipping).

* Donate Gift Cards – You can give part (or all) of a gift card’s cash-in value to your favorite charity or nonprofit.

I’ve used this before. My husband and I had enough gift cards between us, we were able to send them in and then buy a big screen tv. I did do a test card first, it was just a $20 card to make sure it was legitimate. Then once we got our check, we mailed in the rest of them. It was a little scary sending so much money in the mail, knowing we could lose it all. But, it worked and we were able to get a great tv out of it!

I can vouch for the company as well. I’ve never sold one, but I’ve purchased cards from them before. I get Starbucks cards (I go there every day, so why not save a little) and shipping is free!

I was going to add that post-Christmas…it was great. Much higher %s off and more cards.

I LOVE Plastic Jungle! I just bought 3 cards off there last month and saved about $18 total. They were for Walmart, Target, and Payless Shoes, all of which I shop at regularly anyway and I put that extra $18 in my savings account! 🙂

I have a Sephora card I’m not using and I’d rather have an Amazon card. But for a $50 Sephora card they only give me $42 amazon. That’s an 18% loss for me. I’ll just keep it for that. But its a cool idea!

I buy from plastic jungle, and their service is great – you can get ahold of a real person by phone, email, on facebook, and on twitter. They respond quickly in all formats. Why not save a little money by using gift cards where I shop anyway 🙂

    • FairyDust

one other comment – they fully guarantee the cards. So if you order a card and it gets lost in the mail, you get a full refund.

I use them too and love them! I do a major purchase right before Black Friday for the stores that I know I’m going to, it makes Black Friday that much sweeter!

I used Swapagift.com before they merged with giftcards.com – their selection went downhill after the merge (however higher % on what they do have). I now use Plastic Jungle :)…I buy Target at 3% off – small but it is more % off than I had originally…

    • Kathie

If you use your Target card (credit or debit) you will soon be able to save 5% nationwide (currently it’s just in select cities).

Ugh…have an Anthrpologie gift card that I can’t seem to find anything in the store to buy. Plastic Jungle would only give me 70% of the card’s value…defintely not worth it!

    • cindi

Looooove that store. I would be willing to do a paypal transaction with you for 80%. Just an idea 🙂

  10. afeya

I use them all the time and love it! I only cash out for amazon..it takes about 2 weeks for everything to be sent out and your money given..

We bought Lowe’s cards from Plastic Jungle when we put in new laminate flooring. They were running between 7-9% discount, and who couldn’t use that on a home improvement project? Lowe’s gift cards were pretty plentiful right after Christmas, but now it is hard to snag them. They will send you an email when the card you are looking for is in stock, however, if it’s a popular one then you have to move fast. I’ve put a card in my shopping cart and then had them become no longer available by the time I got through the shipping/payment confirmation. Purchased at least 5 times from them and never had a problem, I’d recommend…

I have a GAP gift card I don’t want but they will only give me 80% of the value – not worth it 🙁
I’ll look into buying some though!

I use Ebay – I have sold gift cards on Ebay for when I return things and can only get store credit and want the cash instead. People generally pay what a gift card is worth or more on Ebay fro smaller amount cards, not sure why.

I sold a gift card starting bid was .99 and it was worth $65 and it sold for $64 with shipping – shipping cost me the value of a stamp.

Ebay has larger amount cards for less – liek a $300 card you can buy for $275 or something like that.

      • Tilla

i have always wondered, and never been able to figure out, why people pay more than the stated value for gift cards on ebay. my husband thought it was a fluke, so just out of boredom, i check it a few times a week, and gift cards are selling for at least a few bucks more than they are worth….curiouser and curiouser

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was selling Visa Gift cards on Ebay for $125 for a $100 card. I couldn’t figure out why they would pay more but was happy they were. After ebay and paypal fees and shipping, I only made around $10. Well, around a week later, a guy who had purchased $1500 in cards did a chargeback on all 14 transactions. If I had not sent them with a tracking number so I could prove that they were received, I would have lost all the money. Once I gave the tracking number to Paypal, they released my money to me. If you ever sell a gift card, don’t just stick a stamp on it, you can’t prove that you sent it or that it was delivered. You need to go to your post office and pay extra to get a delivery confirmation. Boy am I glad I did it that way. 4 other people that I sold cards to tried to scam me the same way but I won because I had a tracking number. Who knows, they all could have been the same guy.

          • Angie

There are more and more people doing that on Ebay, saying they never got an item to get the money back! Now I ALWAYS get delivery confirmation on items I sell there.

  13. Melissa

Sounds like it’s more of a major label deal. I have one for Inspa and the triple door and neither were listed. Sounds like a great idea otherwise!

Are some of these Store Credits rather than gift cards? I am thinking that they might be since they are of such odd amounts. Some stores will not allow you to use Store Credits for online purchases, for example Gymboree will not.

    • Kathie

I think the odd amounts are because people have partially used gift cards that they send in. I have also gotten some odd amounts when returning an item and the return price has to go on a gift card.

  15. Paige

That’s great to know. I’ve got a couple of gift cards I won’t ever use, I would love Amazon credit instead.

  16. kathy

I just signed up and I am sending in my $25 gift card to AMC Theatres for $20 in cash. That’s a great deal for me considering I don’t have an AMC anywhere near me!

  17. Samantha

I have been using Plastic Jungle the past few months and love it! I also use giftcards.com — both sites have free shipping and I have only purchased cards from them. Even if it is a small discount, I keep cards for stores I frequent like Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret and Walmart. I would rather have an in store discount that I can see right away rather than using a cash back site if the savings is greater. It’s really cool to get great deals with coupons at the above stores and know that I am saving say 10-15% more by using a gift card.

I have found that (I think on giftcards.com) the savings is greater buying the Old Navy gift cards than it would be to get the rewards back using and Old Navy card — plus, you just save money and don’t have to spend more at the store if that makes sense!

I am not sure which of the sites it is, but at least one of them tells what kind of card you are purchasing; whether it is a holiday design, an actual gift card or merchandise credit.

I would like to share a tip I just found about a discount gift card exchange called abcgiftcards.com . You can buy sell and trade gift cards at discounted prices from all National retailers.

  21. Susan

I’ve used quite a few of the gift card exchange websites as well. There’s so many now that I look at http://www.SellMyCard.info just to see what’s available. Love the service AND the ability to shop at so many places at discount!
