How many of you are planning to host Thanksgiving dinner this year? Much to my husband’s delight ;), I will not be in charge of cooking this year as I am at my mom’s house in Idaho.

Check out these 2 emails I recently received from readers…

With the holidays quickly approaching, I was wondering if you have suggestions on “buy it” prices for things such as Libby’s pumpkin, turkeys, etc. Thanks again for everything!

Okay, so I have been driving all over town trying to figure out who has the best prices on everything one would need for a Thanksgiving meal. It would be awesome if you could compile a list of all the different prices each store has on hams, turkeys, and all the other goodies. Or perhaps a list of the best prices around. It would totally help me out and I am sure others as well!

So once again, I am asking all of you to help out these readers (and me!) by providing your “Buy It Now” prices for some popular holiday items like turkey, canned pumpkin etc. If you have recently found a great deal on a holiday food item, feel free to leave a comment below listing the store where you purchased the item, the purchase price, and any other helpful information. Thanks so much!

Pumpkin pie $2.99 at publix and use $1 off Target bakery coupon making it $1.99!!

    yay!!

    • Anonymous

Love it! Publix also has a printable! $5 off $50; coupon link below. With double coupons, store/competitor coupons, this week at Publix, Thanksgiving is cost affordable this year! There is $.50 NY Texas Toast coupons in 11/14 SS making them free for the sale this week. Homemade stuffing was never this cheap! We saved up the $1 off produce Target coupons and have fresh beans, carrots, and sweet potatoes for almost nothing, and no minimum to buy to use the coupon. My husband is amazed because I only started shopping Publix this year and what a year it has been!

      • Rachel Mark

yay thanks for the link! thats is great!

        • Nathalie

I love Publix. A lot of the Thanksgiving staples are B1G1

  2. Ashley H.

I think the best price of anything I came across was you could buy a turkey at bottom dollar food for $0.19 a pound!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Where did you find this at?

  3. Katie

Peapod for Turkey. .99/lb and they have a $9 off instant coupon. A 13.5 lb turkey for only about $4.

Facebook10 is a $10 off coupon code valid for everyone.

  4. Lisa

Canned pumpkin, definitely has to go below $1. Rite Aid had it 10/$10 a few weeks back, and 10/$6 after UPR. (Some people have been able to use the $1/2 Libbys canned fruit on this, but alas I could not!).

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Found it at Walgreen’s with Colin’s post for $0.49 a can after sale and coupon! I bought 4! Thanks Colin!

  5. stasiak613

Target had the frozen butterball turkey’s .88 cents a lb! I purchased a 20 lb turkey and used the $4 off a butterball turkey and 4 either stove tops stuffings, pillbury cresent rolls, or heinz gravy coupon… I bought 4 boxes of stove top at .79 cents a box using the buy 3 get 1 free coupon and using 2 buy 2 get .50 cents off I paid less $17 for a 20 lb turkey and 4 boxes of stove top! 🙂

    • Nicole

I did this deal as well. Meijer here in Michigan had turkeys and if you spent $20 in additional items you got $9 off, then I combined that with 4 cans of crescent rolls with .75cent coupons on them. (they were 4/$5 last week). So, my deal was
      Turkey $18, less $9 with $20 purchase = $9 take off $4 butterball coupon – $5 turkey!
      Crescent Rolls – $1.25 each x 4 = $5 – $3 in coupons = $2
      $7 for all that.

  6. Brie

Our FoodMaxx in Redding, Ca has Honey Suckle turkeys for thirty three cents a pound and after the $1 off one Honey Suckle turkey I got a fourteen pound turkey for $3.36!

    • Latasha

I’m in Cottonwood and shop in Redding! Hi!

  7. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Our local Pick n Save is offering turkey .48/lb with $25 purchase. I thought that was a good deal!

  8. Monica

For just a few that I can think of…
I have found that this is the time to stock up on anything baking…
    I found swanson’s chicken broth .25cents
turkey – .25 cents lb. (after a minimum purchase) we buy three turkeys at this time of year and cook later
nuts — bulk walnuts at $1.65 a pound —- wow!
carnation evaporated milk as low as .25 cents
green giant canned veggies – free
chex cereal – $1 or less
butter – $1.25 — wish it were less

    • Anonymous

Butter normally goes on sale at our Krogers–the small tub for $1. You can normally find coupons for $.35-$.40 off one. We buy our butter half dozen at a time for $.20 each after doubled coupons and freeze them. Cresent rolls typically go on sale for $1 each (free after double coupon or real cheap) and we buy them, take them out of the container, freeze them, and then refrigerate them day before use. No one in our family can tell the difference in taste on the butter or the rolls.

      • Susie

Butter or margarine? Butter in my area is around 1.99 a pound and there are rarely any coupons, whereas margarine is much more inexpensive and there are typically plenty of coupons. But there is a vast difference between the two products!

        • Anonymous

You are so right. I didn’t think about that when I posted. I use Land o Lakes butter, mostly the one with canola oil. It is the one in the link below. The last coupons I printed were from coupons.com. I alter stores sometimes. Target has been known to rarely print coupons and combining them with the printed ones I find, I use them at Publix to get them for almost free.
          https://www.landolakes.com/Products/Butter/

      • Beth

I never thought to take the rolls out of the container to freeze! Thank you for the idea!!!

    • Lola

What chicken broth for .25..wow. The cheapest in area is .50.

  9. Heidi

Sorry — don’t know where else to post this … but did anyone else get their “Tiny Prints Thanksgiving cards” yet? Just got them in the mail today and I couldn’t be happier (did NOT order 5000;))! I will DEFINITELY be ordering from them again! Thanks for posting that Collin – my family and friends will love them!

    • Lauren M.

YES I LOVE them!!! i ordered 8 and I can’t wait to get the phone calls of the ones I mailed (I also just got some sent here for the locals!). What amazing quality! Will def. order from them again

      • Natalie

I got a shipping confirmation today! I’ll be so excited to get them!

  10. Jenny Walz

I think that the mandrain oranges at Wags is a great stock up price at 0.39!! My DD eats these like crazy!!! I also agree with the baking, I stock up on lots!! Crico is one thing that I really stock up on now. The only time I have ever seen coupons for it, is this time of year, pair that with a sale and get all that I can!

  11. Colleen

land o’ lakes butter for $1.65/lb!!! i bought 10lbs for holiday baking, etc. 😀
    (it’s normally $4/lb)

    • beebs2010

Where did you buy it from. I thought I was getting a great deal on Land ‘o Lakes butter at Target. $2.50/lb. Used the $.55/2 coupon. Making them $2.23/lb. Man I (((HEART))) butter!!! LOL!

      • Megan

We can normally get butter for less than $1.50/lb here in MI when it is on sale with a 10/$10 or a buy 10 items to get a reduced price deal. That’s Land o Lakes butter too, not generic.

      • Colleen

Stop & Shop in CT. It was on sale for $5/2, plus 0.35 off each with the Scan-it order coupon, plus 0.50/2 coupons, which doubled. (I had 5 of them.) Figured that’s the best price I’ll see all year…

  12. Keely

I don’t know if it’s just around here (Denver area), but you can get a whole turkey for anywhere from $5-8 depending on the weight. I got a 15lb turkey for $6 at King Sooper’s. Usually it’s 4 or 5 for an up to 12lb, 6 or 7 for a 12.01-15.99lb, and 8 or 9 for a 16lb +.

It’s always before Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the first year we moved here I bought one on sale by the pound somewhere else and everyone who had lived her awhile was like, “Noooooooo!” Wait until just before! I got mine last week 🙂

    • Keely

Oh! Safeway does it, too, should have said that 🙂 They’re usually a dollar higher than King Soopers.

  13. Ann

I bought 2 13lb turkeys (one for $1.50 total; and the other for $1 total) and I am not even hosting Thanksgiving dinner. I had to purchase 10 cases of Coke for $2.80 each though in order to get the turkey deals. Luckily we needed to restock on soda so I purchased the turkeys. One of the turkeys will be for Christimas dinner. The other one I will cook and store the meat to use later.

    • Debora Boyd

This seems to be a common Coca Cola promo. The ‘kroger’ affliate here (utah) has $6 or $8 turkeys (hen or tom) and then if you buy just 5 coke 12packs at $2.80 each you get the turkey for $1 or $3. I did the target deal last week and paid $16 for a 22# butterball (happy!) but I’m buy one for a secret santa project from kroger.
FYI the private selection turkeys are FANTASTIC!!!

      • Andrea

Our Kroger store (Owen’s) had Jennie-O turkeys on sale for 68 or 69 cents per lb. last week. They ran out quickly and honored the promotion with Private Selection turkeys at the same price. I’m very pleased.

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Albertsons has Challenge Butter for $1.99. Use 0.75 off Q-will round to $1.00. OOP .99 for butter!

  15. Christine

Here if you spend 150 at Fred Meyers you can get up to a 20lb Turkey for FREE!!!

    • Rachelle

Got mine for free yesterday. Yippee. I love free.

  16. Jennifer M.

I’ll get any pie that is $2.99 or under…
    veggies .25/can or less

  17. Mary

I got a Jennie-O turkey at Wal-Mart for 37 cents a pound marked down from $1.25. I thought that was pretty good.
    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

  18. NightmareReader

Publix frozen turkeys are .59 per lb. The cheapest in Florida I’ve found. =-)

  19. Becky

If you go to SouthernSavers.com Jenny (the “blogger”) has a section on “Best Prices” per store all on one page.

  20. Heather

I live in MI and on one of the sites I visit it has a stock-up price list. i don’t know how close it is to prices in other areas, but it’s been a huge help for me. bargainstobounty.com -right hand side, click on Macomb Fresh Food Price chart. It doesn’t have pie or canned food, but it has meat and potatoes and such.

  21. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Kroger deals:
Pie crust: $2.50 for 2 pk. Pillsbury crusts, but buy 4 get 4 dollars off automatically, plus use 2 1.00 off coupons

    Canned ocean spray cranberries, $1

    Turkeys 25 cents a pound

    5lb bag sweet potatoes $2.99

Bread for stuffing, big bag $2.50

    Target:
    celery 99 cents
Apples for pie, if u use Honey Crisp (yummy) $1.69lb.

    Walgreens:
Canned mushrooms for stuffing .40 cents this week, no coupon needed

  22. Abigail Wichmann

Vons – $7 or $10 for 20-24 pound turkeys if you spend over $25. (in California)

  23. Meghann

HyVee has buy a Hormel Cure 81 Ham at $2.99 / lb get a turkey free (10-12 lb). I didn’t think that was a bad deal. I have some turkey eaters and some ham eaters so everyone can be happy. Target had turkey breast for .89 / lb. That is the cheapest I have seen it in the area!

  24. Candice

These are the best prices that I’ve found here in Central Texas:
Frozen Turkeys: .22 to .29 per lb
Campbell’s Cream of Chicken and Cream of Mushroom .50/can
    Campbell’s Turkey Gravy .50/can
    Carnation Evaporated Milk .50
Green Giant Frozen Boxed Veggies .88/box
Idahoan and Betty Crocker Potatoes .84 to $1/box or pouch
    Stovetop Stuffing .75 to .79/can
    Swanson Chicken Broth .50/can
Note that these are sale prices. I was able to score many of these items for pennies or even FREE after coupons since my Kroger doubles up to .50 and triples up to .39.

    • Candice

Oops . . Stovetop stuffing is supposed to say “box” – not can! Sorry.

  25. Shebella

Ingles has Honeysuckle turkey for .68 cents a pound. They avearge 8.50 to 10.00 each. This is a great deal for turkey.

  26. Neva

If you’ve spent a total of $300 at ShopRite since the beginning of October you can get up to a 21-lb turkey for free! If you don’t have a ShopRite card they’ll still give it to you, but you have to prove that you spent that much and get a card on the spot.

    • Melissa

just got my free turkey from Shoprite 🙂

    • Ashley B

I agree with Shorite. Also, Giant (in PA) offers Free Turkeys if you spend $300!

    • Sarah M

      I LOVE Shoprite!!!

  27. Melissa

Food lion near ft bragg NC has Butterball turkey’s for .89 a LB or they have a promotion going that if you buy $35 worth of thanksgiving products you pay .39 a LB for the Turkey… Not bad! Stack that with coupons you’ll be doing pretty good!

    • Jacquelyn

Ours was ANY $35 purchase. So we bought milk, mayo, basics and the stuff we needed for pumpkin pies from scratch – half of that stuff was cheap with sales + coupon match ups.

  28. Crystal

49 cents per pound for Turkey…although there were a couple of places that had it 39 cents per pound with a $35 purchase (I chose not to go that route because it wouldn’t have evened out). Stove Top: Use the $1 off 2 and 50 cent of 2 coupon at Target (one store and one manufacturer) for 4 cent boxes of Stove Top). There were Edwards Pecan Pies on sale for $2.99 at a few grocery stores as well. My mom is actually making dinner for all of us, but I picked up some of these cheap deals to have after the holidays.

  29. Renee L

Jennie-O turkies are $0.25/lb. at Kroger with $20 purchase…..This is in southeast Texas

    • Andrea

No deals that great in Indiana!

  30. Jacquelyn

Food Lion had that insanely cheap turkey, and most of the “staples” of Thanksgiving meals on sale anyway, so that’s where I got most everything. Check their coupon matchups, like on 30 dollar grocery challenge. I got my fried onions when Ingles had triples….. Canned veggies on sale at Ingles a while back, too. I bet most of you stockpile a lot of the stuff you need for Thanksgiving anyway! I do! 😉

  31. Alyssa

Hmmmm our turkeys are 1.25/lb and im not seeing any deals yet!

  32. Debora Boyd

Costco had the GIANT pumpkin pies for $5.99 which for the size was fantastic (didn’t come with a spoon or i’d have gotten that for lunch instead of the old chicken bake!)

Also if you are in midwest, there is a GFS (gordons food service) coupon for $5 off total bill on coupons.com under 48197 zip.

  33. Angela

I was happy with the .49 cents a lb that I paid for our turkey! For pumpkin, $1 a can is a pretty good price. Walgreens had it at that price a few weeks ago. If you like stuffing from a box, the commissary has it for a $1. Happy Thanksgiving!!

  34. Su

This is off the topic, but I was wondering what people’s price points were for stage 1 baby food and what stores they have seen the best prices. Thanks!!!!

  35. connieb

Colin…..I don’t know if you have a Wal-mart where you are but…I get all my grocery ads together and go thru them …I mark at the top the specials I want to get …then I go to Wal-mart and price compare….I get all the sales at 1 store….there is a couple things wal-mart won’t price compare with…that’s no b1g1 or no % off….so if there is something I want that is b1g1 or % off then I go to that store….I save loads of money in gas getting all my goodies at Wal-mart.

    • Tiphanie

Is that the regular walmart or the grocery store walmart?

  36. Sandy

If you have a Publix in your area, they are having really great sales right now on turkey and all of the Thanksgiving sides! Plus, there is a $5 off $50 coupon online and in their flyer this week. Some cashiers are letting you use $5 for every $50 you spend. I host a nice size for Thanksgiving…food for Thanksgiving AND extras such as diapers, wipes, cat food, toilet paper, etc. came out to $130. My savings after coupons and BOGO deals was $61.84! Definitely my cheapest Thanksgiving!

  37. Momster

WinCo has a spend $50, get your turkey (any size) for .29 cents/LB. We purchased a few other Thanksgiving meal items there & got our 16 LB turkey for less than $7!

  38. Chanelle

I shopped this past weekend for my Turkey Day ingredients. I am making 10 dishes…. 4 desserts and 6 other side dishes to accompany my dads wonderful turkey and dressing. On the list of over 30 items that I needed to these 10 dishes, I spent $55. That is with me using coupons of course. I purchased Carnation evaporated milk at Target for $.89 each, flour, b1g1free baby carrots, sou cream, etc at Publix. and the remaining items at Kroger. I did price compare ALL of the stuff that I needed at the 4 closest grocery stores to me. I would DEFF recommend creating a list of your ingredient needs, and then spend a few minutes going online and looking at the weekly ads for each store near you. It is VERY helpful and cost-effective!!!

  39. Marilyn

Bag N Save has turkeys for .33/lb. if you spend $25 and you receive a $5.00 coupon back at the register to use on your next shopping trip.

  40. mom23minis

Stater Bros here in Ca has the following that I can think of from yesterday

    Celery .99 a bunch
10lb bag of potatoes for .69
Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce .99 a can
Jennie O turkeys .39 per lb with $25 purchase
ButterBall Turkeys .89 per l with $25 purchase
    Land O lakes Margarine .49 a lb

  41. Tiphanie

Turkeys have been free here in az at safeway and albertsons with $100 purchase. Frys had Jennie-o turkeys for .29 cents a pounds when you buy $25 worth of groceries. I got a 16lb turkey for under $5.

  42. retireewannabe

Meijer (Michigan, OH, IN) has 16# and bigger turkeys $16 off w/ a $20 purchase. Smaller turkeys are $9 off w/ a $20 purchase. Sweet potatoes are 25 cents/lb. Stove Top is .99 a box. Pumpkin pies are $3.99 w/ a $10 purchase and they are the best by far! My 19+ lb. turkey was $7.87 or so.

  43. Treva

You have to buy $20 worth of food, but Albertsons here in North Texas have their Honeysukle turkeys for .29/lb, plus there is a $1.00/1 Honeysuckle coupon that was in last weeks Sunday paper.

  44. Lisa

i cooked my dinner yesterday, i got most of my items almost free by stocking up and couponing…….thank you collin………went back today for the target bargins spent 5.10 on 4 cans of cream of chicken or mushroom soup, two packs of cheese and got two dozen eggs, and some reeses cups.

  45. marissa

Not sure if anyone has a Copps near them but last week I got a 12lb Butterball turkey and four boxes of Stove Top Stuffing for $4.98 total.

I used my Turkeyperks (in-store promo) to get the turkey for $0.69/lb. I also used the $4 off Butterball WYB 4 Stovetop coupon, and two $1/2 Stove Top coupons. The Stove Top was 10/$10 last week, so free with the coupons on double-day. The register and cashier did not want to take the Butterball coupon combined with the Stove Top coupons, but I was able to get a manager to push them though. Even if you can’t get all these coupons and sales combined, even just one or two of them make a pretty good deal.

  46. Dorinne

There’s been a shortage on canned pumpkin in my area so the “buy it price” is any price we can find it at! LOL

  47. Ashley B

I was at Dollar Deals yesterday (used to be a Dollar Tree, but recently changed to Dollar Deals). They have $5 frozen turkeys!

  48. Becca

Most everything I need, with the exception of my turkey, dressing and fresh produce like sweet potatoes I have in my stock pile. I did get my turkey for .98/ lb and used the $4 off butterball with 4 product coupons. AND the cresent rolls had $1 off 2 coupon too! This time of year is perfect to stock up on can veggies and such though! Think can drives and such… one theater by me in MO has a can food drive and for every 10 cans you get a free movie ticket!

  49. Jenn B.

Chex mix at $0.50 a bag!! You need those snacks to lead up to thanksgiving dinner!
