So I am a new mom, is it ok to switch up the brands of formula? Or is it best to just keep with the brand I started with?
as long as u use pedialyte durring the switch its fine
Switching formula can be tricky.. Some baby are okay with it but some babies can have stomach ache..
It just depends on your baby. If she/he is really young, I wouldnt try it. If they are a bit older, it wouldnt hurt to give it a try, but I would buy the similar kind of formula – for instance, if you feed Enfamil, find the CVS version of Enfamil and try that one. 🙂
I switched from breastfeeding to formula when my baby was 7 months old, and I was able to use different kinds of formula with her. It probably depends on the baby, though.
I went back and forth between similac and the store brand equivilant with my son with no issues. They are almost identical with ingredients. But I never switched between say similac and enfamil.
Yes, you can switch BRANDS of formula (unless your little one seems to have tummy issues). I switched between Similac, Enfamil and generic brands with my daughter without issues, although I tried not to switch constantly, especially when she was little-bitty. Nutritionally they’re the same, the biggest differences are taste, color and texture.
You may not want to switch between TYPES of formula though. Most brands have a Standard, Gentle, Spit-Up, Soy, etc. formula. For example, if your baby needs Gentlease in Enfamil, you should probably try Sensitive if you switch to Similac.
I usually tried to switch gradually, unless I wasn’t paying attention and we completely ran out. For instance I’d make a couple bottles with 3/4 old & 1/4 new then half and half old/new then 1/4 old and 3/4 new. Just be careful because the scoop sizes can vary a bit between brands. Make sure you’re still using good bottle mixing techniques (measure the water carefully, make sure the bottles and nipples are clean/sterile and most importantly don’t pack the powder into the scoops).
I’m not baby expert, just a mom who used formula so maybe I’m missing something, but I’ve never heard of giving Pedialyte along with formula, especially as tool for switching brands. I’d be cautious giving Pedialtye to an infant and would recommend further research or maybe a quick call to your pediatrician.
just for comparison when the sale is over you can get a big can of store brand formula at kroger for $12.49
I agree with the above posters 🙂 I used Target brand formula with all 3 of mine simply because it was always the best deal but around 9 months I would use whatever as long as it was the same type.
I just called my CVS here in Montana and they are 18.99 BOGO 1/2. FYI
Use this same coupon for Walgreens Brand. Then order 2 online for web pickup. Your total will be $23.98 I think. Use the code on the website home page (MAY5 maybe???) to take $5 off your order. When you take the 2 manufacturer coupons off your total will be right around $9. Mine was $9.31 with tax.
That’s under $5 for each can! Can’t beat it!
that code didn’t work; where did you get it from? I don’t see it on the webpage…
Anna, I figured out how to make the code work if you haven’t used your coupons yet. Go to walgreens.com/webpickup then when it is time for checkout it will ask for a promotional code..then put in FIVEMAY. You do have to go under sale baby products to pull up the BOGO sale or else it won’t work. Good luck! It will be $7.58 for 2 large jars when I pickup this morning.
I didn’t think you could combine those two deals?
Yes you can. I did it twice and had no problems. The code is FIVEMAY.
Tried, it definitely isn’t a working code.
Hmmm, it was working yesterday.
So, I found another code (CFIVE) but when I put it in my cart, they are not BOGO 1/2? How did you get it to come up at that? And, my coupon says “Purchase of $20 or more is calculated before taxes and after all other Walgreens coupons and discounts are applied. So, because this coupon is a manufacturers coupon it will still work? Thanks for your help!
For those of you who may be pregnant, breastmilk is free 🙂
Duh! Some people have to formula feed because of health issues in mother or baby.
Betsy, I think that every single pregnant woman reading this post knows that breastmilk is the first and best option. However, some of us (because of medications that we need to take) cannot breastfeed our children.
Your comment wasn’t necessary.
I was waiting for this…
EVERY time there is a formula post someone starts the breast milk vs. formula debate.
Let the games begin!
(Seriously, maybe we could avoid this discussion, just this one time, before poor Collin gets scared to post any deals that may be “controversial”)
that was my thought too, until i gave birth and couldn’t get my milk to come out enough to have my little guy be healthy, the doctors forced me to give him formula… and whenever i did get some milk in, he didn’t want to take it anymore… then again i had my bf’s mom, her bf & their dog living with us for the first week (who visits a newborn with their dog?) and my mom was leaving rude messages on my voicemail.. so stress & the nurses at the hospital forcing him formula and pacifiers (mostly the bf mom stress), made me not able to produce milk for him
Betsy,
Not everybody can have it 🙁
I have enfamil coupons- if anyone interested, and if any of you have Similac chevks/ coupons- would be very happy to get them 🙂 pretty please!
My e-mail- zakret@yahoo.com
My bany boy was fine with any type of formula, my girl- tolerates only soy Similac.
I’d say it depends on digestive system. My dr said not to switch it untill she is 6 mths old.
And considering that finally after 4 mths i can sleep total of 5 hrs a night- i am not even trying to give her anything diffrent.
Collin,
I think the CVS e-gift card deal is over. I just ordered it and didn’t get the $5 promo one. THEN I read the comments on that post and people are saying the same thing — even last week. Should have read those comments first, but it’s not a loss as I’ll spend $25 at CVS easily in the next few months.
Or… did I do something wrong?
There used to be a banner saying something like “buy $25 e-GC, get $5 e-GC free” at CVS website, but now it’s gone. So, I believe the GC deal is over. 🙁
Tried to check out and it isn’t giving me any type of BOGO. Is there a code I need? Or is it only in store? I don’t see anywhere on the site where it says baby formula is BOGO
too bad i don’t have one anywhere close to me to try this
