WooHoo! The Ibotta iPhone and Android app (one of my personal favorite apps!) just launched with Winco! That means you can now earn cash when you purchase products at Winco, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart and 26 other retailers!

And if you have yet to download and use this Ibotta app, now is your chance to do so and snag $5 cash. To qualify for the FREE $5 cash, you must sign up for an Ibotta account by clicking through this link and then you must redeem at least one successful offer from the Ibotta Product Gallery by uploading a receipt and receiving cash on your Ibotta account. What a great way to earn a little extra money!

Here’s how it works:

Head over here and download the Ibotta app for FREE (note that this app is currently only compatible with Android devices running on platform 2.2 and newer, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch – 3rd generation, iPod touch – 4th generation, iPod touch – 5th generation and iPad 2 and iPad 3).

Before you head out to shop, browse through all the different offers. You’ll earn money by watching quick videos, viewing recipes, taking polls, posting to your Facebook Wall etc. AND then actually going to the store to purchase these specific items. Note that Ibotta works in every Winco, Rite Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, and 26 other retailers in the United States and has plans to expand to even more retailers in the near future. The awesome part for all of us couponers, is that in addition to getting cash back on your purchases, you can also use manufacturer’s coupons to lower your out of pocket expense.

Be sure to check out the product detail page on the app itself in order to view the offer’s expiration date. Offers can sell out, so it’s important to redeem them before they’re gone!

After you make your in-store purchases, you’ll just need to upload your receipt via the Ibotta app. Ibotta will then verify your purchases and determine whether credit should be added to your account within 24 hours. In many cases, you will receive word from Ibotta in under 1 hour. It is super simple to upload your photo and money was added to my account within an hour. Very cool!

Once you’ve reached at least $5 in earnings, Ibotta lets you transfer your earnings directly to your PayPal account. Choose Withdraw Cash from the main menu of the app, then select Get My Cash to link Ibotta to your PayPal account. How awesome is that?!

If you’d rather opt to donate your earnings to your favorite school, you can make a donation to any school in America as soon as you’ve earned $1 with Ibotta. Just choose Withdraw Cash from the main menu of the app, then select Donate to Schools. Ibotta can use your current location to find nearby schools, or you can type in any zip code and pull up a list of schools in that area.

Be sure to tell Ibotta which offers you like and dislike by tapping the image of any product and choosing either thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Over time the app learns what kinds of products you prefer and offers them accordingly.

Also note that there is no limit on the number of offers you can redeem. Once you have successfully redeemed an offer, Ibotta immediately restocks your shelf with a new offer. The more offers you redeem, the more new offers you will see, and the more money you can earn.

(Thanks, The Frugal Find!)

How exactly does this thing work? Can somebody give a brief explanation. Thanks!

    • mel

They have a product gallery of offers. If you’re interested in an offer, click on it to take a poll, learn a fact or whatever the offer asks. When you buy the product, you click on redeem and pick the the store you purchased it from. Upload the receipt and scan the product UPC for verification and within a few hrs you’ll get the offer amount deposited.

I signed up through the link a couple of weeks ago and never got a $5 credit and I did everything I was supposed to do all the way to having my receipt approved. When is the $5 credit supposed to show up?

I have made about 10 different attempts to upload receipts from Publix but my app just closes after I snap the 2nd picture. Does anyone else have this problem? The Publix receipts are so long they have to be uploaded with 2-3 sections. I get the first portion of it captured but cannot get past that. 🙁

I had that happen the first time I used the app. I had to restart my iphone by holding down the home and the power buttons. After that, the next time I tried to upload it worked. Hope that helps!

Am I the only one having problems with this app?! I am using an iPod touch and every time I try to submit my receipts they are not approved. First they tried to say I didn’t purchase the correct items, when I know I did. Then they said they were unable to read the text on my receipts, but i was able to read it clear as day. It’s very frustrating and I’m ready to just give up on it. Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong here?!

  12. Jess

Do you have to upload a photo of your whole receipt so they can track everything you buy? Or just the section with the specific items? TIA!

    • mel

you do have to upload your entire receipt. you can add sections if you have a long one.

Sooo disappointed! I went to download the app and it isn’t compatible with my tablet (Google Nexus 7, uses Jelly Bean for Android). 🙁

  15. Coupon mama

How long does it take for the cash to show up in your pay pal account? I withdrew my money from ibotta and I still don’t see it in my pay pal account. Help! 🙂

  16. thepurplepig

I tried to download ibotta onto my android phone (it’s a concord) and it said “your device isn’t compatible with this version”. Why? And is there anything
I can do to make it compatible? Like ad more memory with an SD card? I wish it told me WHY it isn’t compatible and I can’t find any info about it anywhere.
