Wow! Remember the Nielsen National Consumer Panel opportunities that I have mentioned in the past?! Well, check out this email from reader, Esther, to see how she just won $500 in the form of a Pre-Paid American Express card…

I have been learning so much from you blog and really appreciate your hard work. I wanted to tell you about the wonders that came in my mailbox yesterday because of you. I am a part of many survey places that you have recommended. Yesterday I received a product to try and I was so excited. Then I saw another mailing sent to me and I thought it was a credit card application. I decided to look and I had won a contest with my NCP scanning for $500. I was shocked and so excited. This is just from one day and is only a small example of how you have helped me. Thanks so much.

Congrats on your win, Esther! 🙂 Isn’t that awesome?! It just goes to show it IS possible to win BIG!

*If you are not familiar with the Nielsen National Consumer Panel (NCP), it focuses on measuring consumer attitudes and behavior. As a panel member, Homescan will provide you with a hand-held scanner. Every time you or members of your household shop, you’ll use the scanner to scan the barcodes on all of your purchases. Then, once a week, you’ll send them your purchase information. As a reward for doing so, you’ll earn gift points that are redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and more!

If you’re interested in becoming part of the Consumer Panel, then you’ll want to go on over here to sign up. Not all areas need Panel Members at this time, but it is still worth signing up as you may get entered into sweepstakes and possibly get lucky like Esther! 😀

  4. TXWife

Wow! Congratulations Esther! That’s incredible! Thank you very much for telling us about this Collin. 🙂 I signed up but got a message stating that they don’t need anyone for my area right now. Oh well..worth a shot! 🙂

    • Ashley

I received that same email when I signed up a while back but about 2 months ago they sent me another email saying there was an opening in my area and I would receive my scanner soon. I have been doing it for a few weeks now and so far it’s great! Congrats Esther!!

    • Esther

That is exactly what happened to me when I first signed up, but within 2 weeks, they said they wanted me to take part. Good luck.

  5. Ann

Thanks Hip to Save & Congrats Esther!!!!!

  6. Mallory Davis

    Congrats!!

They never are accepting from my area either. Boo… 🙁

  7. Michal David

I started with them 2 weeks ago and love it so far

    CONGRATS!!! 🙂

  8. Chelsey

It took me over a year to be accepted and I’ve been on the panel for about a year. I haven’t received anything yet but I’ll keep scanning and hoping.

  9. Julie S

    WOOHOO that is awesome!

Does anyone know the login site for this? I have signed up for so many I forget…but I am signed up for this but I can’t find the login…

    • Ashley

ncponline(dot)com but that may be the website dedicated to current members only. Worth a shot!

  10. Jocelyn

small town= you are not enough of a “consumer” to panel hahaha I buy EVERYTHING online and I shop? 24/7 :p

It’s funny because I hold an International Business degree and I am currently seeking employment ANYWHERE in the U.S. and have yet to receive any job offers.

I can’t even get a position on NCP lol

(I’m a positive person so to me it is funny not frustrating)

    • Jennifer

Try Kellogg at http://www.kelloggcareers.com. You can see all the nationwide postings. The corporate office is in Battlecreek, Michigan.

    • Robin

I’m from a small town too, at least in the form of commercialism. I’m part of the NCP. They ask you to scan and enter EVERY purchase, including online purchases, gas, fast food, groceries, clothing etc etc. No harm in trying!!

  11. Katyln

Not accepting in my area and I’m in UT.

    • Esther

I am in Utah too. They told me not eligible, but would let me know if a spot opened. Then two weeks later, I was asked to participate. Don’t give up.

  12. fran

    CONGRATULATIONS, ESTHER, THAT’S WONDERFUL…ENJOY!!!!!!

  13. Laura

For some reason, when I signed up, they sent me a confirmation email with a link that did not work? Tried resigning up just now, but it states that someone in my household has already joined. It is confusing

    • Maddie

This happened to me too 🙁

  14. memphica

i hope that the card is legit because the person who wrote congratuLations on the card does not know how to spell

    • Brandi

      I noticed that too! haha

  15. Olivia Smith

WOOHOO- they are never looking for people in my area! Congratulations, Esther!

  16. RobinD

CONGRATS! I am a member too, but I never win anything! BUT it is FUN to try!! GREAT WIN!!

  17. Shyla

I had signed up for this a few years ago and remember getting the same ” we are not accepting in your area” msg – I have since moved and was going to update my info, my thoughts maybe they would accept in my new area – but everytime I tried it said my email was already on file. When I called to inquire – The rep told me that it takes everyone about 8-10 weeks to be selected – so hang in there everyone – we still have a chance! (oh and they did not have me on file, but they had my email on file?? So I had to use a different email address to re-register… )

  18. Mary

It took me a year to finally get accepted. It is a bit of a hastle for what you get in return. However, I might feel differently if I get one of those in my mail! 🙂

    • kim

I agree about the hassle. Not worth it for me. But congrats Esther…….I’m happy to hear something good about that Co.

  19. Ashley

Pretty funny they spelled Congratulations wrong on the gift card!! 🙂

    • Esther

That is very funny. I didn’t even notice that (and I received it).

  20. Esther

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations. I hope big things come to all of you. I really couldn’t have gotten this (plus lots of other great knowledge and deals) if it wasn’t for Collin and this blog. Thanks again, Collin.

  21. Smitha

    Wow. Congrats Esther!

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

so, do you scan the items you bring home or do it at the store? sorry for the stupid question…

    • Donna

You scan when you get home. For some stores you have to input the price and some you don’t. Then after you’ve scanned it all they ask you for your total spent.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        thank you, donna…

      • Ann

I take my scanner with me to the grocery for my regular shopping trips since it would be too much for me to remember to enter when I get home (if on sale, coupon source, coupon value, etc.). The company supplies the battery so I find this so much easier. I scan as I put the item into my cart and usually can enter the other info one-handed as I go down the isles. Doesn’t take much time at all. For smaller trips (CVS, Walmart, etc.), I just scan as soon as soon as I get home as these are easier to enter and remember. My husband is also good about entering his own purchases, only not as fast (he usually asks questions as he does it). I have been a member for about 10 years and have even used my points to purchase gifts over the years. The amount of points you earn per transmission increases the longer you are in the program.

  23. Whitney

    Congrats, Esther! Way to go!

  24. jenbaileywade

I am a panelist and haven’t scanned for a few weeks since we moved and I’ve yet to set my scanner back up. I haven’t decided if it is worth the effort yet and I’ve been doing this for about 6 months. I also got blocked out of my account online to access the surveys and haven’t had a chance to call their customer service line to get my account unblocked. congrats esther for your prize! maybe that’ll help motivate me to decide whether I’m going to keep doing it or send my scanner back.

    • Kari H.

Same thing happened to me….After a couple of months, I couldn’t ever get back into my account. It was too much of a hassle for me so I recently sent mine back.

  25. Heather

Well, I guess that will motivate me to keep scanning. It’s nice to know that some people actually win stuff. Companies promise that all the time, but who actually checks to see that they do! Way to go!

  26. Marie

Congrats! I hope someday I get something out of this. I have been doing it for a little over a year now (scanning for NCP) and doing all the surveys and I have around 32,000 points. The only thing I really wanted (from the rewards catalog) is a Keurig coffee maker and it’s around 100,000 points (or a little over can’t recall). At this rate it will be YEARS before I can get it (if it’s even still around by then). I’m not sure it’s worth the time unless you win something like this. It’s not hard to do the scanning or take the surveys, it just takes time. I almost quit recently because it seems like it takes forever to get anywhere!

    • Stacy

I agree! It seems like anything that I would want or need is an outrageous amount of points. I have been doing it for a little over a year as well and am almost over it. Just got a little yellow postcard in the mail to remind me I haven’t scanned in awhile. I hope this motivates me!

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Congratulations! I love reading stories like this! I am a panalist too! I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to win so it’s nice to read stories like this. It made me get my scanner out and scan today!

  28. schettlesl21

The link to sign up isn’t working for me… does anyone have a link that would work??

  29. Jason

yup the link is no longer active. Anyone have another way to gt there

  30. julie

I have been a member of NCP for awhile now too and have always wondered if there were winners out there! This is so nice to hear! Congrats Esther! Keep on scanning!

  31. klparke01

Looking for a working link…I’d like to see if they need anyone in my area. 🙂

  32. bentleymommy

Link does not work for me to sign up…

    • Gabriella

Just go to the ncponline.com I was able to sign up there!

  33. Hollie

I signed up for this like 6 months ago and just got my scanner last week. I think it’s kind of fun to scan stuff but I have to get used to not taking anything out of the bags until I get home!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m having fun with it so far, though I realize it will be a very slow process. They send me a nice blue reusable tote a few weeks ago, and they even sent me a corded phone for transmitting because they did not have one. Customer service is so nice. I’ve only been in about 2 months. Congrats to you!

  34. Deb

I was a part of the program but ended up returning their equipment.
If you have a full-time job or jsut a busy life, this is very difficult to follow thru with, entering every single purchase. And it was next to impossible to monitor DH’s items.
I’d rather spend what little spare time I have keeping up with the deals at my stores. (LOL-like I actually HAVE spare time).

And if you’re like me, and consistently buy mulitple items all the time with your Q’s, it grows old really quick, scanning each item & catagorizing it.

    • kim

I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. agree with you on ALL of that! It was really quite difficult and you don’t seem to get much out of it. I have a huge family and buy tons of items. Thought I would be able to help them. Turned out that it was way too much trouble and I sent it back. I wouldn’t suggest it.
      Only My opinion!

  35. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    not working. boo 🙁

  36. Andrea

The link isn’t working… How do I sign up?

  37. tritter72

Congratulations! That is some good mail! 🙂

I love NCP. I’ve been doing it for many years now and really enjoy redeeming for different prizes. I have gotten many things for my kids for free, and even a few things for myself.

  38. Valerie B.

I just got a $25 card in the mail today! I’ve been scanning for about 6 months. When I first signed up there weren’t any spots open, and then I got my scanner 3-4 months later. It does take a bit of time to enter all of the items, but the little rewards like this make it worth it! The card will make a nice date night for the hubby and me!! 🙂

  39. jussss

I just tried and was told someone in my house already registered…lol….never heard of the web site until today!
