Words are powerful.

As a blogger, I’ve learned first hand the power of words. I am very aware that the words I choose when writing a post will ultimately form an impression, create a reaction, and/or develop an emotion from you, my reader. I bring this up because it is essential to me that Hip2Save be a place that you feel welcome, informed and comfortable. While the freedom to express your views and opinions is important, it is just as important, that the Hip2Save environment remain a positive and supportive one.

The comments section of my posts, at times, can get a little heated. Although, there is always room for debate, we need to be sure the the words that are chosen during these debates be helpful rather than hurtful. I now have an extra set of eyes helping to monitor this area of the blog in hopes of minimizing the overly negative (or just plain mean) comments that sometimes are made. I’m asking you to help in this effort by keeping an upbeat attitude that is encouraging rather than discouraging. To me, as a whole, Hip2Save has become an amazing community of really special, uplifting people and I thank you for that. In the spirit of this You In Bloom topic, “The Power of Words”, I have included one of my favorite inspirational quotes.

I would like to dedicate today’s comments section to favorite quotes, poems, and riddles that are POSITIVE and encouraging. Thanks in advance for sharing your words and spreading good vibes! Hip Hip Hooray! 😀

“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”

-George Elliot

    Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

    May we discover through pain and torment,
    the strength to live with grace and humor.
    May we discover through doubt and anguish,
    the strength to live with dignity and holiness.
    May we discover through suffering and fear,
    the strength to move toward healing.
    May it come to pass that we be restored to health and to vigor.
    May Life grant us wellness of body, spirit, and mind.
    And if this cannot be so, may we find in this transformation and passage
    moments of meaning, opportunities for love
    and the deep and gracious calm that comes
    when we allow ourselves to move on.
    -Rabbi Rami M. Shapiro

    “Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
    “Begin each day with a grateful heart.”
    “Life is a journey, not a destination.”

    Well spoken and so true! I am learning to be very careful in what I say knowing that once spoken, words become a force in motion and that something will indeed happen and to undo or stop the force is very hard! I am also learning that if something needs to be done if I start speaking about my intents that in itself sometimes provides the energy to get things moving. It is a discipline to make yourself speak out loud about things you know or feel you need to do!

    If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got….

    People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
    Forgive them anyway.
    If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
    Be kind anyway.
    If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
    Succeed anyway.
    If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
    Be honest and frank anyway.
    What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
    Build anyway.
    If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
    Be happy anyway.
    The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
    Do good anyway.
    Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
    Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.
    You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
    It was never between you and them anyway.

    What a beautiful visual picture that is Collin! I’d love to have this posted in our home office to remind the kids that our words can hug or harm. Who is the artist & does it have a name? One of my fav books is ‘The Four Love Languages.’ One of the four is “words of affirmation.” It’s a great, enlightening book to help anyone love more in their friendships, marriages, and there’s even a Four Love Languages of kids, to help us love more on our precious kids God’s given us 🙂

    I managed to make solid laundry soap, and one of my friends told me this, “Liz, your laundry soap was not a failure. Now, you just know what NOT to do to make laundry soap!”

    “Thee lift me and I’ll lift thee and we’ll ascend together.”

    Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying “I will try again tomorrow.”

    “Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass…it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
    -Vivian Greene

    This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever: in its place is something that you have left behind…let it be something good.

    “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.”
    -Theodore Roosevelt

    “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through the experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired and success achieved.”
    -Helen Keller

    Look up the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. It has some powerful word about how to live and look at life.

    Thank you so much for this post, Collin. We should be here to help each other out, not tear each other down and criticize each other. As my dad always used to say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.”

    “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” Emerson. I love this quote because I want my children to feel strong and brave enough to be a leader and not always a follower.

    “We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are.” Marjorie Pay Hinckley.

    “Think about your particular assignment at this time in your life. It may be to get an education, it may be to rear children, it may be to be a grandparent, it may be to care for an relieve the suffering of someone you love, it may be to do a job in the most excellent way possible, it may be to support someone who has a difficult assignment of their own. Our assignments are varied and they change from time to time. Don’t take them lightly. Give them your full heart and energy. Do them with enthusiasm. Do whatever you have to do this week with your whole heart and soul. To do less than this will leave you with an empty feeling.” Marjorie Pay Hinckley

    ~ Live each day to it’s fullest, you never know when it could be your last ~
    ~ Never go to bed upset ~ (although I don’t think my husband appreciates this one as much as I do….it has made for a few late nights 😉

    I think that overall though, never saying something you will regret later, because you might not get a ‘later’….and NEVER waiting to say you’re sorry because you might never get the chance.
