CouponTrade: Sell Unused/Unwanted Gift Cards for Cash (Great Way to Earn Money for the Holidays!)
Do you have a stack of unused gift cards in your kitchen, junk drawer, cookie jar or collecting dust on your desk?! If so, consider selling those unused gift cards for cash!
As I mentioned last week, CouponTrade.com is a great place to go to purchase discounted gift cards for popular retail stores, restaurants, and more. In addition to buying gift cards, CouponTrade.com is a great place to go to sell your unwanted gift cards to other shoppers. You can sell physical gift cards, E-gift cards and merchandise credit with a minimum of $20 on the card; the cards may be partially used and do not need to have an even balance.
Here’s what you need to do to get started:
* Gather up all your un-used and unwanted gift cards
* Head over here and click on the Start Selling button
* Enter the required info (Gift Card Retailer, Serial Number, PIN Number etc.). Keep in mind that all gift card serial numbers and pins are kept private at all times. You’ll also need to note the gift card balance and your selling price (depending on the brand, gift cards sell the fastest when discounted 3% to 30%). You can always choose to adjust the price if your card is not selling.
* For each gift card sale, CouponTrade does take a flat 10% commission of the gift card sale price. They also charge an extra $1.75 per physical gift card sale and $0.99 for each electronic (e-gift card) sale. You are only charged a fee when your gift card sells; if your gift card does not sell, you will not be charged. To get you motivated to start selling your cards, CouponTrade is offering to waive all the listing fees for Hip2Save readers through this Friday, October 12th… just be sure to enter the promo code HIP2SAVE when you list your card for sale (this code is valid for new and existing CouponTrade customers and can be used multiple times if you are selling multiple cards).
* If you are selling a physical gift card, CouponTrade covers all shipping fees and provides prepaid shipping labels for letters and parcels (they just ask that you ship your gift card letters and parcels within 3 business days).
* You can select to be paid by Check Payments, Amazon E-gift cards or PayPal.
Special Note: CouponTrade verifies every seller and approves each sale on their site. You can verify your account through the seller verification tab on the My Account page or when you list your gift card. There is a $1 pre-authorization credit card charge for validating each account. All authorizations will be reimbursed between 24-72 hours.
On a side note, I recently listed a gift card on CouponTrade and it sold the same day. The entire process was very simple and I was paid via Paypal within 2 days (note that it can take up to 3 days for the payment to arrive via Paypal). If you have any questions or concerns, I highly recommend that you contact CouponTrade Customer Service at (888) 838-5847 or via email at support@coupontrade.com.
Come back and let us know what card(s) you list and sell!
This post made me think of the Subway $5 gift card giveaway from summer….has anyone received theirs yet?
I don’t think I ever got my Subway card
No I haven’t gotten mine yet either and I did it on 7/17/12 and said it would take 8-10 weeks so should have been here by now.
I didn’t either – kinda frustrated.
I didn’t receive mine either but still have my confirmation email. Has anyone tried contacting them?
i was just thinking of that over the weekend and found my confirmation email. I’m going to email them and see whats up.
Is something wrong with their site? I just opened the account and when I try to plug in the gift card to sell, it doesn’t let me click on the ecard button and then when I hit next it stops with a message: Whoops…etc.
Isn’t it illegal to sell coupons? Don’t coupons say they can’t be sold?
You’re not selling coupons on this site, you’re selling gift cards.
My bad. These are giftcards.
😉
I never have any cards laying around.
I use every one of them QUICK! 🙂
10% commission on selling is a little steep IMO. I guess if you’d really never use it it might be worth it, but that’s a lot.
At first I thought so too, but if you think of it. You would only sell if you will never use it or are in need of cash. Also, the next best thing would be ebay and you have to trust whomever is receiving it or pay for tracking/signature which is still costly.
I agree with you, especially when you have to pay the extra $1.75 or $0.99. It would only be worth it to me if I had a very high-value gift card. And even then I’d probably rather ask around to see if friends or co-workers would want to buy it 😉
Ebay also charges around 10% of sales, so that is pretty standard. The listing fee of a fixed price listing on Ebay is 50 cents, so that is close to this as well.
It’s not steep when you consider eBay is at least 10%, plus listing fees, shipping fees and paypal fees.
I agree. Not to mention the fraudulent claims from the recipient that the gc was “invalid” or had “no balance” :/
Try these sites as well plasticjungle.com or cardpool.com these two sites don’t charge extra fees other than what is promised for the value of your gc
Are they waiving the 10% commission fee as well or just the physical/ecard fees?
Thanks.
how do you know how much you’ll get for it? for example, if your card is worth $50 is it the best offer, or what? do you decide?
