What is a maps-for-life unit? sorry for my ignorance 🙂

      • SimplySara

Maps for Life means that map updates for the life of the unit are included in the price. Since routes can change a lot in a year or two, your GPS can give you wrong directions if you don’t update the maps.

      • Steve

Map updates. Some units come with lifetime map updates. The maps on these units are static, they must be updated every so often to get new roads, exit changes, etc incorporated.

$400 is an inflated price, which sometimes happens on amazon. I still think that $100 is a good price, but I would do the research on this one before purchasing and not just go by the lure of 75% off 🙂

I’ve been seeing more and more things like that on Amazon. 🙁

A lot of stores do it too, Kohls, Kmart, Shopko, Jcpenney etc…

I have been in the market for one of these. So is this not really that great of a price? What do you all suggest instead? Thanks!

Barbara, this is a great price and Garmin is a good brand. I bought my Garmin GPIS last november for $200 on amazon and I love it to death! I would recommend getting this if you’re in the market for a GPS. They are very easy to use – I’m getting it for my mom for christmas.

Barbara – I purchased a refurbished Magellan from Overstock.com and have not had any problems with it…2-ish years later, it is still going strong.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Check out Costco. They have great prices on GPS units.

I was just going to post that the retail on this is a complete lie. I bought this exact same gps a few years ago for around a hundred bucks at Frys. Shame on you Amazon. Thanks for the thought though Collin, not your fault!!

thx!!! ive been lookin for one of these for my husb. he is a truck driver, if nothin else it will be somethin for him to play wit!!!!

    • ipreferpublix

My husband is a truck driver too and we just bought him a GPS specifically for truck drivers. It is waaaay worth the extra dollars to splurge on the truck driver version. They input their weight, length and height of trailer before the route and the unit warns them if they come up on a street that’s not allowed for the height/weight of the truck – it also avoids routing them on highways if an interstate is faster for the truck, etc.

I would look into it, rather than buying this one.

Do you happen to have a link or the name/model of the one that you bought. I would like to check it out. My husband is also a truck driver (long haul so he goes clear across the country and back) and I would like to look into a different gps than the one he currently has. Thanks in advance.

If you go to http://www.camelcamelcamel.com you can type in any amazon link, and it gives you the pricing history…very useful to see if something is actually a deal or if it’s just amazon saying its a deal.

    • K Crew

      that’s awesome, thanks!

    • Barbara (MissMetabolism.com)

Wow, this is one of the coolest sites I’ve seen. So useful. Thanks!

  7. Sue

Even though the retail price is a lie, this is a good price. The lowest price this GPS has been before today is 119.99

If you need to do a payment plan this one looks good. It will cost a little under $180 if you get the 12month membership to audible.com. You pay $15 for your first month, you get one credit towards your book, they send you a coupon code good for $100 off the GPS making it free! You can download books, newspapers and such to your GPS. Has anyone used Audible.com??

    • Lisa

My husband is a member and loves it. I hate paying $15 per month though.

  9. Heather

Just ordered this GPS for my dad. He researched it & said this was a good unit for the price.

  10. Sarah

You can also get this exact same one at Target this week for the exact same price with the $20 q on their site and sale price of $119:) Our GPS just died Saturday so I am researching our next one…
