Same here. Have never received the coupon emails. Only the ads. BTW, I was in the store the other day. It was looking relatively bare. Definitely not as much merchandise as they used to have. Some of the racks boasted prices that said, “From ‘such and such’ price up”. Maybe there actually were items that were priced as low as the lowest price, but the things I saw were higher than that.
I agree with your price here and up signs. They are so stupid! People only want to see the highest price and down, not and up. I spent almost $1000 at Christmas time. Went in after a few times, they had some good clearence. But I will not be spending much in the future. No cool programs booo! and no coupon here either with the email. They can keep thier emails.

Interesting that they are finally bringing back some coupons…………may be a little late though based off of all the negative earning publicity they’ve gotten recently.

Thanks for the post – very interesting. You can always tell a company is not doing well by how much their GCs sell for on Cardpool or Plastic Jungle. Penney’s has been around 25% for a long time.
My local store has not sold Plus Size clothes for the last 6 months. They keep telling me March when the new lines come out. I am sorry, but if I wasn’t a regular shopper I would probably never come back to Pennys because they didnt have my size.

Expect JCP to return to it’s old ways. (I’m excited) I just read an article about the CEO from apple, they had to fire because he lost them so much money. Survey’s have shown that people love the coupons and quit shopping there when they took them away. 🙂

I hope not! I love the revamped stores and prices! Don’t get me wrong, I love coupons (and haven’t been getting any:(), but the prices are better, the stores are cleaner, neater, and less crowded, and the merchandise more fashionable and of better quality. Our stores were so ghetto and crowded it was ridiculous. It was like the bread line in some third-world country. And with the die-hard couponers (who only shop with a coupon–whether they need anything or not) gone, I think there are more deals. A turnaround like this is always going to take time–a lot of time–and the economy isn’t helping things at all. Hopefully Penney’s can hang in there til my toddler learns to tolerate shopping! 😉

I just returned from JCP and used my coupon. When the cashier scanned my coupon, it said invalid. Even though the fine print doesn’t specifically say so, the coupon is to be used with a denim purchase, as is somewhat indicated in the subject line of the email “$5 off Your Next Purchase Plus Denim”. The manager told the cashier to make a manual adjustment and I purchased a cute little spring cardigan! Good luck using yours!
I read that differently. The subject is lettting you know the email is about 2 things: one is the $5 off of $5 and the other is about denim. No where on the coupon does it mention denim.
I read it that way too, but the coupon scanned invalid when I didn’t purchase denim. The manager said it’s to be used with denim. I showed her where the fine print said any item over $5, so they let me use it.
Just used mine online, got a cute hello kitty purse for a bit over $2 out of pocket for my daughter!

I had to call customer service and place my order through the phone. I told the lady I had received the coupon through my email but I accidentally deleted it and all I could remember was the “SAVEFIVE” part but I couldn’t remember the serial number. She gave me the $5 dollar discount!!! AWESOME!!!! 🙂
