Does anyone have this and what age was your child when you purchased this? My son will almost be 19 months old at Christmas and I was considering purchasing this for him. Would he be too young to really use this? I know the recommended age by the manufacturer is 12 months old, but he is 12 months old and I can’t imagine him doing anything but tearing the books and chewing on the pen. 🙂
My daughter will be 2 in July. We got this for her about 2 months ago and she LOVES it. But I don’t think my son would have used it as much as she does at this age. But it is amazing how kids change between age 1 and 2 so I bet he’ll be ready for it by Christmas. hth.
my son is 24 months old now, and got one when he was 18 months old at christmas time. he was WAY, way too young for it. but for your son’s next birthday, turning 2 is much closer to the good age for it. hope it helps!
you’d be surprised what they can learn at a young age. I have these great dvds from Preschoolprepco and my son watched them a little each day by 18 months he talked in complete full sentences, knew all his colors, shapes, letter and numbers. that was the best spent money ever! I also used them for my daughter when she came along, again. knew all that stuff by age 18 mo -2 yrs. Dont underestimate what they can learn! 🙂
My daughter got this as a gift when she was about 2.5 years. She kind of liked it, but got easily frustrated with it. I find it a bit annoying because I could only load about 2 or 3 books on it so if she wanted to listen to one that wasn’t loaded, I would have to remove one and add the other. You load it by connecting it to your computer and logging in at the website. I thought it was a hassle, but maybe it has changed since she got it 2 years ago or maybe I don’t know how to use it. 🙂
That’s the big problem I have with the Tag Jr too! I hate the limitation on the # of books. My kids have more fun just turning the thing on and off…and my oldest couldn’t operate even the Tag Jr very well until he was 3 yrs….and by that time he was already reading on his own so obviously these taught him nothing.
This is going to be a great Christmas gift for my grandkid. He will be 2 a few weeks after Christmas
I think 19 months is a little young, but u never know! Every kid is different! I planned on getting this set during black friday (i saw some good deals on books last year) but now I might have to go with this one.
this is an incredible value. I purchased this for my daughter at 14 months, and she loved it (was readingfull length books by 4 as were 3 out of 4 of my children). I purchased it for my cousins baby at 1 year old and she also loved it. I think any age is not too early, you can use it with them if they are not ready!
So tempting, but after reading the reviews on Amazon I will pass. I already hate having to set up their Violets (the purple dog) so having to do that for the books…not thanks.
ur viloet still works we got em at xmas when tru had em we had to take two back and they just messed up again ugh we have baby tad thats forever old and it works great
I like our Tag Jr. Just for the record, that set of seven books sells for 11.99 at TRU. They are my least favorite Tag books. The Tag can only hold 5-7 books. It’s a good deal though, if you want the case. TRU often has leapfrog items, buy 2 get 1 free, which is a good time to stock up on books.
The first review on Amazon says you can put all eight books that come with the set on the tag jr with room to spare. They must be shorter and take up less space. The tag jr. I have holds five regular tag books. The reader and case alone cost about $40 so I think this is a decent deal.
remember that the reader goes under 10.00 often at target and walmart, and toys r us. but if i didn’t already have the reader, i would be all over this deal! i want the case
The case by itself sells on Amazon for $14.97.
I still have my 13 yr old’s original leappad – my 4 yr old twins love it so much we found a second on craig’s list! No downloading, I don’t have to mess with it at all. They know how to change the books and cartridges, and love reading along with it. I never bothered with the tag, it was so parent-involved and most of my friends’ children didn’t use it much!
