Just in case anyone doesn’t know – this works for online school as well. My husband is doing WGU and has the student prime. We’ve become so dependent on it we will be keeping it after he graduates!

    • Kiwi

Thank you for saying this. My husband just became a student this week at WGU.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh awesome! Thanks for sharing Heather! Good to know!

  2. Lindsay

Can you add this on to a current (regular) membership?

    • John

Yes you should be able to. i believe they refund you the money you paid (prorated) and start you on the 6 months free

    • Bethany

I don’t think so. Just wait for your current membership to expire and then sign up for this deal. It’s been around for at least 3 years now. (I am in my 4th and final year of student prime and I got 6 free months when I first signed up over 3 years ago.)

    • Candace

Yes. If you have already paid for a full year of a subscription, you can go in and add your .edu email address and then they will refund you half of the cost.

  3. SherryB

Semi-bummer! I got my daughter to switch her prime account hoping she could get some referral money but…. “Unfortunately, at this time we can’t offer Student referral credits to residents of Louisiana.” But on the bright side – Amazon is going to refund some of her $99 annual membership fee AND she will get to upgrade for only $49/year as long as she’s a student. 😉

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh good! Glad she can score the savings! 😉

  4. Shawn

Great deal! I love Amazon! Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome!

  5. Stephanie Jolley

What if you’re an educator with an .edu e-mail?

    • Lina

The only requirement is a .edu email to verify

  6. Kristie

I’m just getting the 30day option. Do I need to create a new account?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hmm, did you go through the link above and click on “start your 6 month trial”?

  7. Laura

If I already have Amazon prime but switching to the student version, so I need to call them? I don’t want to be double charged. Anyone know? It’s asking if i want to be a paid member- when I already am?

  8. Danny Hayden

I have a .edu email along with my regular email . I am a Adjunct at a Junior College would I qualify ?

    • Sandra Oravetz

That’s my question, as well. I am also an adjunct – online prof.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yes. 🙂

    • Donna J. Ruble

As an adjunct how do we get around the required info of what year and major?

    • Bridget

To register you have to have and .EDU email address. Technically this is only for students. You will eventually have to verify you are a student enrolled in course. I just had to send in my verification. This is directly from Amazon:
      Conditions
To sign up for and use Prime Student, you must (1) have an Amazon.com account, (2) be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico, (3) be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request and (4) have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu. We may accept or refuse membership in our sole discretion. We may ask you to furnish documentation supporting your eligibility. If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Prime Student membership. The Prime Student membership is for personal use only and may not be used to purchase products or services for the purpose of resale. You may not transfer or assign your Amazon Student membership or the benefits associated with a Prime Student membership. You may not use your student e-mail address for more than one Prime Student membership. You may not enroll in Prime Student more than once.

  9. Debbie

Can 2 people use the same edu address to take advantage of the student prime discount

  10. Morgan Hoops

I am an online college student but don’t have EDU emails, we use our personal or everything goes through our online student portal. Is there amy way I can do this?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

It appears that you have to have an .edu address. 🙁

      • acp5

Call customer service. I worked for them for a short time and some students did not have a .edu email and just had to send in so much proof of student status. I’m sorry I don’t remember what they required. It’s been a year ago so I don’t know if they’ve changed the rules again, but it wouldn’t hurt to call.

    • Jessica

I do not have an edu email either and use my primary email for my school as well. I have had amazon student prime glint on 6 months. Just call them to set up your account give them the name of your college and they will verify info. Worked for me 😉 Oh BTW they never asked me to send in any proof.

  11. Stormy

Why do I have to add a credit card?

    • Mle98

It will charge you after the 6 months is up, unless you cancel before the end of that free period.

  12. Michele Gordon

I have worked at a school for 27 years but don’t use their email address except at work. Why didn’t I get my Prime for free?

  13. Carrie

Does anyone know if teachers get a discount on their Amazon Prime membership?

  14. tash

I signed up way back in 2007 my first trip thru school. Wonder if I can get the discounted price now in my masters with my email ? Same college though :/

  15. Donna

We did this for my son a week ago &we can not get the music to stream for free

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi there! It offers Unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Video. Hope this helps!

  16. ohiosarah

It is only free for 6 months – during the 6 months you cannot get the streaming, music, books, etc – the only thing you get with the free is the prime shipping. If you want it for the $49 you’ll also have to have something that proves you are currently enrolled as a student, not just an .edu email.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This trial will give you free 2-Day shipping on millions of items, unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Video, free Kindle books to borrow, free unlimited photo storage and exclusive offers and discounts. Hope that helps!

      • ohiosarah

Hi, I know what it is, I’ve been a Prime member for a couple of years however the free trial of Student Prime does NOT give the video, streaming, music, etc. I’ve spoken to an Amazon rep several times and all it does is give the free two day shipping. If you want music, streaming, and all the other stuff you’ll have to paid the discounted student price or pay the full price for Prime.

  17. Stephanie

FYI the only part that is free for 6 months is the shipping and such. The streaming you have to subscribe to, at least that was the error I got when I was on my free trial.

It is still nice if you order a lot but if you want it for the streaming you need to sub.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi Stephanie! The trial offers free 2-Day shipping on millions of items, unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Video, free Kindle books to borrow, free unlimited photo storage and exclusive offers and discounts. 🙂

  18. dyrgchem

Would this apply to teachers as well?

  19. Paula

Teachers should fall under this too. Do you know if we do?

  20. Erica

Why can’t it also be free for educators?

  21. beach

Adjuncts cannot get it. I called and talked to Amazon about it.

  22. Laurie

I am pretty sure it doesn’t matter what or who you are (no offense!) you just have to use your .EDU account to sign up. And you WILL have to be able to verify it by replying to a link they send you at at .edu email address. Just FYI! I’m a teacher too but our school doesn’t use .edu. so I’m not eligible. Hope this helps!

  23. Robin

Ok, The Facebook notice says free to college students OR anyone with an edu email address but when you follow the link it is only for college students? What the heck? Who writes these ads?

  24. Virginia "dolly" Sinor

How about free shipping for senior! I am 83 and only buy from amazon online but would like to buy a lot more but can’t afford the shipping.

  25. Carolyn Townsend

I work for a college and have an .edu email, can I get the deal?

  26. Bridgette sullivan

What about an educator with a @rpsb.us email address?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

They are requiring an edu address. 🙁

  27. Kris Russell

My regular prime is up in November, but I do have a .edu email. Can they just add the six months to my account or do I need to switch everything? I’d hate to lose my whole history as I use that to repurchase favorite things. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hmm, maybe try giving them a call.

  28. Andrea

I am clicking the link above but it is only offering 30 days free 🙁

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How odd as I am still finding the offer to be for 6 months. Are you able to try again in a different browser? If that is still not working, maybe contact Amazon for additional help.

  29. Roopa

Yes, this is a great support. My wife juggles between day job and evening schools . Awesome. You can get 10$ credit as well. FREE Two-Day Shipping, access to thousands of movies and TV shows, & more! https://a.co/hljVrh6
