Nielsen Homescan: Recruiting Members Again!
I posted about the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel previously, but wanted to mention it again for any new readers (or old readers that didn’t qualify previously).
The Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel focuses on measuring consumer attitudes and behavior. As a panel member, Homescan will provide you with a hand-held scanner. Every time you or members of your household shop, youll use the scanner to scan the barcodes on all of your purchases. Then, once a week, you’ll send them your purchase information. As a reward for doing so, youll earn gift points that are redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and more!
If you’re interested in becoming part of the Consumer Panel, then you’ll want to go on over here to sign up. Please be aware that not all areas need Panel Members at this time. If you’re already a Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel Member, I’d love to hear your thoughts about this program. How has it worked for you so far?
I used to be a member of Homescan. But it took so long to enter all my info from my weekly trip to the grocery store.
I have been a member for several years and really like it. I feel it’s simple and I have redeemed my points for a electric weedeater and a blender. I’m now saving my points for a really big purchase.
I just started doing it (I got accepted when you posted about it previously). So far I like it because most of the stores that I go to are already in their system, so I don’t have to enter any prices. I think it’s simple. All I have to do is scan each item and then put them away.
In my opinion, it’s worth it for the rewards you can get!
signed up…got put on the waitlist..hopefully it will not take too long
Not looking for anyone in my area 🙁
I received my scanner a couple weeks ago and read all of the instructions on what was required. WOOOF!!!!! I returned it back to them the very next day.
They don’t tell you that you pretty much have to set up all the stores in your area, have to enter store, price, sale price, coupon value, coupon source, other shoppers with you, etc, etc on each purchase. Why don’t they give that information up front instead of making you think all you have to do is scan the UPC code of each item you purchase and then transmit that in?
Good golly, I use coupons on everything I buy and I am certainly not going to take hours and hours to enter all that info for a few measly points a week. It would have taken me a year at least just to get something decent. They don’t give you points based on the amount of work you put into it, just by the week.
I think this program works for some and not for others. I feel it depends on how you shop. I do little shopping trips throughout the week to maximize my savings. I shop all the sales and use coupons.
Each time I go to the store I usually only purchase a few things, so using the scanner only takes me a short amount of time. I don’t think it’s a waste of time at all and I’ve earned quite a few great rewards.
If you stick with it you’ll probably end up really thinking it’s worth it.
I have been a member for about a month and I only suggest it if you don’t have anything better to do with your time. It doesn’t take toooo long to input but long enough and the prizes=points ratio is horrible. It will take me 3 years to get an iPhone!
do you have to enter every coupon you use? Beth
I’ve been doing it for a year and want to send it back (just haven’t had a chance to look for the box, etc.!) It is so much work and after all this time I don’t even have enough for a doll! It’s incredibly time consuming.
I signed up about two months ago and am still on the waitlist. Sigh…
I also want to throw in my 2 cents. I was so excited to get everything and then I read the directions. Lots to do! Like others have posted here. You have to, or might have to: enter the price, store, what c.c. you used, if you used a coupon….lots of information. I shop, sometimes, daily. Target runs, out to Walgreens, stopping by CVS. I agree that if you have a lot of time, you should do this. However, I don’t think it would have worked for me. I sent it back in the box that it came in.
Thanks for listening – Stormy in TX
I just got a phone call from them yesterday night saying I was accepted & I’ll get an e-mail when it’s in the mail! Now I read all of this YIKES hopefully it won’t be bad for me? We will see!
