Cool, thanks! I’m still a coupon newbie and I’ve realized that if I want to take advantage of these scenarios you post I’ll have to do it within a day or two, or else all those coupons I printed or gathered to fit it just end up a big confused mess–and so do I! LOL.

I’m still trying to get to Target for the Dove deoderant deal.

So, do you recommend once in a while looking through all your coupons, pulling out all the coupons for non-perishables that don’t exclude travel sizes and just running to Target or Walmart and see how many you can get for next to nothing?

Somehow I’ve accumulated a two inch stack of coupons for soaps, shampoos, etc., plus a binder full of coupons, in just two months. I’ve had the epiphany that I need to approach shopping differently when using coupons. I used to look for the best price per ounce which often meant buying giant bottles. But using coupons you actually try to look for the smallest or cheapest container and then use the coupon to get the lowest price overall. Right? Or am I thinking about this all wrong?

Thanks for all your hard work! And thanks to anyone who responds to me with advice. 🙂

      Hi Anna,
Welcome to Hip2Save and welcome to the couponing world 🙂
It’s probably best, when you print or clip a coupon, to put those coupons in an envelope or a special place in your binder for each store that you shop. So if you shop at CVS and a couple grocery stores, make categories for each store, and as soon as you find a coupon for that store, put it in that category slot. You don’t want to get overwhelmed with a pile of coupons and not know which coupon goes with which store.
I also suggest not to try to get every deal at every store. The deals will always come around again.
You are right about getting the smaller size of a product, to get the best deal. As long as the coupon doesn’t state that it is for a specific size, you can get the trial or travel size.

        Thanks so much, Fran!

          My pleasure, Anna!

Fran gave great advice – especially about not trying to get every deal, especially when you are starting out. You can drive yourself crazy trying to do them all.

What I do is to leave the coupons in the circular – I write the date on the front, and keep them in a drawer until it’s time to clip the coupons for the coming week. Since Collin is so great about telling which circular the coupon is in, I can go right to it, and not get overwhelmed with too many coupons. Then I print the list for each store (click the little printer icon at the top of each post, and you can “cross out” any items or info you don’t need, and print out your personal list) and I tuck just the coupons for that store and the list in an envelope. Then, when I am at the store, I have everything together, and I’m not digging through my organizer, even though I carry it with me for deals I wasn’t expecting, like clearance merchandise.

I would also make a list of items that you should never pay for! Toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash (never more than 50 cents), eye drops, dish soap, pantiliners, etc. That was my biggest downfall at the beginning. I though 50 cent toothpaste and $1 body was was a deal. No, it’s not! :o)

Could you do the last scenerio without the coolwhip and make the final total $15.98? I wasn’t sure whether the cool whip was attached to any coupons.

    • Mackenzie F

Never mind…I see what happens now 🙂

      • katrina

I dont see what happens? Why do you have to get the cool whip?

        • Kristen

You don’t have to but it’s free so why not.

  3. libby

My region got a $.20/2 kraft marshmallows today along with the hershey and honey made.

Thanks to the awesome manager at my Walgreens I tried the Kraft RR deal all different ways this morning in Utah. Register Reward did not print.

    • Theresa

The RR did not work for me either, but I think it was because I purchased the mayo with olive oil. It is also on sale, but not pictured in the ad. Oh, the Country Time and Kool-Aid rang up at sale price without the coupon.

      • Toni S.

It didn’t work for me either. I really don’t think it was because of the mayo with olive oil. It appears not to be working on a lot of different combinations.

I just got from Walgreens. I took the Walgreen’s ad from today’s SS (opposite the Hersey’s & Honey Maid coupons) in with me and showed them the RR deal. I got the song and dance about it being because total was below $15 after coupons, but they did give me $3. If you did not receive your RR, go back and explain that it was in today’s SS and it stated “when you buy $15 of participating Kraft Food products below”. It said buy not spend. Hopefully your store will be as nice about as mine was.

On a different note but still about Walgreens, today the clerk told me they are going to change the way Walgreens’s does coupons and their register rewards starting in August. Has anyone else heard this?

    • Kristen

I don’t know anything about that but I did hear that they are supposedly filming an episode of Extreme Couponing at Walgreens. I can see them changing their policy to eliminate the best deals.

  7. Beth Anne

Okay I might totally CONFUSE everyone but that Nabisco deal..I have a bunch of target coupons as well as manuf. for the chocolate does anyone know if you’ll get a better deal by going to target for the graham crackers? I guess then you don’t get the $2 rewards….but I may not have to spend as much out front..

  8. Krista

I have found that the Walgreen’s monthly RR deals do not actually start until that month – so this one will probably have issues until July 1st. Just my experience. It’s frustrating that the monthly deals aren’t listed anywhere, so when you have to discuss it with an employee or manager, they have no idea what you’re talking about.

  9. nej

I just tried to do this deal, and no RR came out…and there wasn’t any documentation of this deal at Walgreens. I bought 2 6-pack hershey’s, 2 honey maid grahams, and 3 packs of marshmallows for a total of 17.91… Where did you get the info on this deal, Collin? I’d like to go back and get the items if I can get the RR. Thanks!

  10. Tracy

Where is this advertised? I would like some proof before I go in. Also is there a limit on the RR? Our local IGA store has manufacturer coupons for $2.00 off wyb hershey’s, kraft marshmallows, and honey maid graham crackers together and a $1 off miracle whip in their ad this week. Making this deal an awesome deal for me if the RR works. Definitely my stock-up prices.

I’m not understanding the cool-whip portion of the deal either?

  11. alterkate

I tried this today and it didn’t work. We couldn’t find proof anywhere that this was a deal going on now. It wasn’t in my ad for 6-26 here in Grand Rapids, MI. So make sure you have proof before you try it!
