Oops! We made a mistake.

For a period of time, the description on our website said that we were selling a “set of 18” votive candles for $1.99, when, in fact, it should have said “one” votive candle for $1.99. When word got out, orders took off and far exceeded the quantities that were available for sale. Clearly, this is our mistake and we are going to fulfill your order. The only problem is that we need a little time. We are working closely with Yankee Candle to get these candles made and sent to us. As soon as we know how long that will take, we will send you an update. If, however, you would prefer to cancel your order, please email us at customer.service@bedbath.com.

OK, so I just heard word that Bed, Bath & Beyond had a misprint in their sales ad and accidentally stated that the Yankee Candle 18 count votives are on sale for $1.99 instead of $19.99 – Big difference, I know! But reportedly, they’re actually honoring the price online! So head on over here to score 18 Bahama Breeze Votives for just $1.99 + $5.99 shipping.

    I just ordered 8 sets. Gulp! Will I be overwhelmed? A couple dozen are for my mother-in-law and using them for my baby shower favors in a couple months as well. LOVE IT!

    OMW! I don’t need candles either but I love burning them. I just ordered 4 sets (72 votives) for $14.79 shipped. That is an amazing price! Thank you Collin for all your hard work! I am wearing a pair of slippers that I bought from The Foundary. They were listed as $26.99 but with my $25 credit that I got a while ago I paid $7 shipped. Awesome deal!

      If that happens, I will for sure blame the people that bought 10 cases of the candles. Geez! And I’m sure these are the same people that gripe about people cleaning shelves at stores.

    Well, I succumbed to the deal! Last night I was in the checkout process and stopped short of ordering. I tried to be strong as I kept telling myself “you are not saving money by spending money!” The offer was just too good! I love Yankee candles. I got up this morning and checked and there it was. Just waiting for me to place my order. What could I do? It was still available! Just had to do it! Ordered 2 sets and received a confirmation email. However, I will not be surprised to get a cancellation email soon. Too many people ordered large quantities which will surely kill the deal. At the bottom of the email confirmation it states:

    Bed Bath & Beyond reserves the right to hold any order
    for a security review. If your order is affected you will
    be notified within three business days.

    So we shall see! Hope we get them!

    I just called BBB and was told they were canceling orders as the price was to be $1.99 per candle, and it was a mistake on the website. Wish they would have just chosen to honor the orders instead *sigh*

    Doesn’t anyone think this is stealing. It was obviously a misprint on their part. It’s no different than someone writing a check for $1000 when they MEANT to write $100 then asking the bank not to honor the amount written. It seems many took advantage of BB&B.

      Besides the fact that I am sure BBB is still making money on the orders even at .19 a candle………ummm NO this is not stealing! By definition in criminal law stealing or theft is taking property without the other party’s freely-given consent. If Bed Bath and Beyond freely consents to honor that price even if it was a mistake then it is not stealing. The store does not, and sounds like will not honor that price.

    but when I checked on the order status the Pink Sands has changed to Votive Candle. It is completely wrong for them to change the order without contacting me first. As far as “cheating” bed bath and beyond…give me a break have you seen most of their prices?? This was a published price…do you always go around questioning sale prices? Trust me they are making a profit. Sometimes companies like this sell things really cheap just to get people in their store to buy other things.

      I will LAUGH LAUGH LAUGH so hard if all you get is one votive candle for $1.99 plus your $5 shipping. Serves you right for being gluttonous. No, it’s not “stealing” but it’s some pretty shady morals. Justify it however you want to, but you know those candles cost more than $.19 each. Rationalizing it by saying that all their stuff is overpriced is a stupid argument…behavior like this, which costs the retailer money, only keeps their prices higher.

        This was a published price…have you heard of bait and switch?? There are states in which by law they have to sell the items at the published price or pay the consumer back the difference plus an added percentage. The shady part is them changing my order after it was placed. I hadn’t ever bought Yankee candles from them (or anyone) and didn’t know how much the 18 packs went for originally. I just saw this deal and went for it so don’t question my morals. It isn’t unheard of for a company to offer good deals like this. Is it stealing when people use coupons and get back more than the product cost them? I don’t think so.

        This could have been a clearance price.

        You are basically saying we all have poor morales because we took advantage of a deal? Pretty harsh way of putting it! Just see it for what it is. The candles were marked at a reduced price, we all stocked up on a good deal. We all know now for sure that it was a misprint, but by law they have to honor that price. If not, it would be considered false advertising.

    Earlier today, I checked my order online, and it still said “set of 18”. Now it has changed to 1 candle. I called, and the rep said that it was a price mistake, so they were just changing the orders to 1 candle each. He also said that they were going to contact people before they shipped to make sure they still wanted them. I asked him to cancel my order, and he said he would send it to the cancellation dept., but I was told that they won’t send a cancel confirmation email. He said to call back in 24 hrs. to make sure it was canceled. Doesn’t seem quite right somehow…..

      I just received an email saying it was their mistake and they are going to fill the order, it just may take longer because they are out of the product.

      THe email that I received doesn’t say that they are going to give us all 1 votive. It says that they are going to honor our orders. They have to wait to fulfill them because they got so many orders.

    It’s very nice of them to honor the price, but I think I’ll just leave mine canceled and then there will be more to go around ;o)

    I also got that email and chose to cancel the order because I’m not going to cash in on an honest mistake on their part. A good business will allow you to place the order and honor their price, but a good consumer will forgive the mistake and not take advantage.

      Nice to see this sort of consumer behavior as compared to some of the other justifications I am reading on here. It’s amazing the percentatge of people on here who must have never made a mistake…that’s the only reason I can think of for them all being so greedy and unforgiving about the mistake of a staff member at this retailer.

      Oh, and I like how some folks on there turn their greedy behavior around and blame it on others not getting a deal. Deflecting the criticism from yourself doesn’t change your disgusting behavior.

      Absolutely. They know if they did not honor that price due to their mistake, they would lose customers. I am a business owner and that is seen as good business. What will happen is, we will freely give them as gifts. Those who receive them may of never used a Yankee Candle before. Well, after smelling them they will be sold and find out where we got these awesome candles from. They will be willing to pay full price.

      That is the thought process behind giving away thousands of free samples of an item. They take a loss upfront but in the end it is actually a cheaper way of advertising than television and there will be no returns due to disappointed customers because they have already tried the product.

    As far as the stealing comments…..this was a mistake on the company’s part. We know that NOW! But, as a thrifty shopper who always looks for deals, I have certainly paid cents for things that were once marked A LOT higher! Sometimes, it’s how stores get you in to buy more! They candles are WAX!!! How many of us have bought an 18 pack of CRAYONS for a few cents in August, when the back to school sales start?

    I wouldn’t have been mad if they said that they made a mistake and could not honor it. But, WOW! BB&B has certainly impressed me! I will certainly be a loyal customer to them now!

    I received the email yesterday from BB&B regarding honoring the price, but today I noticed that they reversed the payment transaction and it no longer shows in my account…HMMMM!!

    Received the same email everyone else did saying they would honor their mistake. However, today when I checked my BB&B order history they have changed my order to 3 single votives. I took a screen shot of my original order so they cannot claim that is what I originally ordered. Hope they don’t send me three singles. I would not be happy.

    Just got this email today….

    As promised, here’s an update on your Yankee Candle order.

    Based on the latest information that we received from Yankee Candle, we expect to ship your order within approximately 4-5 weeks. In order to fill all of the outstanding orders, Yankee Candle will be making multiple shipments to us. We will fill orders as the candles arrive but please don’t be concerned if you hear that others have received their candles before you do.

    Also, please note that when you receive your shipment confirmation, the quantity indicated on this confirmation will reflect only one votive, even though we will actually be shipping a box of 18 votive candles.
