Target: Save 5% on Purchases + Catalina Coupons?!
Are you a frequent Target shopper? If so, you may want to consider becoming a Target cardholder as well (if you aren’t one already). Beginning October 17th, ALL Target REDcardholders will save 5% off their entire purchase when they use their Target Credit Card (accepted in-stores and online) or Check Card (only accepted at Target stores) at checkout. You may be thinkin’ 5%…why waste my time? Consider the fact that if you spend $100, you are automatically saving $5 simply by swiping your card (no coupons or rewards points needed). And with no annual fee, it seems like a great way to save a few bucks. Plus, Target will donate 1% of your REDcard purchase at Target stores and Target.com to any eligible K-12 school. Please note that there is no information about this 5% savings online, but I did confirm with customer service that this program is starting everywhere on October 17th.
*If you are interested in signing up for a check card, you must apply in a Target store. If your application is approved, you will receive a temporary card that can be used immediately. You will receive the actual check card in 7-10 business days. You can apply for a Target Credit Card in a Target store or online.

The one in Huntsville, AL does – I was surprised the other day when I saw some printing out. But thanks be to their management in how they are treating couponers, I don’t intend to go there anymore unless I HAVE to.

They used to have a program where if you earned 1000 points, you got a coupon for 10% off your entire shopping order. They did away with this program to save 5% every time you use your card.

Yes. I got a letter back in August saying that the Red Card points system would end in October and it would go to 5% off all the time. It seem to take effect immediately thought. FYI – the prescription drug rewards with the Red Card are also great!
Yup–I’ve gotten quite a few. Nothing terribly useful, though. (Not that I really check too hard. Most of the ones I get are for things I don’t buy.)
I love the new coupons!! The other day it printed off one for a free box of Market Pantry fruit snacks when you buy 2 MP juices. They had apple juices on clearance for $1.02 so $2.04 plus tax of course for 2 bottles of apple juice and a box of fruit snacks! My lil man is in snacking heaven:)

We have the Cat machines in our Target as well although when I got the reach floss and several other items the only coupon it generated was $1 off Kotex product. At least its a Target coupon that can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon!

We’ve had the catalina machines at my local store for about 6 months now. Once in awhile I get a really good coupon. And, most people walk away without grabbing theirs so there is a nice stack sitting on top. I used to work at this Target and know most of the cashier, they offer the coupons to me when the see me in line, lol
Yes the redcard points system is ending as of the 17th. It’s being replaced with the 5% savings every time you use your target credit or check card. I am quiet excited for this…having a hubby that works for target + the 5%off is going to save me 15% EVERY time I shop at Target YIPPEE!!!!! 🙂

I used my card at Target today and it took off the 5%. The cashier was surprised and said she didn’t realize it was starting already. I like this better than the 10% off occasionally for 1000 points.
We have had the catalinas since summer here and occasionally you get a nice coupon. Sometimes though, its just an advertisement for Airwick….I’ve gotten several of those.
I recently received a $2 off any Market Pantry frozen food. I had bought three frozen foods in my order, so I am guessing that triggered it.

ooh I love Target catalinas! My Target has had them for quite a while; I got the $2 floss one as well, and in the past I got some free yogurt and pizza cats. A nice little extra.

What is the difference b/t a Target cc & a Target checkcard … how does a checkcard work?
The check card is linked to your existing checking account so the money comes out of the same place as if you had just used your bank issued debit card. the credit card is like any other, you pay with it and get the bill in the mail later.
Just a little side note about carrying Target credit card. A friend of mine who lost her professional position and spent quite a time looking for another could no longer make her credit card payments. She had quite a few credit cards from various issuers and Target National Bank was the only one who would not work with her to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. They wouldn’t take the payment she offered and sued her for the full amount after only six months. She found another job but has had to deal with this hassle in court while all other credit cards and accounts lowered her interest rate and gave her reduced payments until she could get back on her feel.
I thought it was a fluke until I heard virtually the same story from another person who is just beginning to have financial problems~not such an unheard of thing in this economy. Don’t know why they would rather people bankrupt and pay them nothing than get some money.

i also have had a horrible experience with target cc..i applied online, was approved and received card…only a 200 limit, which was odd, because most of ours are thousands. I tried to sign up for the online acct monitoring, it wouldn’t let me. I called and tried to pay bill on phone they said SSN didn’t match record. I’ve had mine memorized for 18 years! THen they told me the ONLY WAY to fix it was to fax them my SSN, My drivers license and my birth certificate. I said no way!! They also will not allow me to close the account saying only the account holder can make those decisions lol ugh

We have them in the Des Moines area- didn’t realize they were a new thing! Last week I got $2 off their ice cream which was great because my son’s birthday was yesterday and the ice cream is on price cut right now for $2.69!
We’ve had them for a couple months in Clearwater. I have one question though. Sometimes I get ones that say Manufacturers Coupon at the top and sometimes I get ones that say Target Coupon. I can use the manufacturer ones at other stores if they accept competitor coupons, right? Even though they say “redeemable at Target” on them?
Yes I get them that way too. I like the ones like that because I can combine them with TQ or mfg coupons.
You should be able to use them at other stores since they’re manufacturer coupons, but every once in a while the cashier might give you issues b/c of the “redeem at target” part.
They already started it at my Target – I went last night. And I had a 10% off coupon so I got 15% off! I saved $161 and paid $250 for TONS of stuff and groceries. I needed 2 carts.
I have a 10% off reward as well. It sounds like from your post, it can be stacked with the new 5% off program. I’m saving mine for my Christmas shopping next month.
Just a little info on the Target cards, first the “check card” is a Target ONLY, debit card, it is just like your debit card from your bank. It will be tied to your bank and the money will come out of your account just like your normal debit card does. The credit card is just that, it’s a credit card and you will recieved a monthly statement. So the only “confusion” might be is that you will have a debit card in your wallet that is bright red, that can only be used at Target. It cannot be used at any other stores and it cannot be used at Target.com. (the credit card can be used at Target.com though) The 5% has already started in my area. And the 5% off comes after your coupons have been deducted.
I didn’t know all the stores didn’t have catalina machines. All mine have had them forever but I’m also in the testing area so we have been getting the 5% discount for a long time. I love it!
Same here – all my Target stores have had them for at least a year or two.
The catalina machines have been at my local Target since early this year and they were at one of Huntsville,AL stores in April when I was home visiting family.
My Target store in Roanoke, VA does have now and I need to make some trips to Target to get some cat to stack with mfc coupons to save some $$.
Yesterday started a ‘soft’ launch that the 5 percent will work in store and on line on the 17th is more of a advertizing type of launch..so go ahead and if you sign up for the red scard from today till the 15th you should get 10 percent your first order…

I get some awesome Catalina coupons at my Target. I’ve gotten lots for diapers and wipes (since I almost always buy them there) and for food. The other day one printed out for a FREE box of the new Kleenex hand towels! How awesome is that??!
In Sept I got a $5 off $50 purchase cat every time I went to Target. I think DH was about to shoot me when I told him we’d have to break our 10% day into $50 chunks so I could use my coupons too. 🙂

To sweeten the 5% deal, if you are not already a card holder (or your spouse is not!), he can apply too ) you can apply for the card at the store BEFORE Sunday and save 10% on your purchase, and possibly the 5% (they are running what is called a soft roll out, where some stores are already giving the 5%.)
i shopped at target today, and the 5% came of on my receipt.
We have the catalina machines here in AR, and I got a letter about the new redcard program. My Target card has always been my favorite/easiest/cheapest one to use, but now I will like it even better. 🙂

I was actually at Target here in Portland today and while standing at checkout and talking to the clerk, a supervisor came to the cashier and told her that the computers were actually on line now for the 5%. So maybe sooner than the 17th. Just FYI.
To anyone who recieved the 5% discount on the 13th, Target was doing a test run of the system in preperation for the 17th so the 5% will not work the rest of this week, however if you have a Redcard and have points saved over 1000 you will still recieve your 10% off coupons for up to 6 months depending on the amount of points you have, the 10% and 5% can be stacked also, just thought I would share!
I went to Target today and received the 5% discount!!
Also I wanted to tell everyone and maybe you already know but the 5% discount will come off your total before coupons!!!!!!

I have had customers in front of me not want them, so then I snag them and its awesome! 🙂
I live in NE and we’ve had the Catalina machines for a while. I’ve gotten some great deals but wish I could figure out what triggers them. Sometimes it’s obviously linked to products I bought, but my fave is the $5 off $50 of groceries – SO easy!
