You’re not supposed to put your email… Just nickname

      • Gloria

Could be her website or that she wants her email to be shown. Nothing wrong with that?

  9. Amber

im so mad too because I had to go through all this verifying crap and it was in my cart then it sold out because of all the bs it was making me do first.

Tangential to the topic. My daughter will soon start needing “feminine products.” Not sure I want her putting potentially toxic products in her body every month for the next 30+ years. (Not sure I want to do it anymore after 30+ years) Are there other options besides pads? Thanks!

    • CRISTAL

I am in the same boat. There’s the cup, but I don’t think I want my daughter risking the leaks at school with cups and pads…

      • Rachiejordi

There is a product called the diva cup. I’ve never used it but women I know have and they like it.

        • Sheila

The Diva Cup is Ah-Mazing!!! Just read the Amazon reviews, they speak for themselves. Probably too embarrassing to suggest to your girlfriends, thus many may not know about it. I highly recommend plus you save SO much not having to keep purchasing products each month.

There are cloth pads which are reusable & free of chemicals/toxins. I’ve been using them for three years now since becoming more informed about the products we use. I started with light flow cloth pads first just to see if I’d like the idea. And I love it. I’ll introduce them to my daughter when the time comes.

I think there are organic products available.

I just started using soft cups, and I LOVE them. They sit under the cervix and collect the flow, and then you throw it away after one use. They can be left in for up to 12 hours, which means they are okay to sleep in as well. There are lots of different menstrual cups out there. When inserted correctly, you don’t need to worry about leaks. I usually wear a liner with them and might have one or two drips throughout the entire day, which is a lot more than can be said for any tampon I have ever used.

I know Whole Foods sells organic type tampons and pads, so that might be an option as well.

I also see that Rephresh has been mentioned. I purchased that brand once several years ago (I think it was free after Extra Care Bucks), and wasn’t a fan. I remember thinking how much larger those tampons were compared to the same “size” in tampax/playtex tampons. Mainly they were longer. Not a huge deal for adults, but that might be problematic for a preteen/teen.

      • CW

I had issues with Rephresh as well , got a few with ECBs at CVS. Tried them twice and threw all boxes out.

Same here…..but I have another question that is kind of embarrassing—-how does one “teach” their daughter how to use??? Or don’t they “start” with tampons? My daughter does gymnastics and I don’t know how to ask any other moms (that I don’t know well) and don’t want to! My mother was of german upbringing and told me absolutely NOTHING and I didn’t talk to my friends about this (I don’t know why???) And so I have nothing to go on here…..I only used pads until college which included many embarrassing situations through high school, I was so naive and unknowing. Or is there a website that talks about this?

      • Chelsea h.

My mom sent me to the bathroom
One time with the instruction booklet from a box and stood outside the door and talked me Through the instructions. I only used pads the first couple periods I had and then once I got the hang of tampons, I never used them again.

      • Pat

http://Www.beinggirl.com is a tampax run site about getting your first period, etc
There’s supposed to be a package you can buy that’s like a “how to” kit for your first period that includes pads, tampons and an informational booklet

      • Gloria

Yes www.https://ubykotex.com is a website by Kotex that has 100s of teens talking on there about it and how they should NEVER be ashamed. I checked it out myself a few years ago when I was a teen. Never tried the tampax one but I’m sure it’s good too!

      • anjo

My mom only gave me pads when I started. I learned how to use tampons by going in the bathroom and my best friend was on the other side of the door talking me through it. Haha you never know, her best friend could teach her 🙂

      • Laura

My mom only used pads so I had to teach myself how to use them! It was definitely trial and error. For a while I wouldn’t put it far enough up so it hurt! I used pads for probably 3-4 years before I ever used a tampon.
