Spooky Halloween Lunch Ideas for Kids
Make your little pumpkin a special lunch to get them even more excited about Halloween!
Bento box style lunches are super popular right now because you can use up whatever you have available in your fridge and get creative with your ingredients. Grab your Halloween themed cookie cutters and put together an easy and festive lunch with different shaped pieces of bread or tortillas, cheese, lunch meats, fruits, and veggies. Kids love being able to put together their own sandwich or wrap.
These string cheese fingers are super easy to make, and don’t they look real? Use a small pairing knife to carefully cut the “knuckle” marks in a piece of string cheese. Then cut a shallow “nail bed” on one end. Last, cut a small piece of red bell pepper in a nail shape and place it on top.
I’ve colored an orange with an edible food coloring pen to look like a pumpkin. Those can be purchased online or in most craft stores. Or instead – you could opt to “carve” out eyes, a nose, and a mouth on your orange.
My lunch box has some adhesive chalkboard vinyl inside for writing notes. That’s an easy and fun DIY project. You can write a note or funny joke for your child to enjoy…

I love the chalkboard vinyl you put inside!
I loved that too! I was going to order some right now on Amazon, but then I wondered- do you use chalk to write on it? It seems like it wouldn’t be safe or tasty to have the food exposed to it. Am I missing something?
I actually normally use chalk markers 🙂 Craft store or online.
I’m planning our Halloween meal for my 4 and 2 year old along with the 4 yo I babysit. My oldest loves when I make her food look ‘fun’, so our Halloween lunch is going to be fun. I’ve got snakes, spiderwebs, and bugs so far!
Soo cute!
How do you keep the crackers crispy? When I combine them with meat or cheese the end up soft by lunch.
Stacy,
The moisture in the cheese and the cold cuts cause the crackers to get soft. I would wrap the crackers separately in Saran Wrap. Then your kids can “make” their own sandwiches come lunchtime 😉
Creative genius!
Love it!
I just made “pumpkins” (peeled clementines w/ celery “stems”) and “ghosts” (halved bananas with choc chip mouths & mini choc chip eyes) for my son’s preschool snack (it was my turn to bring it for the class). They loved it & asked for more. The teacher is requesting that the party committee make them for the Halloween party. I’m so happy they’re using fun & healthy snack instead of just sugar! I’m going to recommend they do the string cheese fingers, now, too.
OWSOME!!!! Anyone knows where these lunch containers on sale???? Would love to get them, however $14 sounds pricy.
I got some divided Ziploc containers and they were less than $3 for 2! I use them for bento lunches for my 6 year old and they are perfect! (BPA free too). I really wanted the other ones, but couldn’t justify the price.
love the fingers
