Woo Hoo! Great news for all you Target shoppers! Target just announced that a new price-matching policy will begin tomorrow, October 1st. The biggest and most exciting change is that you can now price match a total of TWENTY-NINE online competitors including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Costco.com (so excited about this one!), Gamestop.com and Macys.com. And you can price match both at your local Target store AND online at Target.com.

Target is also doubling the time frame in which you can take advantage of a price match on a product – from 7 days to 14 days for products bought both in store and online. Awesome!

Note that the current Price Matching Policy on Target.com does not reflect these new changes which are scheduled to go live tomorrow. Check out this article for more information.

    Awesome!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      😀

  2. Jen

Yayy!! So even after I commit to a big purchase there is a chance that I can get it even cheaper!

  3. Sherah

Target is SO awesome!!! Looking forward to more online deal scenarios!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yay! 😉

  4. Jen

I swear living in Hawaii definitely has couponing and discount drawbacks. Alaska and Hawaii are currently excluded from online price match, but I wonder if it will now match Target online prices since we ship for free if we use our RedCard.

    • Teri

My store PM’s Target.com as long as it’s not a clearance price. Last week however the CS mentioned they would no longer PM food items like the fruit snacks I was PMing at the time that will go in DS’s preschool Halloween ghoulie bags. I don’t coupon but I do take advantage of PMing and Cartwheel since everything costs so much more in Hawaii. The availability of Target.com and Amazon allows me to purchase things for my family I normally would not. I hope your store changes it’s policy😊 I ❤️❤️❤️ Target.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        Thanks for sharing Teri 🙂

  5. cynthia

Hopefully Target fully trains their staff on these changes.

    • Susan

I have to agree with you there….Training needs to be done with EVERYONE that uses a register, NOT just the cashiers.

    • Amy

Agreed! My Target’s coupon policy changes everyday, one manager says one thing, and another says something else. I’ve contacted the store manager and she just brushed off my concerns for a uniformed policy.

  6. Ben

For some reason they still won’t price match “City Target”

  7. kristina

So we can price match Costco and use coupons!!!

  8. Pat

Well, until they let you price match at the register, I will not be price matching there. It’s ridiculous to have to go to Customer Service to price match.

    • Jen

I second that notion! Customer service lines are ridiculous!

    • Sue

I am fortunate. The two Targets I shop at in Michigan did away with customer service centers and have three cashier lines for refunds and price matches so there is never a very long line 🙂

      • sandra e

our target’s customer service line also services regular purchases, and I HATE IT! If I want to return and item or pay my bill, I have to wait in line behind people buying a bunch of stuff… grrr… why can’t they just have a separate customer service section like everyone else?

  9. CrescentCityCurly

I just hope they throughly train the cashiers in how this new policy works. I’d hate to hold up the line everytime I want to price match.

    • taya

      ughh AGREE!!

  10. Susan

I don’t understand how you can price match when shopping on Target.com. Can anyone explain to me how this will work?

    • S

      Me too. Pls explain 🙂

    • Samantha H

Wondering the same!! Sure will be awesome tho!!

    • Paley Whit

I was about to post this same questions.

      • Anna

You will probably have to call the 800 number and place an order over the phone

        • Gina

The chat team does it as well

          • Shondorp

            Thanks Gina!

  11. CourtneyAmanda

Employees are not even YET trained on coupons. I get some of the most odd and uninformed responses regarding coupons at Target.

    • Lori

I was told by two cashiers in my closest Target that I could not use Manufacturer coupons on a Gift Card deal. I could either use the MQs or take the Gift Card. I asked for a manager for clarification. He told them to just go ahead and accept my MQs and allow me the gift card, but he couldn’t give my a definite answer on what the policy is for that store. I know that is not in Target’s official coupon policy. So can each store make up its own rules or was the manager clueless as well? I just avoid that Target now and drive the extra five minutes to the next one where they don’t question coupon deals.

      • Jennifer

I was told nearly the same thing at one of my local Target stores too! It wasn’t a gift card deal, but it was a really good sale price. They told me I couldn’t use ANY additional coupons on those items, because “it’s a good enough price as it is.” Ummm I didn’t realize they could refuse coupons at their discretion just because they determine something is “cheap enough.”

      • Pam

I called the 800 # about this once, because my local Target would not accept a Manufacturer’s coupon for the item I was purchasing because the picture on the coupon did not match. The coupon was applicable to any item made by this manufacturer, but they said I had to buy just that item pictured on the coupon. Upon calling the 800 # I was informed that coupon acceptance is up to each individual store to set its own rules. That the discretion was left on the local level. For this reason and the many times I had problems using coupons at Target, I stopped shopping there for a long time. I have only now gone back but am super careful about which coupon offers I attempt. I also only go when they first open up, so that I can test the deals out and not hold up a huge line.

        • Thia

Pam you’re too kind! You should never hesitate to use a coupon or be worried about holding up lines. If they do get backed up it’s not on YOU to correct it, CS is suppose to call for additional support and if I see that not happening, I’ll call them out on it. Mind you I’m not a rude person nor am I rude to CS or cashiers, but some times one should speak up.

          • Laura

Thia, I agree. I had someone behind me this weekend. Huffin’ and puffin’ and rolling her eyes because my coupon wouldn’t go through. She called a manager over and come to find out she was just scanning it wrong. It’s not MY fault.
I laugh at people that don’t use coupons and cartwheel. Go ahead and waste your hard earned money! Not me!

            • Far

I was checking out with a cart full of stuff, and the cashier was ready to scan my pile of coupons, then an old guy came behind me to load his stuff to checkout. Then the cashier kindly told him that it’ll take a bit longer here because he has piles coupons to scanned, and offer him to move his stuff to different register. He said, “oh that’s fine, i’ll wait”. Less than half way the cashier scanning my coupons, he started to cursed; including F word in front of my 3.5 yo daughter, while moving his stuff to different register. There’s always people hating you for doing absolutely nothing WRONG. Just don’t bother, because they don’t pay your bill.

      • Vivian

If you get a bad experience at the register I highly suggest taking their receipt survey and stating exactly how you think their service was and what the problems are. I’m pretty sure that if there is a bad survey and you request to have someone from the store contact you, the manager will call. Most times those bad surveys are sent to corporate and the district managers see them too. Usually they take those bad surveys very seriously. I just had to do a bad one because my CS rep refused to let me exchange diapers for a larger size. He wanted me to return, then repurchase thus losing all discounts and savings I previously had. He told me I can never exchange since there are different sku’s. Clearly he was lying or totally ignorant, cuz then you could never exchange a shirt size if you bought it on sale? So frustrating but the manager was super nice and said he would train the employee.

        • Laura

Oh I have. I had a very rude gal ONCE. so I reported her on the survey. I’m sure she knew it was me. I was VERY specific with my complaint. She’s “nice” now. But only because she has to be.
Hey! If you don’t like working retail/customer service – get out.
And for all the others NOT using coupons – well that’s your problem. I’m glad they can afford the $200 plus receipt. I can’t. So I coupon.

          • Kelly

Maybe you just caught her on a bad day;) we all have them and try not to let it show but sometimes that can be really hard. If you very consistently food service now, maybe you could put that on a survey so she can be recognized for how much better she’s doing?

  12. Nora

Will they have a website like Walmart where you can just enter your receipt?

  13. Laura

I had an issue price matching target.com for the swiffer wet refills. They did give me the deal after all, but the manager was saying I could either price match OR get the $5 goft card that came with buying 3 swiffer products.

Has anyone seen this in their policy?

    • sherry

I’m not sure of the policy but I’ve had experiences where CS does not want to honor a price match so they make up rules and when they show me the policy the rules don’t match the policy but they insist they do. I’ve given up on price matching in store at target. Even if something is available on target.com for purchase they won’t price match because they will say their ipad says the item is not in stock (when clearly it is because I can check out on target.com with it). Just a big hassle and waste of time.

    • Sue

It is listed under the exclusions section that GC deals are excluded.

      • Laura

Sue, If you have that link, could you post it. I can’t find it online. I’d love to read the full exclusion. Not that I’m trying to get away with anything. But I like know the policy with this or any store.

    • Alea

Haven’t seen that, but I do know you can only price match one like item.

      • Thia

Alea, I have heard of this and have gone through it, but in terms of PM one like item – that has yet to happen at any of the Targets close to me. I took photos of all the Legos that were 50% off at Kroger, showed it to the manager and he PM it. I saved an additional 5% using my RC and using my own bags!

        Every store does run differently.

        • Momof4

You are lucky. Last week i saw a skylander toy cheaper on amazon my son wanted it so badly so i took to customer service waited in line for 30min and when i told her that its available cheaper at amazon as seen on my iphone but she said ahe qould check on her ipad and what she cant even find the item on her ipad. She was just inputting some number dpci and it was coming item not found or something and she wont pricematch. Even though i would clearly see it on ny phone and it was sold by amazon only but she wont budge sge said if the item is not coming on the screen she is not price matching i told her to look for the upc but she wont. My son was so upset and in tears but she wont let him have the toy at the price. I was so mad so i just left the store and told my son i would buy on amazon instead even if it takes some time to come. But is this how they price match just scanning dpci on the ipad and not even looking at amazon website. Then good luck with it. And yeah the toy was cheaper by five dollars only. She was acting like i am trying to cheat her.

      • Laura

Alea, it’s just very frustrating. One day the manager gives the ok. And everything moves smoothly. The next day, different manager – whole new set of rules.
Make up your mind Target and stick to one set of rules!

      • ash8276

Alea, I feel you on that. I’ve gotten a handful of products before and tried to price match to just Target.com and they claimed they could only price match ONE of the items. And if they price matched then I could not used coupons. Such a wishy washy policy with price matching & coupons…I wish it was consistent everywhere so I didn’t have to a). Get glares while checking out, haha AND b.) read them their own policy.

  14. Arlene

Colin, I over heard someone at customer service telling a customer that starting tomorrow there would also be a ship to store option where before it was only available for pick up if it was in stock. I haven’t seen any details out. Have you saw anything?

    • Katie

I heard the customer service manager talking about a new ship to store too but didn’t catch all the details.

    • Vivian

Yes a manager at my store told me this, I didn’t think much about it because I have a red card for free shipping anyways. I think it’s more for people who aren’t home to pick up their deliveries during the day

  15. deb

Great pictures, I bet there was alot oh ooh’n and aah’n and laughs going on tryin to position yourself on them there carts! You always make me laugh……

    • taya

      Agree! Awesome pics! 😀

    • Jennifer

OMGosh, right? I thought ALL the comments would be about Collin’s awesome pictures on the carts! WOW.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      😉

    • Julie at Koncept Cars

And she did it in heels it looks like… Amazing. 👠

  16. Mhairi

While this is awesome, I tend to shop at Wal-Mart (yuck) because in order to price match, you just scan your receipt and they issue a credit for the difference. Then you can later get that difference in the form of a gift card. This takes MUCH less time than bringing in ads and asking them to match the prices. I hope this goes electronic. If so, I will definitely switch! I love Target.

    • Laura

That works – IF other stores have a sale. If it’s a normal every day price say at Target and you’re shopping at Walmart. Their system won’t catch it. For me, I have found it to be a waste. Glad it’s worked great for you.

    • cbeths

Also, the savings catcher excludes “drug stores.” So if its on sale at Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, etc the app is not going to catch it, you’ll have to price match those in the store. Also, they have now excluded produce from the Savings Catcher… although you can still price match it at the register. There are exclusions listed under “matching” on this walmart site: https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/faq

    • CJ

I do savings catcher bc to me it’s free money but it definitely adds up slowly now that you can no longer double it to bluebird. I also price match produce & bread every time bc it’s easy to do at the register.

  17. Michele

So super excited !!!! Way to go Target !

  18. STACY

Colin it would be great if you can do a call with the CS for Target and tell them all our issues – Please ?

    • Erin

How would that help? Target has an official policy. They can’t do anything about stores not honoring it if they don’t know which stores are the problems. If you have an issue, you need to call with date, store, and employee names, if possible.

  19. CJ

LOVE that you can match online! (but want to know how it would work). I moved out to the sticks two months ago & online is my only Target option. I wish they would accept cartwheels online!

    • Jaclyn

      cartwheels online would be awesome!

  20. Mb9826

Wow! This is awesome that Target will do this when it seems like other stores are taking away deals they are making it better. Go Target! I do feel some frustrations that some stores will challenge everything and others go above and beyond. I try to give all of my sales to those who have better customer service and follow their policies.

  21. Jaclyn

I wonder how the price matching will work when you are shopping online, hopefully they make it easy.

  22. jess

Can i use a mobile target coupon and a target coupon on the same product?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Only one target coupon per item 🙁

    • eyez

      no you can’t jess

    • Molly K

But you CAN do a cartwheel offer and a Target coupon together.

  23. Mary Beth

I heard Target is also starting a ship to store option as well

  24. Joy

What I REALLY wish they would accept is being able to show store ads on our phones. It is such a hassle having to bring a paper ad, most times I forget all about it! Maybe once all stores finally get rid of paper ads all together this will finally happen.

  25. eyez

    Collin your picture is HILARIOUS

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      😀

  26. Trish Walden

Only one target will price match (even when I have the paper ads) Kroger’s, Randalls, CVS or Walgreens because they have a loyalty or reward card. I have read the exemptions over & over. It states in the target policy that they will price match if it is not a paid membership so a free membership should be honored?!? I have called customer service to no avail. So I only have 1 store I can shop at! Very annoying.

  27. ash8276

Heck yeah!!! I have priced matched some beauty products to Amazon.com before – saved me a total of $7, which was awesome! I find the Amazon app to be pretty handy when shopping in Target, you just hit the search item and scan the barcode and it will show you their price. It’s really hit or miss though whether the Target employees know the price matching/coupon policies, though they are getting better 🙂 I’ve had to whip out my print out a few times because I knew their policies better than them, haha.

    • Laura

Nice! thanks. downloading it now. I have found too that Target employees are supposed to use Target gadgets to look up the price match items. But half the time they don’t work. So I pull out my phone.

      • ash8276

When I did this I had about three makeup/beauty items and when through checkout as usual not mentioning price matching (typically a manager or someone has to come approve it, which can be a pain). Afterwards I went to customer service and told the guy several items were cheaper on Amazon.com. He actually pulled out his phone and scanned the items just like I did and compared them with my receipt. They he basically returned the items and then rang them up entering the new prices. Wasn’t too bad.

  28. Denise

How in the world did you get on top of those carts!? I would have loved to see the people’s faces walking/ driving by

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      😉

  29. Pam L.

    Woo hoo!!! 😄😄

  30. Christine

A Target near me said that I can’t price match an item and then proceed to use a coupon on it. I have to do one or the other, not both. I don’t think that’s right!

  31. Cindi

Yeah that good however my target staff is so horrible I don’t even think this good news matter – target customer service is horrible If I even go up and mention price match their faces turn from all smiles to mean angry ladies just takes your breath away how awful customer service has gotten

  32. Kristin

Finally! Target won’t even price match target.com normally so this is great news.

  33. Stephanie

Wonder how to price match Costco since the ounces are never the same.

  34. shannon

I found out a few days ago that starting tomorrow, when I bring in my printed store ads (Winn Dixie, PUblix, CVS or Walgreen’s) to do a price match, I can’t use a Target coupon or Cartwheel. I haven’t seen this in writing. Has anyone else heard this? They didn’t exclude a manuf coupon though.

    • Vanessa

Never been able to use target coupons or cartwheel after price matching it is in their policy. Just google target price match policy…

Manufacturer coupons: manufacturer coupons will be applied after the price match is made.
Target and Cartwheel℠ coupons: Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price.
Combining both Target, Cartwheel and manufacturer coupons: the Target and Cartwheel coupon will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price. Once the price match is made, the manufacturer coupon will be applied.

  35. Heidi

Can you price match and still use the cartwheel

    • Lily

Apparently this might be subjectively to the store or cs because i was trying to buy a iPad mini 3,when i wanna Pm and do the cartwheel,a lady at CS was telling the man who was serving us that we could use PM or jus use cartwheel.

Couldn’t argue more and didn’t want to.

Base on the PM policy ,it is not exactly clear too.”Once the price match is made, the manufacturer coupon will be applied.”,didn’t refer cartwheel.

Anyone have a clear idea of it? Any numbers or email that we could send to?

      • mel

At my store, they will apply any Store Coupons & CW first. If the price is lower than the competitor then no PM will be made. If the price is still higher, then they PM and apply the coupon(s)/CW.

  36. frances

I was at my local target recently and the >thinking of a polite word< front end manager didn't even know that the target web site has coupons…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      🙁

  37. Jaymie

I just want to know one thing, does this include Hawaii? If not, I’m boycotting target until I leave this island next month lol

  38. Gwen

I was informed by the Team Lead that Cartwheel is like a Target Coupon but you can only price match or use Cartwheel. I don’t feel like this is fair if they say you are PROMISED THE LOWEST PRICE..Then why can’t we use both? The savings range from 5% -75% or Whatever the deal might be. The beginning price before COUPONS..Whether it be cartwheel Paper coupons Target coupons..if you ain’t walking away WITH CASH IN HAND THEY SHOULD HONOR IT…my closest store is 45 mins so if I don’t have some extra reason to save I’m not going. Latley Target says PM or cartwheel..well I can usesSavings Catcher in walmart and save my gas. Or order on Amazon.

  39. Amy besselman

Does anyone know if Target honors a digital copy of a local competitor’s ad? If you can’t get the actual paper ad?
