In my experience they give you the cheaper one for free, so you’re getting the 50% off one for free.
Generally it is the lesser price that is keyed in as free. If the register automatically deducts, it may deduct the higher priced one though; I’ve had that happen at Rite Aid.
I have done this scenario before and they did the full price one free, which is what they should do. But, who knows what your cashier will do. So that’s frustrating b/c it’s not that great of a deal if they only take the cheaper one off.
I used to work for Walgreens and if they scan it, it will come out to the full 3.00 off. That is the correct way.
FYI. My Walmart would not take this b/c it beeped. They have changed their policy and will not manually enter any coupon.
My Walmart has stopped price matching most stores also, as well as the coupon issues like this, so much that I just don’t shop there anymore. They apparently don’t need our business.
Depends on the store and the cashier, not to mention mgmt. They leave that up to the store’s discretion as to whether they can manually enter them. However even the paper’s coupons will beep, the company needs to change its codes.
Walgreens online price for Edge shave gel is 2.99 + 1.49 (50% off) = 4.48 – 3.00 (Max coupon value) = 1.48 for both cans. Thats IF your cahsier just scans the coupon and doesn’t manually enter the price. I know my CVS never manually enters a price when I use a “free” coupon, but I don’t know about Wags… I hardly ever go there because their new point system and register reward system are more of a headache than what its worth for me.
It beeped because they have to manually enter the amount of the free item, all coupons that I have used at Walmart for free items, buy one get one free or even overage beeps, hope my store does not tell me that they will not take it cause I will fight it with corporate, that is so silly! Another reason I dread using coupons at Walmart!
I work as a cashier at walmart and EVERY ONE of the coupons for the Gillette shaving creams whether they come out of the newspaper or IP will say they aren’t matching to the item bought when they clearly do. In essence it “beeps” and it is up to that particular store’s mgmt whether they will allow them to manually enter them or not. At my particular store they have changed it a few times, it is very frustrating and wish corporate would take a better stand on the issue.
I was at target the other day and the lady ahead of me had coupons that beeped and the manager came over and told her that their policy is that they only take internet coupons if they scan, no more manually entering it if it beeps so she couldn’t use I think three of her coupons. I hate when it’s a gamble if your coupons will work or not.

They were 2.44 at my target the coupon scanned automatically at $3 but my cashier manually adjusted to $2.44 so in end it was $2.44 for two of $1.22 for one better than Walgreens I guess or even less if your cashier doesn’t adjust the coupon 🙂
At Publix through Friday they have a coupon in their Sweetheart savings booklet for 1 free Edge (or a couple others) shaving cream with purchase of a Shick Hydro (5 or Silk) razor. Coupons.com just released a bogo for Edge shaving gel. If you combine these coupons, you can get TWO shaving gels for free with purchase of one razor. And if you use a Shick coupon, you can bring down your oop even more.
