Follow Me Wednesday (and Thursday) as I Make a Few More Phone Calls to Walgreens!
Yesterday, I posted Part 1 of my 3 part video series that highlights phone calls that I made to Walgreens stores across the country. I ended the video yesterday in the middle of a very informative conversation 😉 with a Walgreen’s employee in Missouri. Today’s video will highlight the remainder of this phone call and will also showcase a call to the Lone Star state (my birthplace 🙂 ) and to Walgreens corporate. Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comment section below.
**If you can’t see the video, then go here to watch it.
*Please note that I contacted Walgreens managers in the following 4 states: Idaho, North Carolina, Missouri and Texas; and I called the Walgreens Corporate Customer Service Center in Alabama. Because these states only require one party consent to record a telephone conversation, I was able to record these phone calls legally! 🙂
Stay Tuned for Part 3….
Oh. my. gosh.
I’m dying… its hilarious but SO PAINFULLY TRUE!! And yea, its bizarre that their corporate customer service line seems to be such a train wreck… I really would have expected better.
OMG! So funny. She just freaked and put you on hold..lol. I love it. These videos deff show what we go through when we shop at all stores!! Not just walgreens. Thanks for sharing (:
WOW!!! Just… wow….
This is kinda sad. I’m in the DFW area, and I haven’t really ever had a problem using coupons, or even using a BOGO MFQ with a BOGO store sale. However, these videos just prove that NOBODY knows anything, even the managers. Even though they answered the question doesn’t mean they really “KNEW” the anwer. haha A lot of people just make up stuff…which IRKS me!!
OMG youre in the DFW area? Me too, please come to my store. IM a very qpon friendly Wags cashier.
lol…thanks for the laugh!! Can’t wait to see what she comes back with…
HILARIOUS!!!!
HAHAHAHA “Hold please” OMG IM LMAO!
This is the greatest idea for the follow me series. I can’t believe how many comments you have gotten from people who no longer shop at walgreens because of how they treat couponers. I don’t have a walgreens around me, but I really enjoy rite aid and cvs. Did you ever hear back from walmart when you sent them your poll results?
I had my own coupon issues with them today! It took 4 tries to ring it up right and then when I went to go pay, their system wouldn’t take my Register Rewards to pay for the items. The clerk told me I had too many coupons for it to accept. So, now I have $20.00 in RR that will probably expire. I’m done with Walgreens!
RR are MFC, so you have to be sure that you don’t have too many MFC for how many items you have. RR’s are not cash.
No No Nicole, don’t waste you reg reward! Here is the issue…let’s say you have 5 items and you have 4 manufacturer coupons and 2 register rewards, it won’t work b/c you have 6 Q’S and 5 items. So here is what I do.. First of all they have a nice little tray of caramels @ the register, that is my back-up, if I need to add more items. But first I make sure that the # of coupons I have, do not exceed the # of items. if I do, I add the little caramels to achieve an equal # of Q & items and it will go thru. UNLESS, I am actually in the negative. At that point I add a caramel at a time until the last manuf. coupon goes thru. BTW the caramels are either 33 or 36 cents each. Also this scenario is based on actual manufacturer coupons not the IVC or IN-AD coupons. The IVC & IN-AD, should not affect your ability to use your manu. q’s. Hope I made some sense!
I have steered away from Walgreens because they seem to make up thier rules on a daily basis. I had a cashier tell me to only come during the day with my coupons and to go to the cosmentics to check out instead of shopping in the evening and having no one behind me and then being told they wouldn’t take my coupons.
I personally think it is crap that RR are considered MFC and that the number of items has to meet or exceed the number of RR/MFC’s that you are trying to use. CVS lets you pile on their rewards so you can save up for a big item and use them all at once. I do not shop at Wags often because they are usually out of the sale items and/or I have problems with coupons and/or RR.
And I thought waiting for Toy Story 3 was bad. Can’t wait for Walgreens Phone Calls Part 3! I’m impressed that you were able to hold your tongue and just listen to their (sometimes silly or wrong) answers. 🙂
that was Hilarious. She totally panicked.
It almost sounded like the cs rep dropped the phone, ran across the floor in high heels and then you got dropped on hold.
imagine being scared of coupons. but i think that’s the majority. they’re scared of giving us a discount and it not being legitimate and then being reprimanded or losing their jobs. but it’s totally irrational.
some cashiers should really be trained more. but without a corporate coupon policy, odds are that they aren’t trained to use them.
You had Ms. Corporate Wags shook! She was about to lose her mind, so she had to put you on hold. Hahaahahahaha! If Walgreens doesn’t want to change with the times and get with the program they will lose valuable customers to Rite Aid & CVS. It’s their choice….change or get kicked to the curb. Collin, you did another great job putting this vid together, can’t wait to see vid #3. Your facial expressions crack me up!
I am loving this! I also cannot wait for #3! I had a bad coupon experience at Walgreens about a month ago and I have not been back and I probably will not go back…I used to LOOOOVE WG, too! I asked to see their coupon policy after they denied one of my coupons and was told, as she laughed by the way, they did not have one nor did they have to have one. I went home and sent an email to corporate and never heard a word. They just opened one up in walking distance to my house, but after my experience I will drive the 3 miles to CVS….never had a problem there.
Love that! I am new to couponing. I have been to Walgreens twice now and both times they were out of the objects I wanted to buy and they rejected my coupons and made me feel dumb!!!! I have filled out the survey information on the receipt both times but no one has ever contacted me! Bleh!!!!
I am so gald you did this, maybe Walgreens corp needs to see this. Every store is different. I have done the b1g1 before but most of the walgreens do not like to take coupons. If you are getting it for little of nothing they do not. this is great I love it cant wait for the next clip. I want to hear what they have to say other than putting you on hold. that was crazy.

I am seriously anticipating the next video!! does she come back… does she pass you on to someone else… does she cry?!? Oh my heart, I just can’t stop laughing!! You frightened that poor woman. 🙂
My WAGS told me they don’t take Internet coupons anymore because they were having trouble being reimbursed. I called corporate, and my store called me back. I explained that mine were valid, and the manager said, “I’ll tell you what…you bring those coupons in and I’ll let YOU use them.” So I’m guessing he wouldn’t let anyone else? Isn’t that illegal???!!! Until change comes, I think I am DONE with Walgreens.
I stopped shopping at Walgreens about 6 months ago because I was becoming a nervous wreck every time I went in. I was always treated so poorly and suspiciously that I just decided it’s not worth it. These videos are really making me laugh and reminding me again why I do not shop there.
Unbelievable! You would think a large chain store like Walgreen’s would be a little more professional!!
I am having the total opposite experience
CVS is giving me fits — Walgreens are actually taping manufacturers coupons on the items that are on sale in the stores.
A couple of the Walgreens I go to they actually having someone teaching people how to combine the coupons with the sales fliers
So I guess it really depends on the managers
OMG I am laughing so hard…..can not wait for part 3….I hope we see it tonight. U R too funny I was just telling my DH (strong coupon supporter) of your video…..WOW!!!!
I actually called my store today and spoke to the store manager and told her all the problems I have when she is not there. She was surprised to hear everything that was going on and what I was told by one of her managers and cashiers……I will only go there when she is there otherwise i dont waste my time!!!
Apart from that I had called Wags Corp. twice (maybe like 2-3 months ago) and they NEVER returned my call. One of the calls was on an RR that did not print!
OMG if i was walgreens i would get my coupon policy in check fast! This is embarrasing for their company! Just shows how little these companies know about their own coupon policy. It’s sad that no-one will enforce the coupon policy to be mandatory to know if you work for that particualr company. It’s just sad. It makes the company look bad & no-one is gonna believe they can run their own company if everyone doesn’t know anything legitiment, no one can give you a firm answer. Everything is unstable and they all sounded unsure with their answers. If i was walgreens & other companies also, like target and walmart, i would enforce coupon policy on all workers, even coporate should know! Everyone in the company needs a lesson! EVERYONE!!!! And every company should have a valid coupon policy on their website & all cashiers should have it posted above their registers!!!! lol geesh these people are ignorant when it comes to coupon policies, and its not their faults its the companies fault for bein ignorant to it too.
When I heard the corporate lady typing I instantly thought of the scene in the movie “Meet the Parents” where the guy is trying to get a plane ticket and she just keeps typing…a lot of typing. So funny!
lmao!! me too!!
hahah!!!!! so funny!!!!
OMG! Placing a call on hold without notifying the caller is against FCC regulations for call centers in America. WOW, I work at a call center and I would lose my job for that. The CSR is required to state that they will be placing you on a hold and then they must confirm that you consent to being placed on hold. As in, “Ma’am I am going to place you in a brief hold, is that ok?” WOW, do they not monitor their CSR’s? LMAO!!!
Totally agree here. As a call center VP of a very large national company myself, I am shocked that the rep did not ask to put you on hold. Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she dropped the phone??? Maybe, maybe not. Colin, I can’t wait to see and hear part three. I encountered too many issues today at three different Walgreens. Think I should take a break and not shop there anymore, but the deals are great. Wish we had at CVS in our town.
This was so funny. They were like a drownding man grasping for anything they could…..
I hope this video gets back to Walgreens Corp so they start making some changes, I mean really how hard can it be to create a Corp Coupon Policy? This video kind of reminds me of Super Size Me when he went around trying to find the Nutritional Facts and got all kinds of cooky answers….
I’ve had some bad trips to Walgreens too – I especially get annoyed when they say I have too many coupons for the items I’m buying – apparently you have to have the same number of coupons as items so sometimes that means I can’t use a store coupon with a manufacturer’s coupons. Also, like Sharon, they’ve refused my Register Rewards because of too many coupons. I don’t go there often needless to say!!
Oh, Colin – how I love you.
All I can say is wow!
That is so funny!!!! The corporate lady totally didn’t want to talk to you!!!! Great customer service … just putting a customer on hold in the middle of a conversation! Hilarious!!!!
There are some wonderful cashiers and managers at the Walgreens stores, 3 of them, near me. One of them actually cuts out coupons to give to customers. Several cheer me on when I am able to get a really good deal. The cashier in cosmetics offered to call another store when they were out of one of the RR items a while back. I did have a problem recently trying to use a BOGO coupon with a BOGO sale. No matter what the cashier tried, he could not get the register to accept it. He offered to call a manager, but a line was starting to form behind me, so I asked him to just take the items off. I noticed that the register tape showed the price for one and $0 for the other, so maybe that was why it wouldn’t work.
You’re right…B1G1’s that are coded with a “14” attach to 2 products and “01” attach to only one product…01’s will fly through on those type of sales, 14’s will beep all day long. But Walgreen’s is hit or miss on how they ring up B1G1 sales…sometimes it will show B1GLP, giving both items a value.
I wish I can understand what you saying on phone …..
WOW!!! You really owned that last one lol….what an idiot working for wags roflmao
OMG! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!! 🙂
Colin,
Thank you for all that you do! This documentary really showcases how much there should be a corporate policy, and what a challenge it is for couponers.
I can’t believe how she cut you off and put you on hold, without some sort of verbal “Please hold” or “Let me check/get…” I guess that sums up how they want their company run!
This is great! There should be a link to this posted on the Walgreens page on Facebook for everyone to watch! Maybe that will get corporate into gear w/ a coupon policy!
Oh no she dind’t just put you on hold!!!!?
This might be the best Follow Me Series yet!!!
Oh my goodness thats totally funny. It’s pretty bad when people working at Corporate Customer Service have NO clue how to answer you and just say nothing while placing you on hold. What the Heck?? Walgreens should be scrambling to educate employees after this.
These make me love my local Walgreens more and more! Can’t wait for part 3!!!
I was laughing so loud my family dashed in to see if I was ok.
It is really sad that they don’t have a consistent policy so we don’t have to wonder what will happen depending on the cashier. I have found one Walgreens that has a coupon friendly cashier. I only shop the days she works. She has Mondays off so I often miss out on the good RR items as I can’t get there on Sunday. But, knowing what to expect is priceless.
BWAAA ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! (wipes tear from corner of her eye.) that was hilarious and so, so sad. i made the same sort of phone calls with wags in the cleveland, ohio area. i called 5 different stores and asked the same questions. everyone was in agreement about stacking MFQs, IVCs and in-ad coupons. it was split 3-2 on BOGO Qs on BOGO sales and adjusting coupons down. three said no and 2 said yes. after a particularly bad shopping experience i went into my walgreens and asked for the manager. he told me that adjusting a coupon down was illegal (!) as was using a BOGO Q on a BOGO sale. i feel kind of bad for the people who work at wags. . . if corporate doesn’t know what’s going on, how the heck are walgreens employees supposed to know what to do? especially the cashiers. . . they only have their manager’s training to go by. sigh.
Collin June! Love it
Thank you so much for doing this…It is amazing a Walgreens is almost on every corner and depending which store you go to will determine what coupons you can use and where. I sure hope they get the facts straight…It is truly entertaining to watch…Can’t wait for the remainder of this video…:)
i dont know why it wouldnt let me submit a deal, but here is a link for some FREE SAMPLES if you havent already gotten them…… https://www.qualityhealth.com/registration?rf=44378 link found on coupons.com
I can’t believe no one even knows the policy! They must make things up as they go! This company is such a joke and seriously needs some customer service training. I can’t believe she just put Collin on hold without even asking her permission
SO HILARIOUS! The corporate lady is so flippin funny. I never have problems at my Walgreens, but good to know about the BOGO. I never dared to try it before.
All I can say is Oh My Gosh! Geeze!
This is why I voted for Walgreens in that coupon poll. 🙂
That’s too funny that she just put you on hold like that. I don’t shop at Walgreens, I’m a loyal CVS-er (course I work there too), it’s ridiculus that they don’t have a policy written out.
Just this morning I had a manager at Walgreens tell me that my second transaction would not produce RR because I had just done the same transaction. When the second set of RR printed out he said I was very lucky because normally the registers “know” when someone is doing more then one transaction a day … huh? Lucky for me I didn’t get one of those all knowing registers! I just smiled and said thanks!
You are so funny! An all knowing register! Ha!
Hilarious! How would the POS be able to distinguish one customer from another? They can’t!
OMG, these people are so insane!
I guess I am lucky! I love my Walgreens. I have never had a problem there. I can tell one of the managers gets frustrated with me, but oh well lol. My store wasn’t participating in the 4-day sale but I printed the flyer and took it in and he price adjusted everything for me so I could get it all, but it wouldnt work. If he price adjusted it, then the rr wouldnt print….but he is awesome for even trying for me 🙂
