Has anyone tried this ? If so how do you like it? Does it basically turn my TV into a smart tv ?
We love ours. It’s all we have for tv viewing. It plays Netflix, YouTube, and anything from chrome browser. The YouTube and Netflix apps work on iPhone and iPad. It links directly to your wireless so you are commanding the show from your device but it is not using up the battery streaming from your device. There are occasional glitches, but for the price I have been very pleased!

I have one! We absolutely love it. I’m gifting two of these because I’m so impressed. We haven’t had any issues yet.

Roku works with Amazon video. I saw there were two rokus on sale on Amazon’s Best Deals.

We have the second one and it works great! It was not that cheap last year when we bought it.
We have the Roku boxes at home but when we tried to hook it up for use in a timeshare, we found that in the timeshare where they give you the Internet access, you still could not get past the screen to put in the local WiFi password. That was disappointing. Since you can get an internet password to work on your phone when using hotels, etc., this would work better AND it uses the local WiFi network and NOT your data. We jumped on this gadget as soon as they came out when they had the three month free Netflix credit. Still getting four for all the young and older tech savvy adults in the family. Yay, done with that. Best Buy has this at $29.98 now so with the $6 Google Play credit this is a far better deal. Really does turn your dumb TV into a Smart TV but with limited apps…for now. Developers are actively working on getting more options so be patient. It will be worth it. Really great for the traveler or for those who cut the cable and have limited options on a basic television. Super easy to use!

If they do it like they did the Netflix credit when it first came out, it will come to you in the form of an email with a code. Just guessing this is how it will be done so you could gift the Google Play credit or keep it for yourself if you choose. It would be nice to have a physical gift card though.
