are you getting married? i am not engaged yet, but we’ve started planning. i was wondering if anyone had ideas on how to do wedding cheap…like Really cheap.i told my BF we could do even the food ourselves. shoot, we get so many free salad dressings i could dump them all in a nice container and nobody would ever know…lol. ideas anyone?

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

My husband and Mines wedding probably cost no more than a $1000 because we wanted “cheap” as well but still totally nice!…It was at a park by a huge river (that happened to be free to rent) under a large gazebo. I wanted tropical colors, so my bridesmaids, my two sisters, bought these cute sun type dresses with a halter top from JC Penneys..Super cute and cheap (and different). We bought rose petals the day of (cheap). Those tall bamboo tiki lights (which you can easily snag for cheap as well). And a lot of the decorations came from Michaels with help of their coupons. I would buy those long vines, and then we hot glued fake hibiscus flowers of all different tropical colors into it. We bought large straw type fans from Oriental Trading company and hot glued a tropical flower onto it as well. We got so many compliments on our wedding because it was so beautiful. We did a cupcake tower for our “cake” and also had a grooms cake and regular sheet cake. The most money out was on a photographer and renting chairs. Hope this helps you. If you want to see a pic, I would be more than happy to share with you :)..You can do it and make it look nice. It’s your wedding and what you remember is the special touches YOU wanted :

We had our wedding in my parent’s backyard. It was great! We rented a huge tent last minute so they gave us a deal, we hired a DJ that was new to the business to that was inexpensive and we had Sonny’s cater it! Our cake was from Publix. It was so fun and everyone had a blast!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

TD…regarding less expensive weddings. I think you really have to start with dollar amount budjet and stick to that first…then a list of what you really want that is most important to the both of you. Then pick a theme and go from there. Otherwise you’ll be all over the place with no plan and lots of suggestions that don’t fit. Don’t know if you want formal or less formal event but it is your special day to have and remember. You can print your own invitations, make your own flowers from a craft supply store and do decorations, buy cameras, party favors, etc. with ECB’s @ CVS or RR at Wags. I’ve heard of pot-luck wedding receptions where guests bring an item or food item instead of wedding gifts and share in the party that is done in someone’s nice yard….but you must have a list to keep track of who’s bringing what so you know what you still need to obtain.

Congrats on the planning. My wedding, 4 years ago, cost no more than $2000. We rented a church and dinning hall, paid for the mens suits, jewelry for the girls( I found the girls’ dresses on clearance for $20 each!), my dress, all of the decorations for the church and dinning hall, food for our guests(we had at least 200 stay for food and cake), the cake, all of the flowers, invitations, I think I even squeezed the rings in that amount! Pick a price limit and start looking for great sales and clearance items!

You should do a google search for wedding blogs. There are several out there that have great budget ideas/tips for weddings.

We had small wedding with just our families and closest friends wedding at a local botanical garden. They had several areas to choose from for small weddings that were only about $50 to rent. Afterward, we took pictures in the rose garden. The girl my brother was dating at the time was an art major, so she took the pictures for us.

I bought bubbles and a pretty basket to put them in at Michael’s, with 40% off coupons. We also got ‘just married’ car decorating static clings and a picture frame with a mat for the guests to sign at Jo Ann’s with coupons.

I got a pretty white dress at Dillard’s which reminded me of Romeo and Juliet that was perfect for a garden wedding, but looking back my one regret is not going all out with a formal wedding dress. I love the dress I had, but I feel like I missed my (hopefully) one chance to have a “real” wedding dress with a train and everything.

As others have said, there are TONS of ways to save money on your wedding (check out the wedding they had at younghouselove.com) but you first need to figure out what’s important to you. Do you want to feel like a pampered princess for the day? Do you want to be able to invite a lot of people? Is having an open bar and/or great food at the reception important to you? In order not to have regrets, I think sometimes you need to splurge in areas that matter to you.

      *make your own flower boquet
      *make your own invitation
*order one dinner for all guests so they don’t nitpick on which item to choose from (if they don’t like it, they can order off the menu; we paid for soft drinks but most guests paid their own drinks anyways
*we had a wedding with hawaiian theme; one best man/maid of honor
*entrust an aspiring photographer instead of a uber professional one that can include digital copy of photos
*book wedding venue in advance. (wedding price changed on us by $300 and i told the lady that she gave me a different quote and now she’s charging me for more. they honored the original price. whew!

I think the wedding cost itself (excluding honeymoon) was like $500-$800. That’s for family only and few good family friends of ours. No more than 80 guests. you can do it! just have to plan smart!

Looks like link is dead. Anyone else getting the same message?

Lisa’s link worked for me but I’m just curious, wouldn’t it be better to just use your 40% off coupons? Actually, if I remembered correctly I think this week’s mailer had a 50% off coupon!! I haven’t looked yet, so I may be wrong, but usually the weekly emails I get from them include a link to the coupon and I just print up as many as I think I will be needing.

    • tracy

the weekly ad coupons dont include sale items.

  10. SmiDgEx

it says the viewing limit has been reached. It didn’t work. 🙁

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

TD…forgot to say about wedding receptions. NO mayo or egg dishes and I think I heard cantaloupe…they go bad very, very quickly and the last thing you want is sick guests.

  12. Connie S

    all gone ;(

  13. Nicole

it says the limit has been reached…darn!

    • Cindy H.

Use the link posted earlier in this thread… worked for me even when the original link said they were gone.

thank you so much, this means the world to a group of 58 fifth graders. Our budget (my wallet hahah) was about 1/3 of last years budget for twice as many students to put together a summer gift bag. I was able to get 58 frisbees for 38 dollars with this coupon paired with Michael’s sale.
