Yeah! What timing…just this morning realized I still need to grab a new calendar….and then you post this 🙂
Once again, Collin & Co. saved me a few bucks =D

My only gripe about getting some high dollar coupons or free offers is being directed to Facebook for nearly everything these days. I have considered closing my FB account many times but I see that EVERY celebrity, News station, bank, commercial company, or the like have a FB page. I have even written a company for coupons and guess what – i was directed to ‘like’ them on FB and check back periodically for special offers instead in place of them mailing them out to me. Am I over reacting or does anyone else get my dislike for being forced to ‘LIKE’ a company in order to get something. I don’t like the propaganda behind using FB for advertisement these days. Get this, I applied for a few jobs on the web recently and it MADE me sign in to FB or LinkedIn to affliate my profile with one or the other just to see the job description and apply. I was shocked and almost did not apply because I don’t like just anyone looking at my FB information. I hope others will share their concerns or tell me I am over reacting!

I completely agree. I have thought of setting up a FB page just for companies. I haven’t done it yet though since I don’t use my FB very often.

I have one just for this and an email account too! I have no personal stuff on my Q FB page and no friends. I now have 3 FB accounts, but I hardly check any of them. 😉

In my opinion, it’s a nuisance but why should they send us free stuff and not expect us to help promote them. They don’t have to give us free things. It costs them money to do so. That’s what marketing is all about. That’s the ‘deal’ you’re making with them. You give them a little promo help and they send you free stuff.

Now, the job thing, that’s creepy and none of their business. That’s surprising that businesses can do that actually.

Also, I’ve thought of making a second account for these, mainly so as not to spam my friends, but think of this scenario first: You win a big prize, like cash money or something huge. They check your fb and realize it’s a 2nd or “dummy” account. You don’t win said prize. The rules almost always state that they will verify your eligibility. I know that is a “dream” scenario, but just think how stupid you’d feel if you did win something big and then not be able to get it because you didn’t want to “like” them on FB.
          I’m just sayin’…

I started my fb acct only for product stuff, then a few friends found out and I friended them, and somehow my fb exploded with them + relatives! (not that I mind, its great to catch up with the gals from HS and relatives I don’t see much of)

It was hard to keep up, so now when I “like” a product/co. whatever, I just X out their news feeds, except for Swagbucks (never know when a code will come up!) and if there’s a contest or coupon, Collin is usually on top of it, so I can just log in to my acct and sign up, even if I don’t actually see the news feed.

FB is marketing for these co’s and they are moving with the times!

Thanks Tamara.. I like your perspective and I see valid points in your opinion. Mamma did say that nothing is life if free. However, I would argue that if couponing did not become so mainstream -then we would not see such a surge to use FB, twitter and the like. Unfortunately, when I started couponing many years ago – there were few others who knew how to use them properly to save the most amount of money.

            • Tamara M

I agree, Toni. If it wasn’t for this site, I sure wouldn’t know how to get the most out of couponing either. (or it would take me all day just to get coupons figured out with all the deals optimized. I’d be a full-time couponer.)

On a side note–I wonder what Collin puts as her occupation on tax forms…Professional Coupon Queen? Hmmm inquiring minds wanna know!
