UPDATE: From reading the comments, it sounds like this is one of those instances where your mileage may vary. The Target Price Match policy does not state that Target promos will not be honored if you price match an item; however, some readers are stating that their Target stores will not do both so please keep this in mind.

Target shoppers! If you have a Nintendo Wii U, check out this email that I received from Hip2Save reader, Mary…

I went online to see what video games cost on Amazon.com and then price matched them this week for a great deal at Target with the Buy 2 Get One Free promo.  I was able to score 3 games regularly at $49.99 for $14.99 each.  This is a great deal if you need games or for birthday parties as each ends up being $10 (after the B2G1 Free Promo) versus $49.99 if you do the deal correct!  The games I got were for the WiiU and were highly rated as well:

If you are interested in snagging a similar deal, here are some of the games that Mary was able to price match (and some others that I thought were worth noting!) – note that the prices have changed a bit since Mary did her price match yesterday; however, they will still make for some great deals. And remember, buy 2 Wii U games and the 3rd Wii U Game will be free after this week’s promo:

Transformers Prime Wii U $9.96
The Smurfs 2 Wii U $10.30
FIFA Soccer 13 Wii U $14.50
Rabbids Land Nintendo Wii U $15.98
Scribblenauts Unlimited Wii U $15.99
LEGO Marvel Wii U $32.63
Sonic Lost World Wii U $36.97

And remember… Target will price match an item on many sites including Amazon.com – you’ll just need to show the price on your mobile device or bring in a printed page showing the current price. Before you head out, be sure to print the Price Matching Policy and keep it with you when shopping.

According to price match policy, if matching to a competitor, then no target promos will be allowed as well. Items need to be rang out separately. You will not be able to price match and get Target’s weekly promo for B2G1.

      Hi Kelly!

I just re-read the entire Price Matching Policy and I am not finding the statement that you mention above. Please let me know where you are finding this info. Thanks!

Yep, that is exactly what they told me when they ran a similar sale before Easter. They said it’s either one option or the other (amazon prices or target sale of b2g1f). I took the price matching and did not buy as much as planned.

Thanks for the feedback! I just added an update at the top of the post – this sounds like one of those deals that may work for some and not for others.

I thought that policy was only during the holidays?

Nevermind, I was confusing myself. This is a TARGET offer of B2G1, where you can indeed pm the 1st 2 items.

Im so confused on how this was all done. Im new to this
is there a way you can walk me through.

Both of my targets will let me do a price match and a target promo so definitely a YMMV situation

All the good games are gone. I was wondering if I could buy the 3 games and then EXCHANGE the two games I don’t want later when the game I DO WANT are back in stock? They don’t give rainchecks for this deal so I was wondering if that would be a good way to GET AROUND that?

    • Sandra

My store told me this was an option as long as the games were unopened and the same price.

I tried to do that before with this promo (buy games I didn’t want and do an exchange when the game I want was back in stock) and it didn’t work. On the receipt it adjusts the prices of the 3 games to make an average, I guess….ie the game I got free said “return price $x.xx” under it, as did the other 2 games. Return price was less than the cost of the actual game. They tried to charge me an extra $20 to exchange the game (that was the price difference after the “return price”) even though it was the same price. I questioned her about it and she didn’t tell me much but that that’s what the register tells her to do. I went to another Target and got it exchanged no problem. Weird, because I saw the other Target’s register do what the first Target said they couldn’t, with no manual override. Maybe registers are programmed differently?

I would encourage anyone interested in this deal to try it. Both of the Target stores I went to said no problem with the price match and buy 2, get 1 being combined. They wouldn’t, however, let me match the $9.96 Transformers game as they said they would only match to AMAZON.COM as the vendor, not one of the zillions of other sellers on Amazon.com fulfills orders for. The $9.96 price isn’t from amazon.com, but they matched for 3 other games I bought.
