You In Bloom ~ The Power of Words
Words are powerful.
As a blogger, I’ve learned first hand the power of words. I am very aware that the words I choose when writing a post will ultimately form an impression, create a reaction, and/or develop an emotion from you, my reader. I bring this up because it is essential to me that Hip2Save be a place that you feel welcome, informed and comfortable. While the freedom to express your views and opinions is important, it is just as important, that the Hip2Save environment remain a positive and supportive one.
The comments section of my posts, at times, can get a little heated. Although, there is always room for debate, we need to be sure the the words that are chosen during these debates be helpful rather than hurtful. I now have an extra set of eyes helping to monitor this area of the blog in hopes of minimizing the overly negative (or just plain mean) comments that sometimes are made. I’m asking you to help in this effort by keeping an upbeat attitude that is encouraging rather than discouraging. To me, as a whole, Hip2Save has become an amazing community of really special, uplifting people and I thank you for that. In the spirit of this You In Bloom topic, “The Power of Words”, I have included one of my favorite inspirational quotes.
I would like to dedicate today’s comments section to favorite quotes, poems, and riddles that are POSITIVE and encouraging. Thanks in advance for sharing your words and spreading good vibes! Hip Hip Hooray! 😀
“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”
-George Elliot
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” -Dr. Suess
My mom use to tell me: “You can do anything you set your mind to do.”
Whenever I have a down day, I think of the line from the musical Annie, “the sun will come up tomorrow”. I will allow myself to be a little down today, but tomorrow will be a better day.
“One gets a bad habit of being unhappy.” – George Eliot
keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side; keep on the sunny side of life, it will help us everday , it will brighten all the way, if we keep on the sunny side of life! – a song i love
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mohandas Gandhi
I’m sorry… this made me giggle. It’s Mahatma Ghandi. 🙂
Mohandas was his first name. 🙂
It’s funny whoever said sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me… I’m sorry to be negative but I think he was very wrong. Words can be so powerful and I think you learn that throughout your life. Positive words are always great to hear. When I was young my mom would make us say 3 positive things for each negative comment we made. It was a good practice.
That is a good idea….3 positive things…….
That saying came from a much simpler time in the world, long before strangers could hide behind a monitor and say absolutely vicious things to another. We have all seen the tragic outcomes of this a number of times over the past few years. There is truth in the saying, but today it is not as easy to go with it.
I agree! Sometimes words can hurt worse than physical pain!
I’m kind of a quote freak… So here are a few of my absolute favorites:
“The entire population of the universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others.”
-John Andrew Holmes
“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
-Marilyn Monroe
“We live in a crazy world, and if you want to get through it with your body and soul even a little bit intact, you might as well be crazy yourself. It couldn’t hurt. And it might just help.”
“The most important thing in life is to stop saying “I wish” and start saying “I will”. Consider nothing impossible, and then treat possibilities as probabilities. -My Starbucks Cup 🙂
“Be whoever you want to be. Change..stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. Make the best or worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
“Is life not a thousand times too short for us to bore ourselves?”
-Friedrich Nietzsche
“So fail. Be bad at things. Be afraid. Be vulnerable. Go out on a limb or two or twelve. You will fall, and it will hurt. But the farther you fall, the higher you will rise. Failure is a gift – welcome it. There are people who spend their whole lives wondering how they became the people they became, how certain chances passed them by, why they didn’t take the roads less traveled. Those people aren’t you.”
Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
I love poems. Here’s one you might relate to:
Coupons
The cashier leans forward
to examine the expiration date.
Here’s my mother’s squinting face
in silent concentration and memory,
adding up my father’s paychecks,
subtracting the bills,
scissors and newspaper close by,
my mother’s thrifty face
as hard and bright as Formica.

I have that quote stenciled on my wall!

I love this:
Life is tough, but I’m tougher.
I don’t know who originally said this but I have found it to be true so many times: “Be kind to everyone for no matter what you’re going through they are probably going through something much worse.”
“There’s only one beautiful child in this world, and every Mother has (him/her).” ~ Chinese Proverb
Oh my gosh, that is so true if you think of it……once I became a mother everything changed, especially my perspective.
I saw that quote as a sticker for scrapbooking and instantly fell in love with it! I agree – once you become a mom, you become biased! LOL. : D

I have a friend who always says “Livin’ the dream”… anytime you ask him how he is doing…

Hey Collin, I have a question~ what was your major in college? I’ve always figured it was something like finance or accounting but due to this post I’m thinking it may have been English?
In a time when so many are hurried and sometimes short-tempered, it’s important for all of us to remind ourselves that we never know what another person is experiencing at the time…it may be sick children or family members, loss of job, divorce, etc. It only takes just a minute to always give someone a compliment and be slow to anger…Life is too short….Thanks for the site — you do an awesome job!
People pay for what they do and still more for what they allow themselves to become and they pay for it simply by the lives they lead. ~James Baldwin
As a teenager and later into married life a dear friend’s mother used to always help us to keep a cool head by reminding us to “take it from whence it came….”
Some people are always full of drama, negativity, etc and when they say something that ruffles my feathers I can hear my friend’s mom reminding me to “take it from whence it came”.
“The pen is mightier than the sword” Edward Bulwer-Lyton
I don’t know who the quote is originally from (It’s a title of book) but my Dad always says… “Don’t sweat the small stuff…and its ALL small stuff!)
And my Granny always would say when things got tough…”This, too, shall pass!”
Okay, here are a few more…

You get what you get and you don’t get upset. : )
Nah, my daughter likes the former. You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!
“They might not need me, but they might.
I’ll let my head be just in sight.
A smile as small as mine might be
Precisely their necessity.”
-Emily Dickinson
Opinions are like noses, everyone’s got one, and everyone’s is different, so try not to take yourself too seriously!!
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
But today is a gift. That’s why it’s called “the present”.
Loved this one, it’s from “Kung Fu Panda” and my little boys watch it a lot. So true!!
It’s not all about marrying the right guy, it’s about being the right wife.
Whenever I am going through a rough time I always tell myself “This to shall Pass”.

“You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have, The Facts of LIfe”.
There will always be good, and there will always be bad, but how we react to them tells a lot about us.
