Wow! It looks like Dollar General has all of their winter gloves, hats, scarves, and sweats on clearance for 90% off! The items pictured above are priced from $0.30 to $0.50! Now that’s definitely a stock up price! Grab items for next year and stash them away. This I how I save a considerable amount of money every year–  by purchasing items for seasons to come when the price is right… AND these prices are definitely right! 🙂

This is great. gonna check my local Dollar general today… I will get some for The adopt a families my work sponsors over the winter too. They always ask for winter stuff. Also Remember Local soup kitchens are always in need of these things. They will set them out for the patrons.

A couple years ago, one of the Dollar Generals in my town was closing (no need for 2 in a little town). Their winter stuff had already been 50% off as a sale and then an extra 80% off because of closing. My mother-in-law and I bought close to 300 pairs of gloves and 200 toboggans and donated them to the homeless shelter in our towns. Together we only spent about $30 or so. The people running the shelter looked surprised when we brought in bag after bag of winter stuff and couldn’t believe how cheap it was.

LoL, that’s what I do too. I buy all winter gloves and mittens in spring, for the next year, and keep a closet full, that way when my kids leave them on the bus, or on the playground, or outside somewhere, then we have backups, that we don’t have to pay full price for throughout the winter, over and over and over. My hubby calls it spending money on things we don’t need yet! I call it, spending little on something we will have to pay full price for in 6 months, LoL. Thanks for the heads up, I was waiting for this sale.

I will check out at my store and see if they start 90% off to snag a few for my son, thanks!

It is great to see so many stocking up on these items for the homeless/women’s shelters. Really makes me feel that hope in strangers is not lost! Collin, your readers are some of the most giving I know! 🙂

I searched every square inch of walmart and target yesterday looking for these and neither had any! My 15 year old son left yesterday evening for Colorado for a Choir competition(miss him so much!), I didn’t even think about Dollar General…..He said “Mom, I’ll just buy one in Colorado”. Great, he’ll probably pay twenty bucks for one now……did I mention, I miss him already :0(

I have just recently come across this blog and would like to say a few things. First, I love this site and check it several times a days for good deals. I am also a military wife and know the hardships that this life can sometimes bring. I also love that you are not a snob and shop and post deals from the dollar stores. So many people overlook these as great resources! Keep up the good work and thanks so much for making it easier for us to save so much!

I just left my dollar general and there was only 2 hats on a table that sd 50% off. Maybe I should have scanned them.

Also, Collin I wanted to tell you maybe this could help some of your readers that my dollar General had a sign on the door that sd, “All pre packaged easter baskets will be excepted with ebt.”

Just thought I would share!!! Have a good day!

I just wanted to verify…what is “ebt”?

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

EBT its the debit card for food stamps

    • Stephanie

do they mean “accepted” or taken “exeption to”? There’s a big difference! LOL

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Walmart in Batavia IL had lots of winter stuff on clearance yesterday.

just went to dollar general and got some hats/mittens for 90% off. They also had shovels (kid and adult sized) as well as sleds marked down 70%. My kids both got sleds and hats, and we grabbed a bunch of extra hats/mittens for the homeless shelter.

I found this deal earlier this week. Our local Dollar General was also fortunate enough to have their Jersey Brand Sweatshirts and zip up jackets for 80% off too. I loaded up on youth sweatshirts for my son to play in on those cool summer nights, and at less than a $1.50 a piece, I don’t have to worry about him staining them when he’s playing so hard. Gotta love Dollar General!

While we’re on the subject of homesless shelters….. There are many homeless people in my town who we see walking up and down main intersections collecting money. Now, instead of giving them money, I have little personal care bags made up and stashed in my car- both for men and women. They consist of a razor, shaving cream/gel, toothbrush, toothpaste, tampons, shampoo, soap, deoderant and makeup- and whatever else I get and want to throw in. All of these things are free for me or pennies at the most. I could just put it all in a box and donate it to the shelter, but this way I can give something to a homeless person face to face.

Krista, great post. We do this too. I pack “snack bags” full of granola bars, juice boxes, nuts and other non perishable items. Then I put the snack bag under my car seat and wait until we see someone homeless on the intersection. My daughter loves this

I also like to stock up on these kinds of items for my family and for charities. This winter I was involved in a winter wear drive and we received over 200 coats and many mitten, hats, boots, etc. use and new from our community. They were all given to the school and families in need could stop and get a coat for the entire family. They only had 3 coats left after the two day open house. Wow. It’s sad but makes me feel good that buying items like these for such a low price can mean the world to someone who has little or nothing!!!

Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait to get to my local Dollar General and check it out.
