Follow Me Wednesday (and Thursday) as I Make a Few More Phone Calls to Walgreens!

Yesterday, I posted Part 1 of my 3 part video series that highlights phone calls that I made to Walgreens stores across the country. I ended the video yesterday in the middle of a very informative conversation 😉 with a Walgreen’s employee in Missouri. Today’s video will highlight the remainder of this phone call and will also showcase a call to the Lone Star state (my birthplace 🙂 ) and to Walgreens corporate. Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comment section below.

**If you can’t see the video, then go here to watch it.

*Please note that I contacted Walgreens managers in the following 4 states: Idaho, North Carolina, Missouri and Texas; and I called the Walgreens Corporate Customer Service Center in Alabama. Because these states only require one party consent to record a telephone conversation, I was able to record these phone calls legally! 🙂

Stay Tuned for Part 3….

    Such a cliffhanger…hurry and post part 3!!!!!!

  2. Brandy

I love it. You really need to send this series along with a letter to Walgreens so they can see how uneducated their staff, managers and corporate CS really are. My favorite parts: coupons are generally not high value meeting or exceeding the price of an item – and if they are then the store would raise the price? or something? lol And, of course … in-store coupons are manufacturer coupons ha

  3. Melissa

DID SHE REALLY PUT YOU ON HOLD???? OH MY WORD…RUDE!….and we wonder why we have so much trouble using coupons there…another question to ask is if we can stack the coupons, then why does the system beep at us because we are using more than one coupon per item? I am so tired of it beeping at me!!!

  4. Chandra

LOL this part was even funnier than part 1!! Fantastic stuff you’re doing here Collin! Can’t wait for part 3! =D

  5. Serafina

OK, that is the best ending I have seen thus far! HILARIOUS! Oh boy, should some of the Wags higher-ups see this one! I mean honestly.

Thanks for trying to clear it up, although, I’m not sure if we’ve made progress…. yet!

  6. Renee

    hahahaha I can’t wait for part 3!!!

  7. Melissa

That is hilarious! It erks me that every store is different on their beliefs, ugh!
    Hilarious video, great job!

  8. Shanna

LMMMMAAAAOOOOO!!! THe ending is classic! I actually get that ALL THE TIME!

  9. Ryan

OH MY LORD….i am so thankful that most of these people do not work at my 5 walgreens in the area…i will consider myselft lucky….god bless the northern IL walgreen works 🙂

  10. Tawanda!

This almost as good as Punked! Part of my job is interaction with the public or community, and if I don’t know something, I admit and tell them I don;t know, but I will find out. I also tell the person I’m putting them on hold before I do it. Can’t wait to see part III and if WAGS decides to post a response.

    • Mary S.

I had the same thoughts about the person just putting her on hold with no warning. It would have been much better if she had just said “I have to check on that for you, could a put you on hold for a minute?”

  11. Angela

Wow, if you can manage through this series to get some level of consistency from Walgreens it would be a GODSEND! I’m just learning which cashiers have their own policy that aren’t coupon friendly and which do. BTW, none of them will admit the “policies” they follow are their own made up ones, but they would have to be for all the inconsistency demonstrated! LOVE the new direction of weekly videos, rock on.

    • Christa K.

Agreed, good point. And the fact that there IS no official coupon policy is also proof that if they ‘have’ a policy, it’s made up.

  12. Christa K.

I’m totally LOL, clapping my hands & rocking in my seat – SO FUNNY! Wow, isn’t it sad though? For Walgreens that is, talk about egg in their face. You should send a video link to Walgreens with a question asking “Just wondering if you train your people…” 😉 Wow.

  13. Jaime

    Wow, just wow.

  14. Prathee Selvam

Awesome!! I love the ending :)))))

  15. jaclyn

    WOW!!!!!!!!
    I am shocked…. what the??

  16. Angel

    This is too funny!!

  17. Jen

I LOVE THESE VIDEOS. I think you should do them for all stores we have common problems with!!!!!!!!

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Really now!!!!!! I can’t believe she put you on hold, didn’t even bother telling you she was going to and then to top it off you had to listen to that awful elevator music or whatever it was. HOW RUDE!!!! Did she ever even come back? Can’t wait to see the next part, I am in suspense now. HURRY and keep us posted. I need a little more amusement from these people.

  19. Christylee

I think the girl that was at the end of the last video was the daughter of the corprate worker that just slammed you on hold because she didn’t know the answer-both dumb as a box of rocks. AWESOME cannot wait for part three!

  20. Lnonblonde

    Collin,
Great videos, I can’t wait to see part 3.
Thank you for showing the schizophrenic experience us Walgreens shoppers experience depending on which store/manager/cashier we are dealing with.
i have repeatedly emailed Walgreens asking them to develop a written coupon policy and telling their corporate offices how inconsistent their stores and managers are about accepting certain coupons and/or scenarios. The only response I get is to have their regional manager call me asking to clear up “specific” problems but the overall problem does not get addressed. Some Walgreens stores/managers and cashiers are more coupon friendly than others.
I also wanted to let you know that cashiers at Walgreens are monitored for “voids” of transactions or excessive coupon transactions. Like a cashier can control a customers coupon use! I think it is very unfair that the cashiers can be punished because of voided coupon transactions due to Walgreens inconsistent policies as well as for cashier to be viewed as “suspect” because they have large amounts of coupon transactions. This contributes to the “Coupon Police” attitude we couponing shoppers are at times experience.
Walgreens needs to realize that for all the great sales they put out there, they will lose customers ( especially with Rite Aid and CVS giving great deals and trying to be more coupon friendly) over their lack of a consistent written corporate coupon policy. Look how much better Target has gotten now that their policy is written and their cashiers/GTL’s have been trained to address and solve coupon issues.
Is it time for a concerted effort to influence Walgreens do have a consistent written policy as well as train their cashiers to be coupon friendly?

  21. andie

Thanks for sharing the frustration. Maybe it would have been easier to just poke yourself in the eye a couple times. Makes us all thankful for “the other stores”!

  22. Melinda P

ROFL!!! This just gets better and better! Seems like a customer service phone operator should TELL the person they are putting on hold BEFORE putting them on hold… Collin, SUPER entertaining, can’t wait for part 3, the Walgreens corporate person sounds like a REAL winner. 🙂

  23. annie

I can’t wait for part 3! This is pretty funny! I actually went to a Walgreens several months ago for the Skintimate shave cream, and I took 2 up the the counter (I had a coupon for $?/2 and there was a full price RR on it). I am pretty sure there was not a limit listed in the ad (my neighbor had bought 2 the day before at a different Walgreens) for the product, but the cashier turned around to the manager and gave her a look. She nodded. He turned back to me and said, “Sorry, you can only get one of these b/c it’s a promotional item.” ????

    • Janie

That makes sense, though. They have to limit RR items because some people will try to take all of them. I’m glad that a few of my stores have a limit of 1 per customer, that way more people can get the deal. 🙂

    • jamie e.

ok, that is really stupid! Why would they care who is buying it as long as it is getting bought!?! If there was a limit of one register reward per transaction you would only get one reward even though you bought 2 and the store would get the money back from the coupons you used, so why would they only allow you to buy one! That is just straight up stupid!

      • annie

I get that they have the limit the promotional items, but there was no rhyme or reason to how it was done between Walgreens stores. All i had to do was go to another store to get the 2 instead of 1. And I like the items that are limited b/c it’s incredibly annoying to have to drive around to different Walgreens with a 1 year old looking for a can of shaving cream left on the shelf. Just make it the same everywhere…..

  24. Coupon Pro

    Oh my gosh hahaha

  25. Margaret

ditto with all the other comments. It is exactly these videos that made me wonder why your blog post earlier on the most uncoupon friendly store was Walmart. I rarely have problems there and have these exact problems at Walgreens weekly!!!

When I tried to get a corporate policy they transfered me to the local manager…unfortunately we have about 10 local stores nearby that I shop at on occasion and they all have different managers with different on-the-minute policies.

Perhaps your clout can change this about Walgreens???

    • amanda

Margaret Because more of us had more problems with Walmart than Walgreens. In my area Walgreens is the best about taking coupons and Walmart is the worst.

  26. tosha

My Wags won’t even take printable coupons anymore. they said they’re ALL fake.

  27. Rachel

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’m so frustrated at Walgreens….all the inconsistancies and poor customer service. There are pleny of CVS’ and Rite Aids in my area. I think I’m done with Walgreens…it’s such a waste of time to shop there. Unless they come out with an official coupon policy (that they follow), it’s just not worth the headache.

  28. Paulette

Oh my, that is hilarious!!!!!! Yep I have a Walgreens down the road and this is why I don’t shop there….EVER!! You really should send this to their corporate office, and maybe they will write up a coupon policy. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the call…LOL LOL LOL!!!

  29. Natalie

i am LOVING this!!! that is hilarious!

  30. Heather @ My Sweet Savings

Oh my gosh! I was laughing so hard that my little boy said Mommy, what it is so funny! LOL! The one that really got me was the lady that said there are not coupons with more value than an item! 🙂

    • Rachel

hahah! I was laughing so hard at that, too! your face was awesome! thank you for cheering me up this week after a RA experience. I never shop Walgreens b/c of the employees. Ha ha! 🙂

  31. Eva

collin I agree with a previous post you should send this video to Wal Green’s cooperate to urge them to educate their entire staff about coupons. I felt so bad for you making all these calls you must have had a headache after. Wal Mart is also very uuneducated about their coupon policy I would love to see you make calls to Walmart as well along with a link to the video you make. Keep up the good work

  32. Heather @ My Sweet Savings

Oh my gosh! I was laughing so hard that my little boy said Mommy, what it is so funny! LOL! The one that really got me was the lady that said there are not coupons with more value than an item!

  33. Ayesha

    it was really funny..

  34. Jenni @ Sweet Pennies from Heaven

Well, you can’t get really any higher up than Corporate so I’m a little shocked to know that NO ONE knows the steadfast rules and details on couponing at Wags!! I’m assuming that chic was sweating and I can’t wait to see who ends up on the phone on part 3!! Toooo funnny 🙂

    • Brandy

I’m pretty sure that they have a database with ‘common questions and answers’ – you know like you see online. You type in a few key words of your question and the web pulls back ‘stock’ answers. I’m sure that is what this corp. CS employee was doing – thus all the typing.

Collin’s question was just a little too detailed haha

  35. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Pleeeeaaase put the videos in the right hands of a walgreens head hancho at their corporate office!

  36. Laurie

I am so glad you posted these videos because I find it mind boggling how the employees of Walgreens and other stores do not understand or not educated on corporate policies. If I was the CEO of Walgreens and/or any other large retailer, I would be furious to see how the company is being represented.

  37. michstar76

LOL- I love the comments you put in between the video!! I cannot believe the corporate CSR just put you on hold like that- she must have just been totally flustered by your questions!! Walgreens should be embarrassed that there employees can’t answer questions like these!!

I agree that you should send it to corporate!!

  38. Christylee

Here is what I could find about Corporate Walgreens maybe we should write a letter to each Board member directly and flood their mailboxes with a demand of a coupon policy

    Walgreen Company Corporate Office
    Write or call us at:
    200 Wilmot Road
    Deerfield, IL 60015
    (847) 914-2500

Walgreen Co. is a publicly-held company headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, so it’s owned by its shareholders. The board of directors includes:
    Alan G. McNally
    Nancy M. Schlichting
    James A. Skinner
    Marilou M. von Ferstel
    William C. Foote
    Charles R. Walgreen, III
    James J. Howard
    Cordell Reed
    David Y. Schwartz
    Jeffrey Rein
    David W. Bernauer

I am going to send out a letter to each one, lets demand some answers H2S followers!

    • Brianna

      Christylee, I love this idea!

    • Cally

I Vote yes on this idea as well! I’m in utter shock over this last post Collin made! Wow is all I have to say to that! I think the CEO’s of the company need to see this research Collin has done, along with some letters from the regular WAG customers. This customer service is poor, and appalling. It just goes to show the regular frustration that we have to deal with from a day to day basis. I would like to point out to them as well, that if there is not a coupon policy in place and I go out of town, or decide to use a different store how am I to know what to do? This flip flopping coupon policy is not acceptable!

  39. Kelly

OMG! I cannot stop laughing!! And I can’t wait to see the rest of the corporate phone call, how’s she going to recover from putting you on hold in the middle of her explanation that obviously she was confused and was getting mad at you for being right…oh man, this is like a soap opera! ROFL!!!

  40. Jenn

The mean cashiers at Wallgreens killed my new zeal for using coupons… tellling me I was frauding the system and could go to jail for coupon fraud. I was trying to use two coupons on a B1G1 free and they made me feel horrible. Talked to manager, held up I line, I was bright red with embarrassment and only 2 months into couponing (a novice). Went to a wallgreens two towns away and had not one problem. This company NEEDS to get it together and have CORPORATE policy. They need to educate their sales reps, managers, and according to this video, their corporate reps as well. I haven’t been back to Wallgreens since and do all my shopping at Rite aid because if it. They are losing customers… I hope Collin can some how talk some sense into them and make them have a corporate policy. Sheesh! Great job Collin. You are my hero!!!

    • Kristen

I had the manager at a Walgreens tell me that adjusting down a coupon was coupon fraud. I was SO frustrated.

      • nicole

I agree that I is coupon fraud on the part of the business… Not the coupon holder. They redeem the coupon at face value plus an $08 handling. So he had it backwards but it is fraud.

  41. Janet

OMG! LMAO!!! WOW, I can’t believe the end of that video. She started to stutter and then put you on hold. Class act!

  42. Nicole P

BAHAHAHA! Hi there Miss Collin June! LOL- I think the best part about the whole thing is that corporate seems to be the only one called that thinks IVC coupons are manufacturer coupons. So corporate seems less educated than the people working their stores- it is no wonder no one knows what is going on!

  43. mommy308

This was hilarious and sad all at the same time. I think I’m actually more confused(if that’s even possible) then I was before. Wow! LOL

  44. Janelle

Oh my goodness! I don’t know if I should laugh or bang my head a few times, this is crazy that corporate is worse than the cashiers. Thank you so much for all that you do!

  45. fran

This was like a version of “Sally go round in circles”. Do they even know what the heck they are talking about? The one lady didn’t even know what IVCs were…”oh you mean the ones in the booklet?”…duh! Then you asked about coupons, and she says “you mean RRs?”. If I meant RRs, I would have said RRs…ugh! I thought she hung up on you at first, Mrs. June, and when did you move? 🙂

  46. Laura

I have lots of Wag stores near me in Minnesota, and generally have the nicest cashiers. One was super helpful to me today when I was using the Celsius Green Tea internet coupon.

I can’t wait to see how your call to corporate ends!

  47. CW

Ok, that just made my day. Toooooo funny! Way to get to the bottom of the Walgreens couponing debacle! YOU ROCK Collin 🙂 Thanks for your investigative reporting…it was informative and entertaining…HA! Can’t wait for part 3.

  48. stickmayo

Oh girl! Now I’m sitting on the edge of my chair with popcorn and that’s it???? LOL Can’t wait til part 3. Collin June, you rock!!

  49. rosetreats28

    HILARIOUS!!!

  50. E

Thanks for doing this for us! I ALWAYS have a hard time shopping at Walgreens with coupons and register rewards. I really cannot stand shopping there!
