Here’s how it works:
Head over here and download the Ibotta app for FREE.
Before you head out to shop, browse through all the different offers. You’ll earn money by watching quick videos, viewing recipes, taking polls, posting to your Facebook Wall etc. AND then actually going to the store to purchase these specific items. Note that Ibotta works in every Rite Aid, CVS, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, and over 50 other retailers in the United States and has plans to expand to even more retailers in the near future. The awesome part for all of us couponers, is that in addition to getting cash back on your purchases, you can also use manufacturer’s coupons to lower your out of pocket expense.
Once you have activated all of the items you intend to purchase, go shopping! The expiration date for each offer can be found on both your Checklist and in the Ibotta Product Gallery and Store Extras Gallery (tap on the item to reveal the expiration date). Additionally, if an offer is less than 5 days away from expiring, an “expiring” flag will be displayed and expiration date for those items as well.
Also note that you can receive Ibotta Product Offers that are exclusively available at specific retailers called Store Extras. From the Main Menu of the app, tap “Store Extras” to reveal all of the retail specific offers available to you to earn additional cash.
Upon return from the store, select “Redeem” in the lower right-hand corner of the Ibotta Product Gallery. From here, select the retailer you have purchased your items from. Read the tips, then select “Continue” at the bottom of the page. (Don’t forget to upload the entire receipt including the logo, date and total).
After uploading the receipt, check and barcode scan each item on the receipt available for redemption (Note: for iPod 4th generation and iPad2 users, you will not be prompted to barcode scan). Once submitted, your receipt is now on it’s way for review, and most receipts will receive credit within 24 hours!
Once you’ve reached at least $5 in earnings, Ibotta lets you transfer your earnings directly to your PayPal account. Choose Withdraw Cash from the main menu of the app, then select Get My Cash to link Ibotta to your PayPal account. How awesome is that?!
Be sure to tell Ibotta which offers you like and dislike by tapping the image of any product and choosing either thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Over time the app learns what kinds of products you prefer and offers them accordingly.
Also note that there is no limit on the number of offers you can redeem. Once you have successfully redeemed an offer, Ibotta immediately restocks your shelf with a new offer. The more offers you redeem, the more new offers you will see, and the more money you can earn.

It’s sad. I’ve tried to tell multiple people about this app (or couponing in general) and they are just not interested. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.
I am a serious couponer,but man this is a lot of hooplas one have to go thru to redeem little bit of cash. they should make it more user friendly.
Also, Liebotta has the worst customer service and is constantly reneging on their “offers”! I bought a perfect qualifying item and it took over two weeks and 20 sent emails to finally have them put the CORRECT barcode into THEIR system and credit me MY money owed!
I’m still mad at them about that bonus offer they took out from under me. I had to return $50 of stuff back to Walmart and customer service was less than thrilled.
I’m new at using the app. How do you activate the item? I’ve viewed a couple items and done the mini-quests, but I’m not sure if this is all I have to do. Help? Thank you in advance.
To get reimbursed, you need to buy the item. Once you do that, click “Redeem” on the app (its the 3 lines on the left side), choose the store, uload the receipt (by taking a photo) and scanning in the UPC.
Is it possible to buy the item, then go back to the app and activate it before you add your receipt?
Absolutely. I only do the activities after I buy something so I don’t waste time. You also don’t have to do all the activities (I know some people don’t like to post to Facebook) but obviously, you get more money back if you do.

…actually, you CAN post to FB and have the settings be ‘only you’ so that no one else sees on your wall or in their newsfeed. I typically go into my FB account within minutes and delete the post all together. Ibotta said there’s no time limit…so yay for that.

I have all my apps on my tablet not my phone and I don’t take my tablet out with me. Can I load all these deals, go shopping and then take pics of my receipt when I get home OR do I have to have the app running (tablet with me) when I make my purchases?
You can scan your receipt at home–that’s what I do.
I process the receipt and scan the products once I get home. I only use my phone to view the products to ensure I have met the product requirements before purchasing. But if you write down the product requirements before going shopping, you shouldn’t need the tablet.

You wont need your tablet at the store, but it does help to verify that you’re buying the correct item by scanning the bar code on the product to make sure it matches that offer. If you’re absolutely certain you’re buying the correct product (some have strict size, color/scent/flavor restrictions), you can wait till you get home to process your claim. I usually like to process my claim as soon as I get to my car; 9 times out of 10, my money would be credited to my account by the time I get home! 🙂 I hope that helps!

I have had an issue with them on the last big Wal-Mart bonus as well. I had entered all of my first purchase and went to put in my second and I couldn’t do it. I contacted customer service twice, only received one message back saying they were catching up from labor day! Haven’t heard at all from second attempt. I had already started the deal and was before the expiration date. I too am stuck with products that I over paid for. It is disappointing.
You may want to just take the items back to the store. Unless you email Liebotta 20 or more times, they will do nothing to help you.
And as for everyone talking about please use my link so we can all get referral bonuses, please watch out – there are reports all over FB and the web that these “bonuses” are not working.

Yeah. Liebotta doesn’t answer anyone who isn’t tripping over themselves with praise for the company. That’s why I cashed out, deleted the app, then sent an email to privacy@ibotta.com to remove all my information from my database. They replied that they did, then two days later their newsletter arrives in my email. Um, huh? Lie-botta much?
