* If you are a newbie to Walgreens shopping, make sure to check out my Walgreens Store guide. …And if the coupon jargon below starts to confuse you, take some time to read through the Coupon Newbie section.

As most of you know, Walgreens released a corporate coupon policy a couple months ago… finally! You can view the policy here. Be sure to print a copy and bring it with you when you shop in case any issues should arise. You can also now print Walgreens Instant Value Coupons online here. *NOTE: If you can find the monthly coupon booklet in-store, save your printer ink.

I am new to Walgreen’s since we just found one nearby. I am very good at CVS and Rite Aid and wondered if the RR are just like ECB’s or Up rewards? Thanks

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      yes they are

    • Lindsey

They are a little trickier than CVS or Rite Aid. Make sure you read Collin’s guide to Wags up at the top. You need fillers, etc to pay with RR’s, you can’t buy two of the same products in one transaction and get two RR, etc. It can be confusing. Just make sure you read Collin’s guide and you will be fine. 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, they work the same way. Only thing to worry about w/ Walgreens is there is an item to coupon ratio. And your RR will not roll – meaning, if you purchase a qualifying RR item w/ a RR of the same Manufacturer, the RR will not print 🙂 ENJOY!

    • dan

The rr are like the others, but, they are manufacturers coupons and you can only use 1 per item. So you end up spending more money out of pocket.

    • Carol_R

They’re not the same at all. They’re not considered register rewards but Manufacturer coupons. And you can’t roll them. You also can’t get more than 1 for the same deal during the same transaction.

For example if CVS or RiteAid has a limit or 2 or 4 on a deal you can do up to the limit in 1 transaction and all of the register rewards will print out on your receipt. With Walgreens you would only get 1.

Also, you cannot use a register reward from the same manufacturer on a deal that is producing register rewards and expect to get any. For example, if you have a Walgreens register reward from P&G, you cannot use to buy P&G products that would product a register reward.

The biggest issue for me is that Walgreens treats these not as register rewards but manufacturer coupons. For example, if you’ve got 3 Walgreens register rewards ($2, $3, $1) and you want to purchase only 1 item that costs $7 you can’t use them all where you could in both CVS and RiteAid. Walgreens requires that you cannot have more manufacturer coupons for a transaction than items and they treat their register rewards as manufacturer coupons. So if you were trying to use a real manufacturer coupon on that 1 item you couldn’t use any of their register rewards and if not then only 1 of them.

To get around this, people buy filler items (cheap stuff that doesn’t have a manufacturer coupon). In the above example to use all of the 3 register rewards when purchasing 1 item where you had a real manufacturer coupon for that item would require purchasing 3 other “filler” items. You end up getting gypped out of part of your register reward because of this in my opinion. And then if that 1 item that you wanted to purchase would product a register reward you’d also couldn’t use any of register rewards that were from the same manufacturer.

I’ve given up on Walgreens except for their sale items that don’t produce register rewards.

      • APRIL

Me too, RR are more of a headache than anything. I rarely end up buying much from Walgreens.

        • Lpmousse

Hmmmm . . . I love Walgreens! I like how I can buy as many of any item as I want, and my Wags is really good about letting me break up things into different transactions to make the most of my savings. Thanks Walgreens on the corner of Naperville and East Loop in Wheaton, IL!

CVS is a pain in the rear in my area, though they’ve acted nicer in the past few months.

    • kari

I dont know if this has been stated or not – however – the CVS extra care bucks are pretty much the same – yes BUT you can only use them at CVS. The Register Rewards are printed through a different company and can be used to purchase products are walgreens or Jewel to buy grocery’s. This is how many of us get free groceries.

  2. Michelle

Thank you Collin! You make couponing so easy!!!

    • Collin

      You are most welcome! 😀

    • Bessie

      I AGREE!!! Thank you Collin

  3. ricks48038

The Walgreens case of bottled water is $1.99 with in-ad coupon, limit 3, at least for metro Detroit…

    • Shayla

same with Columbus OH. must be regional =)

  4. KJ

I am very impressed that you are on the Hip 2 Save Tour and you are still keeping us informed. Unbeliveable your spunk and spirit…hope all is going well you are doing such great things

    • Collin

Everything is going great! I am tethering my iPhone to my laptop while we drive down to Atlanta… don’t want you all to miss the weekly deals! 😉

And thanks so much for the support!

      • brandyhill

You are so awesome! Thank you for everything you do!!!!

  5. Zack

The P&G Everyday Savings Booklet expired 6/30 right? If so the gain freebie deal would be a no-go.

    • Collin

Oopsie! You are correct… lemme go remove that deal!

      • MR

My June P&G book expires on 7/31. I don’t have a Gain coupon in it though. I wonder if that means it is regional, and I won’t get a new one this week. I didn’t get a paper yet.

  6. Jennifer

Is it true that you can use Walgreen’s RR at Meijer Grocery Store? I heard that somewhere but I haven’t asked or tried it yet.

    • Lindsey

They normally work without beeps at the self checkout.

    • Couponmickey

I always use them at Meijer. My Meijer and Wags are across the street from each other. I go to Wags, then go to Meijer afterwards. I don’t have to worry about my RRs expiring that way and I keep my oop down, too. 🙂

    • Annette

I used them at Meijer this week, for the first time, and had NO problems…it was very cool!

    • Shayla

they may work but my local grocier said they are not suppose to take them but if your Meijer CS says it’s okay, go for it!

      • LILY

HAS ANYONE TRY TO SEE IF WALMART TAKES THEN, THERE NEW COUPON POLICY SAY THEY’LL TAKE ANY MANUFACTURE COUPONS AND THE RR’S DO SAY MANUFACTURE COUPONS

        • Mitchell Wischmann

Walmart’s coupon policy does say they do not accept Register Rewards. They do not accept checkout coupons for dollars/cents off the entire basket purchase, which is what a Register Reward is.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Walmart doesn’t take RR’s. Clearly stated in their coupon policy.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome!! I had no idea I could use Wags RR’s at Meijer. Love the site and all the great info.

    • Jennifer

You guys are all the best – thanks for sharing!!!

      • saira

i use it at jewel osco cause they have some nice deals too

    • Lisa

Just be careful that some of the new RR are printing with “Redeemable ONLY at Walgreens” on them. I just got a RR like that last week. I was disappointed because I had JUST figured out how to use them at my local grocery store. 🙁

  7. Tiffany

Yeah, would you hurry up and get the other stores up. I mean really! JUST KIDDING. I am so shocked that you are doing the matchups even with all you are doing staying busy with the TOUR. Take care and God Bless. Thank you for all you do!!!

    • Collin

      😉

  8. fabiola

some pretty good deals this week. I especially like the bandaid and neosporin since I have a 4 & 2 yr old I will definetely need these. lol. Also cheap soda for 4th of July.

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

On the CVS postings, the comments are closed! 🙁 I love to see what others find at WG and CVS! Also not gas card deal! One of my favorite CVS postings!!! 🙁

Sorry to be so demanding! Really, can’t you do the Hip To Tour and post at the same time on lap top and phone????????????????????

    Happy touring!

    • Collin

Sorry about that… just fixed it to allow comments!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Sorry my posting sounded a little nagging and unappreciative! I appreciate all you do. It sounds like you are an octopus right now with 8 arms.

I can figure a gas deal myself. Just like these deals in particularly myself!

        Happy touring! 🙂

    • Collin

And I also want to let you know that the gas scenario and rebate offer is now there! 🙂 I didn’t save it properly when I first posted.

  10. Lpmousse

You are so amazing Collin! Thanks for making couponing so easy. You’re my coupon hero!

For the band aid and neosporin deal i calculated it to be $2.48 for both. How did u get $1.98 for both?

      • shan

        Agree with Fallon’s calculation.

        • Bargain Finding Mama

          as do I

  16. mel

Last week, when I bought the cottonelle wipes, a $1 off any Puffs tissue printed from the cat machine! And my mom gave me another one from her shopping trip. WooHoo for Free tissue!!

  17. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

On the Gilette deals with the “buy $20 worth of products, get $5 RR” – is the $20 calculated after the Walgreens sale price? For example, some venus products are BOGO 50% off. But for calculating to the $20, does it count the full price before the 50% off discount? Or does it only count what you actually spent before Manufacture’s coupons?

    • Carol_R

It counts before coupons. It would be the full price of the 1st item and then 50% of that for the 2nd item. The $ limit you need to reach though is calculated before you give them your coupons.

Probably going to answer my own question – thinking the BOGO items are not included in the buy $20 worth of select items…

  19. eaglemichie

    @Trish,
I’m with you. I check the site atleast 4-5 times per day. She’s that good. Thanks Collin!

    • super cheapo

happy to know i’m not the only hip2save addict…I check four times a day while i’m nursing my little one…the staples deal on toliet paper turned my birthday that started off really bad into a VERY pleasant evening….geesh..does cheap toliet paper Really make me happy? hehe ..Why yes…yes, I guess it does! 🙂 Thanks Collin!

    • Carol_R

I try to check even more than that if I can.

I love that she puts up other deals besides just coupons. A lot of those go really fast, especially when there are limited prints for new printable coupons released.

  20. dr_beanz

Totally OT, but does anyone know a good online place to snag deals on pajamas? I recently learned I am going to have to room with a co-worker for a week in a hotel room, and honestly my current pj’s are sad, but I don’t want to spend a ton. Thanks for any ideas.

    • cats' paws

I am sure there are tons of online places, but one that I get good prices at is http://www.blair.com
Check out their clearance section too. If you’re female dr_beanz, the nightshirts (the long t-shirts) would be ideal for that upcoming situation and later, after that trip, they are ideal for lounging around the house. Good luck!

    • cats' paws

Don’t know why this didn’t post before—-I am sure there are tons of online places to buy pj’s, but a good place with good prices is http://www.blair.com Be sure to check out their clearance section too. Not sure if you are female dr_beanz, but a good idea would be the nightshirts (long t-shirts) as after your trip, these are great for lounging around the house, so not a waste of your $$. Good luck!!

  21. Mitch

    Off! Mosquito Repellent spray!
It’s as if they knew my son had his first camp sleepover this coming week and this is the first thing on the list of things they must bring!
    And there’s a coupon!
    thanks,

  22. Taryn

Maybe I’m still stuck in high school, but the Extenze deal in light of all the free K-Y lately, made me giggle…

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Ha me too 😉

      • melissa

I was curious if they run out of it, if they will offer condoms or a pregnancy test in its place! lol

        • Beth

          🙂

    • Carol_R

It reminded me of all the disgusting spam I used to get offering those types of products as well as Viagra.

  23. Laurie

Taryn’s comment made me giggle. I saw the Extenze and thought “there’s some free things that I just don’t feel the need to try…”

  24. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    • Camille

Is the $1 coupon you get on the big bag kicked out at the register?

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

yes mam it kicks out a 1.00 coupon at the register as soon as it is scanned for a dollar off tostios lays kettle chips or sun chip the tosttitos are 1.99 with in ad coupon minus the .55 cent coupon from rp coupon code 5319 and 1.00 from the 99 cent bag makes them .54 cents and the ad states limit 3 so buy 3 .99 cent bags seprately so u get each coupon cashier may let u get more depedning on stock ends tommrow they go two for five after tommrow the deal works i did it today 5 times hehe and paid .14 cents for each bag

  25. Daniela

Can’t we use the save $ 5 on bengay cold therapy on this sale?

    • Carol_R

The picture in the Walgreens circular has the Cold Therapy pictured so I believe that you can.

    • Lora

My walgreen’s had the cold therapy for $9.99 so with the other one 50% off I ended up using the 2 $5 off cpns along with a $5 register reward and got them all for free (of course I had to have a filler item)

  26. Daniela

Well the way you worked the bengay deal will work better anyway! I just heard about your site last week, and I’m addicted!!! Thank you for a wonderful job, and for being a beautiful person!

  27. daniel.brunk@ymail.com

Thanks Collin! Much appreciated coupon matches!

  28. julissa

hey their is a $1/2 DYNAMO, AJAX . FINAL TOUCH OR NIAGARA PRODUCTS i think is from 6/12

  29. Tina

    Hello Collin,
You are doing awesome things! Have u considered ALABAMA for your Hip 2 Help Tour. We have the hands and feet. We could actually do a tour for u. However, we would need your expertise with supplies. Let me know if you are ever interested.
    You are appreciated.
    Tina

  30. Carol_R

I feel sorry for anyone who actually paid full price the Gillette Proglide razor. It seems like they’ve had deals for the last couple of months that with coupons you could get these for $1 or less.

    • lauraleone

I shudder to think about before I started couponing. As I remember I paid about $30 for a large pack of refills!

      • Beth

Amen to that! It kills me all of these deals that I wish I would have known when I first got marries!!

    • kristen

Seriously…Is it bad that I actually cringed at the 99 cent price for July? LOL, they’ve been 89 cents since may…oh well..i still have lots of that coupon and they are my husbands favorite so I will continue to buy 1 a week this month as well until I run out of coupons 🙂

  31. mamabug

Thankfully there is nothing I want this week. 🙂 I like weeks like that. I’m stocked up on everything to the point that buying any more just doesn’t make sense as we have enough to last a good year. I still get excited to see the weekly match ups though. LOL

On the Duracell deal… the register has been spitting out catalina coupons for $4 off any 6 count or higher Duracell for the past couple of weeks. I got my 3rd coupon today and picked up my 3rd package of 10 batteries for $1.99 after coupon! Its not free, but in my area you can’t beat 30 AA batteries for $6!

    • jkateb

Do you know what has been triggering the catalina for the Duracells? Is it when you buy Duracells or something else? I need batteries – – thanks!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i think it random but i think it help if u buy png items it seem to go crazy with the png products

  32. joeywishtoo

If someone else posted this one, I’m sorry for the repeat….
Aussie & Herbal Essences products on sale for $3 each
    Coupon in 7/3 P&G:
Buy an Aussie or Herbal Essences product & get one free.
    Final cost – $3.00 (or $1.50 each)
Just went this morning & got this deal. 🙂

  33. Kelly

I was just at Walgreens and did the bandaid/neosporin deal…..of course the wound cleanser was $5.29 at my store and the cheapest bandaids were $3.49. I realized after I checked out that it didn’t take the $2 store coupon off of the bandaids so I went back in and the $3.79 bandaids took off the $2. So I paid $3.58 for the bandaids and neosporin wound cleanser…I guess that’s still pretty good!

    • Camille

The register took off the $2 on Neosporine, but not on Bandaids for me. I looked at the receipt before leaving the store as my total seemed high, so the manager adjusted it. Bandaids were $2.99 at my store. I had $.50 coupons from the Sunday Supplement, so I got them for $.50.

      • kristen

same with me it only took the $2 off once. I had lots of problems with todays trip. it’s my favorite super coupon friendly store, but they have one employee who is an older gentleman who does not speak english, and since they got the new scanners he usually doesn’t scan coupons right and they beep, and because of the language issue I can never seem to explain to him that the coupon is okay, and he can’t read them because they are in english. it’s frustrating, usually the manager will handle it, but it seems they were really understaffed today and i was holding up the line. i’ll go back later in the week and try to clear it all up.

  34. Sunflower

Awesome deal on batteries. Haven’t gotten the Catalina but will be on the lookout.

  35. Sunflower

Btw, did you buy batteries originally to get the catalina?? Thx.

  36. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

The unadvertised deal on the Fiber One bars did not work for me this morning. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

  37. stacia

I have three of the duracell cats! Im excited to use them thiis week. I did not buy batteries originally to get it. Yesterday i bought carefree, crunch bars and pringles and got the duracell cat.

  38. tashashayla

I work at Wags, and you can get that Duracell catalina coupon when you pick up your photo order too.

  39. Laurie

At my Walgreens, the Oral-B Complete Advantage MEDIUMS are ringing up $2.19. My total was $.39, and I got a $1 RR. That’s a $.61 MM!

  40. Susan

I found a great deal today at Walgreens. Expo dry erase markers were on sale for $1.99 (4 pack) and I had 2 coupons for $2.00 off any size package (from coupons.com a couple of weeks ago). I was able to score 2 packages for my classroom which is awesome because my special needs kiddos love writing on white boards. I was also very impressed with the manager today because I showed up about 15 minutes before they opened not realizing they didn’t open until 8 AM. He outside watering plants when I saw the sign and I turned around to leave and come back later but he said to just go in! It was so fun being the only one in the store and know I was the first one to get the great bargains =) I was able to find the toothbrushes for free (although the coupon beeped even though it was the one in the ad but the cashier pushed it through), the Herbal Essence Shampoo for free and great deals on the razors and M & Ms!

    • Erin

I got the expo marker deal too! I sure am glad I hung on the those coupons (they expire this month). Anyway, I was surprised they haven’t been mentioned on any of the blogs I follow. Hooray for spotting a good deal! By the way, the coupon says “washable” markers, but it still worked!

  41. Mitch

Collin – could you check the Extenze?
The single pack in my store was 49.99 and the double even more than that.
    The 4.99 seems way off.
    Thanks,
    http://www.gaynycdad.com

    • kmshac75

Im not sure if she answered your question yet but I’m pretty sure the deal is on a new extenze product. It’s a double pack of shots the same size as a 1 hour energy. I work at a walgreens and had to put them up myself. They were in our family planning isle.

    • rebecacha

Its in the flyer page 10 in the middle to the right. Even if its not 4.99 but 49.99 or whatever, it cleary states FREE so they should give you the deal, then you just need to figure out how to spend such a high value coupon! 🙂

  42. Alisha

Just got back from Walgreens and scored the FREE toothbrushes!! Also bought 4 of the 3 musketeers candy bars and used the in ad coupon 2/$1.00 and a $0.50/2 3 musketeers coupon and only paid $1.00 for all 4 bars!!!

  43. abirkemeier

I’m wondering how the b1g1 for head and shoulders will work with the b1g1 50% off. it includes oldspice and gillette so I guess my question is can i use coupons on both the buy one and the get one?!

    • abirkemeier

found my answer! I’m nervous about this trip-not sure how it will all work out!

      • joeywishtoo

Good luck!! I’m sure you’ll do fine! 🙂

        • abirkemeier

did great!! I got 2 gillette bw, 2 gillette deos, 1 old spice bw, 1 old spice, deo, 2 secret deos, 4 toothbrushes for just $13.75!!! Saved $37.64! Thanks so much Collin!!

          • joeywishtoo

            WooHoo!! Way to go!!! 🙂

      • laura

im not going to walgreens until monday let me know how your trip went

  44. Alison

Has anyone tried this deal? And did it work? The sale is on the “minis” and the coupon is for the “fun-size”.
Mars or Dove Minis 8.5-11.5 oz 2/$5 = $1 RR
Use the $1/2 Snickers fun size bag coupon found in the 6/26 RP
    Pay $4
    Get back a $1 RR
    Final cost $1.50 per bag!

Also, has anyone been successful with the unadvertised Fiber One bar RRs?

    Thanks!

    • rifat

I noticed the ‘fun vs mini’ difference also. I’ll pass on trying to use it.
I was wondering if it was a regional ‘mini or any’ coupon that someone has.

      • Alison

Thanks for the response, rifat! I didn’t try it. Good point that it could be a regional coupon…didn’t think of that.

  45. Mike

The only $1/1 for Bounty in my 6/26 RP is a Target Coupon. I’m only spotting a $.25/1 in the P&G June and July. Was it a Regional?

    • yangzi

I have never gotten $1/1 Bounty paper towel coupons in my Sunday inserts. It’s always “$0.25/1 coupon”. So, yes, it’s regional.

  46. Sunflower

Has anyone found a pair with the regional WQ for Ritz/Newtons or Blue Diamonds?? Expire 7/5!

  47. Mandi

I got the Lays for $.99 by using the in ad $1.99 coupon good Sun and Mon only, and a $1/1 catalina that printed from WAG last week when you bought a trial size tostitos! Great deal! Hip2save is my favortie site! Thanks Collin!

  48. Deb

A couple weeks ago Walgreens had SoBe Lifewater drinks on sale for $1 and each bottle purchased separately generated a 99 cent Register Reward coupon. 1 cent for my favorite zero calorie drink is awesome! I bought a bunch (all individual transactions – so each would generate the 99 cent RR.) I had about 20 99 cent coupons and went back the next week to splurge and buy some facial moisturizer that was more expensive than I would normally buy. The cashier would only accept ONE RR per item. I had no idea how I would find 20 items (that I wanted or were on sale) to make using all those 99 cent Register Rewards worthwhile without my spending a lot of money OOP. The cashier at the Beauty Counter told me to go across the street and buy groceries at Harris Teeter. I said, but the coupons have “Redeemable ONLY at Walgreens” on them, so I thought they HAD to be used ONLY at Walgreens. (???) She said she had frequently used them at Harris Teeter and they took them because they scanned as manufacturer’s coupons and if they scanned — they would take them. So I went over to Harris Teeter, bought groceries and gave the cashier 20 Register Reward coupons. They all scanned without beeping and because Harris Teeter DOUBLES COUPONS 99 cents and under, they doubled ALL 20 coupons — so I got about $40 worth of groceries for free!!!

    • kristen

WOW! This is awesome. Seriously. I wish grocery stores around here allowed walgreens RR. Sobe is my fav too, but I could only bring myself to do it 5 times because i had no idea how i would ever use up a 99 cent RR and have it be useful with the whole coupon ratio thing. My filler items range from 30 cents to $1 normally lol.

  49. Mandy

Anyone have issues with the Coppertone not printing a RR?

  50. Catherine

Walgreens has BOGO on Finesse and some Finesse is free with rebate (limit 1), so I got two hypoallergenic hairsprays for free 🙂 good since regular hairspray irritates my scalp. Just make sure they ring up the right price, mine rang up one for 3.99 and one for 3.01, so they changed both to 3.50.
