Are We Making a Difference?!
Guess where this picture was taken?! Well, if you’re thinkin’ outside Walmart, you’re correct!
Reader, Julie, emailed with this awesome picture and had this to say:
“I walked into Walmart yesterday and they had a signs on their landscape stating “We’ll match any ad” and “We will honor any coupon” ! Plus, once I got inside they had a huge sign (almost as tall as me and I’m 5′7) that said the same thing. I think the letters worked!!! Hip2Saver’s unite!!”
I also received this email from reader, Christie:
“I think your Walmart emails made a difference. Yesterday I went to walmart to get some groceries and to my surprise I saw a few huge signs inside the store that said: We price match any competitor Prices and Coupons! *some restrictions apply – The signs were so big and a few placed around the store you couldn’t miss them! Plus, on the checkout lane numbers that light up when a cashier is open were signs that said: “coupon specialist” in English and Spanish!”
What do you all think?! Do you think the emails we sent are starting to make a difference?
Awesome!!!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh I just got butterflies… that is awesome! I need to make a trip to Walmart to see if they have those signs locally! 😀
That is awesome!!! Way to go Colin and everyone else that sent letters.
That is SO awesome! Way to go Hip2Save! Great work Collin!
Next can we do the same with Target? Educated cashiers at Target would make my life so much simpler!
OMG I so agree, my Target is horrible. I have to fight them to get them to take one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for one item. I’m about ready to give up shopping there altogether.
I agree, too.I have no Walmart troubles here. They are so great about coupons. I guess I have no Target problems, either, because I”m not going there anymore. Ugh.
I am right with you there! Horrible to shop at Target with coupons!!!
That is so strange, because target is my FAVORITE place to coupon. The cashiers there are SO nice and they accept so many coupons. I used a the coupon for the blue-ray Alice in Wonderland DVD on the regular DVD and they accepted it! I got it for $6.99!!
My Target is WONDERFUL! I love it there, they’ve never once given me a problem with coupons. I hear all the horror stories on here in the comments, but it just makes me so much more thankful that my Target is so coupon friendly. I get the best deals there!
Way to go!!!!! That is so awesome 🙂
Awesome! Now, if we could just get Walgreen’s to set an official written coupon policy….I’d be ecstatic!
I agree!!! Walgreens is TERRIBLE here!!!
I agree. I voted for Wags!! Then again, I avoid Wally World.
I voted for Wags, too.
awesome awesome awesome!!! so happy!!!
AWESOME!!! I can’t wait to check my local Walmart to see if they are doing the same thing!
Man, that’s great! I plan to see if my local walmart’s are doing this! Kudos to Hip2Save and follow readers! Yay!!!!
Wow now I actually want to go to my Walmart. I never want to go there!
Ok, seriously….that is AMAZING! Good job, Collin! WOO HOO!! I always cringe when I have to goto Walmart because of how they treat couponers — maybe now it will start to be better!
Woot! I sent an email yesterday, after another nightmare at checkout. I believe Collin and hip2save readers were instrumental in making a positive difference. Coupon specialist???
They may be going a bit far on that one…unless of course the cashiers are hip2savers!!!
I agree with Jennifer – we need to bombard Target next with our letters!
My Target has never once questioned a coupon, and if I purchase something that I know I have a coupon for at home, I just bring it back on my next trip, and they give me the value of the coupon, no questions asked. I always feel like I need to defend Target when people write negative comments about them, but obviously no two Targets are exactly the same. I’m just grateful for mine.
I agree my Target is great. They are always willing to accept coupons and allow stacking per thier policy. The few times I have run into a checker that did not know the policy they were always polite and the manager has always confirmed the policy. I love shopping at Target with coupons.
I have 2 Targets nearby and they are both awful about coupons. There is one cashier that I refuse to check out with for sure! If a coupon beeps she makes stuff up as to why she can’t take it. She yells at me things like..”you didn’t buy the right thing” and then I show her the item and she says “you have to buy 2” with out reading the coupon which is clearly for 1 item. It is almost comical really except that it is so frustrating. I have even started shopping at the one Target more often even though their prices are usually a few cents higher on stuff than the other store because they refuse to adjust prices downward. So if I have a $1 off coupon and the item is 99 cents at one target and $1.07 at the other I have to pay the 7 cents because I can’t get either store to adjust the coupon! And they make me feel so embarrased and like I am a criminal for using coupons. Wish I had a Target nearby where the cashiers were educated on the coupon policy.
Yay!!! This is awesome!!!!!!!
Awesome!!! Way to go Hip2Saver’s 🙂
We ought to see if we can get Walmart to double coupons too. I never go there—usually get better deals at my grocery stores which do double.
So excited!!! Good job everyone. Great idea Collin!!!
amazing! I think the letters did the job!
at my walmart, each register now has all of the weekly local ads from grocery stores hanging from their registers so that we can instantly price match and not have to bring in the ad. I was surprised- this was a new thing for my walmart.
That’s great to hear! I had a problem one time about not having the ad with me to price match. I asked some cashiers that were standing around about them having the local ads and they told me I needed to have the ad with me in order to price match. I ended up getting in an argument because I use to work at a WalMart located in TX and they trained us to know the prices in the ads of the local stores in case someone didn’t have an ad with them. Plus there was a commercial around Christmas time that clearly stated you didn’t need to have the ad with you to price match at WalMart. In the end the CSM said it was ok for me not to have an ad with me in order to price match.
WAHOO!
awesome!!
Wow! I feel a walmart triip coming on!! 🙂
Woot! I am glad its seeming to work! I might go take a run over to walmart 🙂
AWESOME!!!!!
Yeah! I am so excited to try out Walmart again! Thanks to all for their comments – great idea Collin!
This is awesome! I agree with Jennifer & the others – can Target be next?
**LIKE!!!!** 😀
WOW! I hate going to walmart, but now i’m very curious. hope all walmarts are going to be the same. Way to go!
I am working on putting together a Target letter… stay tuned! 😉
YAY! That would be AWESOME!
Rite aid and WALGREENS would be fantastic, too.
I think Rite Aid already does a fantastic job, but I’d agree on Walgreens. Coupon policy at Wags is usually different at each store! I’m so glad I finally found a Wags cashier that is coupon friendly. I avoid all other Wags stores if possible!
Can you possibly address the issue of using a $ off coupon with a BOGO coupon for the item you are paying for? I seriously get hassled every time I have tried, in fact they act like I have no idea how couponing works and I feel like I know more than the average person. It is something I see people bringing up all the time in comments. Thank you so so very much!!!
I agree, my Target will NOT let me use a coupon with a BOGO coupon. I have tried explaining that I am using the coupon for the item that I am paying for, but they are adamant that you can not use two coupons!! I have no problems at WAGS or CVS doing this.
Agree!!
I used to shop at Target ALLTHE TIME but have found myself going there less and less. They are not consistent about which coupons they will accept and it’s such a turn off! Never know what’s going to happen at the register………
I am beyond thrilled that you are in the process of drafting a letter to Target!! And a huge THANK YOU for you work on the Wal-Mart issue….you are amazing!!!!!
besides my experience today, target has always been great. BUT they do need to figure out how to accept both q’s as they are supose to accept store and manufacturer coupon. even if it beeps or declines they need to honor it.
Thank you so much Collin! You are the best! There is power in numbers!!!! Watch out Target…here we come! 🙂 Time to educate those cashiers!
That is so great. I used to absolutely LOVE Target and now, any time I am working a deal, or have good coupons, I get a pit in my stomach because I know there is going to be a problem, like with the Olay gift cards. And I was right.
COLLIN FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha ha! Wouldn’t that be awesome?
🙂 Great idea! lol
Can you imagine the dent Collin could make in our National Debt! LOL! I’d vote for Collin! 🙂
These signs made me laugh!! Hopefully this is something that’s happening all over the country. I’ll have to check out my walmart when I go tonight! Great job Collin!!!
That’s so empowering! We definitely shouldn’t stop there. Let’s go down the list of stores!
Way To Go HIP2SAVERS!!!
I think this is awesome, but I live in Bentonville AR, home of Walmart and they’re not doing it here. It’s shareholders week too. They still give me the fits about my coupons. That’s last week, so we’ll see next time I go to the big WM.
Nothing in Idaho Falls ID yet… hopefully soon.. had another grand experience in the check out lane today- it turned out ok but man… seriously I hope my letter reaches them 🙂 FYI for those around that have Smiths and Fred Meyer — GREAT DEAL– fred meyer has manufacturer coupons for $4/1 coppertone sunscreen and smiths has them on for $5 this week which makes them only $1! I price matched and used my coupons at walmart today! SCORE!
Where are the $4 Fred Meyer coupons located?
They were yellow MQs on little rings hanging in front of all of the sunscreens!
Oh, ok. I know what you’re talking about. What is the sister store to Smiths in Wa State if there is one?
I really do think our emails made a difference. Now let’s just do the same for target, walgreens, and rite aid!
What do they mean they take “any coupon”? Does walmart take target coupons? I heard they take “competitor coupons” but I don’t know what they mean by that.
OMG. If they take Walgreens register rewards I’m going to die of happiness.
That would be awesome!!! I am trying to figure out what to buy with a $10.00 cat at Walgreens. Sounds silly, but I usually only buy little things!!
I have emailed corporate about this before and they sent me an email saying that they take other store coupons that are for an exact item. They buck every time, but when I pull out the email, they don’t have much choice.
WOW! I thought it was a joke, until I’ve read it all….. how cool is that it looks like coupon ladies have HUGE power!!!!!
LOVE IT!!! congrats!!! Well done girls!!!!!!!!!!
Way to go Collin, and all her hipsters. There is definitely power in numbers, this proves it. I wonder if it’s ALL Walmarts?
I would love to see Walgreens change their RRs from 2 weeks to 1 month. I hate that we only have 2 weeks to use the RRs…they lost me as a customer, which is sad because I knew almost everyone by name, even the manager. I used to feel like Norm from Cheers…when I would go in the store, I was usually greeted by my name.
I agree with you on the RR. RR are only a good deal if you can turn around and use it on another good deal. To just buy something at Walgreens to use up an expiring RR is a waste of money, as they are so rediculously high-priced. I can’t believe there is such a huge slice of America that supports this store and their exhorbitantly priced merchandise. The stores in my area are always busy, and there not people using coupons. If we are in such hard times, why are people shopping at Walgreens?
Yes, i agree.
I used RR yesterday and spent about $1.88 OOP and got back $2.50 RR. This week I have gotten hundreds of dollars in merchandise just by rolling RR’s from one promo to another.
Anyway, the lady in front of me bought several items~hair products, Frappucino and paid full price for all of it! It wasn’t on sale and she had no coupons! The frappucino alone was $2.39!
But, it’s none of my business if people do that. In fact, it probably helps keep coupons and deals out there because most people do not take advantage of them.
Although I was at Target today and all the Olay toner was gone! It was the only product cleaned out. Seriously, I can’t use a bottle in a year. It just made me laugh.
I agree about the register rewards. I actually stop shopping at Walgreens from November through March because we have such bad winters here, and I’m always nervous that the weather will prevent me from getting to Walgreens before my register rewards expire!
Now I want to go check ours..
Sweet- I have to check my local stores to see if anything has shown up. Maybe Collin will be approached by the media if this is a Hip2Save doing…….
That’s pretty awesome. I wonder if my Wal-Mart will have any signs? I did go to WM last night and tried to use two coupons. Surprisingly my newspaper-clipped coupon would not ring up and the poor girl tried over and over and over to get it to work before she got a CSM. The CSM just told her, “If you ever get a coupon that won’t ring up, just type in the amount and hit this ‘Vendor Coupon’ button right here.” Most pleasant couponing experience I’ve had there – ever. The last time I had someone who couldn’t give my coupon to scan, she shoved it back at me with a self-righteous smile and said, “We don’t have to take any of these that don’t scan.” And I said, “I don’t have to buy any of this stuff then, either. Thanks for your help.”
Hopefully we’ve helped put some wheels of change in motion!
My Wal-Mart already has a Coupon Specialist, his name is Jason! The man knows his stuff, which is why I try to shop there only when he is working
That is AWESOME!! Way to go Collin and all of your loyal Hip2Savers!!!!!
Wow, I can’t wait to check out my Walmart!
I wish they would honor CVS prices at my Walmart. I was told that since CVS ads state you must have a CVS card to get the sale price, they do not have to honor. So…I HATE to go to WALMART! I’d consider if they’d reconsider!
This is AWESOME!!! I would love it if they would start doubling coupons! However, the ROLLBACK propaganda is going to confuse people because certain items are lower however, $1.56 for their name brand cream cheese is a rip off! I think it sad that people fall for this! YAY Colin and Hip2Save!
Yay! I went to walmart today, but didn’t see any signs. Hopefully soon! Can we please do Walgreens and Target next…
I have been a true blue Walmart shopper for nearly 40 years. When I started couponing with Hip2Save last November, I have switched to Target almost solely. I do stop very occasionally for 8th Continent soy milk, which my Target does not carry, and a few other items, and occasionally at Aldi for a few specific items. Target’s great coupon deals have totally changed my shopping allegiance. Walmart was smart to rise to the occasion. Maybe they will start having $5 gift card rewards etc (if they want to win me back).
walmart does do gift card deals. They are hidden in the aisles… Not in ad. However Target does them more frequently.
Thanks, I had no idea they did gift cards.
