This program is amazing! My twin boys LOVED receiving their books every month and were sad when they turned 5. My daughter is 2 and honestly looks forward to the books every month. Not every book is a “hit” with her, but most are. Some of her favorite books have come from this program. I cannot say enough positive things about how much my kids have loved and benefited from it. π
Sweet! Thanks for such awesome feedback!
This is THE best program! We used to live in Tennessee and were shocked when we moved to South Dakota and they have it. If your area doesn’t have it, talk to a local organization or library about starting it up. All it takes is a sponsor.
We get a book every month. The books are all age appropriate. Great program!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for sharing!
Not in NYC
Bummer π
It use to be 8 years ago. My son received books for about 5 months. Then it just stopped coming. I remember contacting them and was just told it was no longer available in my area. Guess they think we NYC folks don’t need to read π
I signed up my 3 year old and 2 year old, now i have a 3 month old and tried to sign him up, it says not available in our area
This is such an awesome program- my grandbaby receives books and they have all been excellent quality books/stories.
How cool! Thanks for your feedback Lauren!
says not available in my area π
Darn.
Ditto π
I signed my daughter up the week she was born, so we’ve been receiving these for a year now. The books are great quality and she loves reading her books every day!
That’s great!
Not available for me in NJ
That’s an incredible program!
Not available in my town
I thought this was only Tennessee, I didn’t know it went nation wide. Amazing!
I had it in Michigan but it isn’t available where I am at now in Florida:(
is for me and I am in Florida…
Not where I live in Florida π
Just sent to a few friends that are pregnant up to those with kids up to age 4. I love reading and love to pass it onto others.
Not in Hennepin County, MN
They really need to expand this to the East Coast π©. Haven’t been available for me in PA ever π.
It was started in Tennessee by Dolly many years ago. My 10 year old was on it from birth
I’m in PA and we were able to get it last time.
They need a someone local to start a local chapter – the parent organization will work with them but they need someone in the area already to do legwork. You could see about starting a chapter in your area. π
not in Maryland:(
Very neat! Does anyone know how this is paid for? Is Dolly Parton paying for it?
No. It’s supported by any program that wants to partner with her organization.
In my area it is supported by a large company, in the next county by the library. Just varies by area.
Yep. Every area is different. Here in our county, the public library is the primary “champion” (their term for the local affiliate)
Thank you guys for the info! π
In the state of Tennessee, it is Dolly. She founded it here
Ours is funded by the local United Way.
Sponsored by United Way in my area. No thanks.
Not available in Indianapolis. Bummer. π
We have this for our daughter and love it! I agree that not all of the books are ones that I would pick out for her, but that’s fine! It’s nice to get some variety when my 1 year old (aka mommy) reads about 20-30 books per day.
Both of my children have been in this program since birth. It is such a wonderful gift that instills a love of reading in children from an early age. My kids love getting the books in the mail every month. Thanks to Imagination Library we have fallen in love with children’s books series we might have otherwise never discovered and all for free! There is a perfect mix of classic and new stories. We have received Madeline, Blueberries for Sal, Ferdinand, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy and many many other wonderful titles. This program is A++!!
Thanks for such a great review Erika! Good to know!
Not in Meridian, ID. π
Not available in my area π
This program is fantastic and we have been receiving books for 2 years now! Such a fun surprise in the mail!
LOVE THIS PROGRAM!!! Our local Kiwanis club does it for our little town! We received a book today!
oh wow! Wish this were available in my area!
Does anyone know if it’s available in Illinois if so what city?
I’m up in Lake County and it wasn’t available.
Sponsored by united way in my area. I didn’t realize that until I got an email from United Way asking for donations, $25 supports a child getting books for the year (I’m on the UW mail list which is why I got it, not because of being in the program) so I felt so bad because my daughter is taking books away from othe children that can’t afford them. I went ahead and donated $50 to cover my daughter and another child
Really sweet of you. Touched my heart.
Not in fairfax va. π
I live in East Tennessee, and all 3 of my kiddos have been through this program! 2 of them are now over 5, but my 3 year old looks forward to getting her special book each month! It’s such an awesome program for kids!!!
When I attempted to enroll my granddaughter, I got as far as entering our zip code but could go no further. Does that mean it isn’t available in Oklahoma?
Not available for southeast Texas. π thanks anyway!
I am in Katy, west of Houston and not available in my area.
Not available in Cheyenne, WY
We get these books, my kids just love them!
Is this free
Yes, it is.
Not available in Pittsburgh π
Actually it is available in some parts of Pittsburgh; I know that doesn’t help you but other people scrolling through the comments may want to check their specific addresses.
We just received today for this month’s issue. We’ve been receiving this book for 17 months. They are all nice & thankful for D. Parton’s book foundation!
Not available in my Missouri
I was able to get this deal in PA… It’s an amazing program that we really appreciate!
We typically go the library and get out a ton of books If there every is one that they LOVE and get out again and again we buy that book as part of a birthday present, holiday etc. My husband I budget well (a lot with the help of the site!) for a family of 6 on his teacher salary and I love that this program exists for families that cannot even make it to the library to borrow books for their children, grandchildren. My girls would love to receive a book in the mail addressed to them, but the point of this program is directed at the children that do no have access otherwise and that is not our family. I will not sign up so there is a spot for a child that NEEDS this. What a great way for Dolly parton to give back in a way that is truly meaningful for her.
I felt this way at first, but after consulting with our local United Way (our area sponsor, and my dad happens to be a board member) I was advised that it is set up so every single kid in our county could get a book if requested. There is no income limitation. I decided to go ahead and sign up, but to make a donation to the organization as a thank you. I’m glad I did, we receive books that my daughter loves and that I probably never would have found otherwise.
I tried signing up in texas. it says this program is not available in my area
My 4 yr old & 1 yr old love receiving books every month. This is such an amazing thing Dolly has done! π
This is the best program! Love all the books my son gets. He turns 5 in a few months so it ends, but glad he got to receive as many as he did for free π
Not in my area in SoCal. I checked for my cousin who lives in Northern California, it’s also not available.
Anybody from North Carolina get these books?
It says it’s available in Jacksonville!
