Man! I just got home from cvs. my timing is terrible. I see another trip in my future. 🙂

  2. Juliana

I may be wrong but I thought the original post stated an appliance $19.99 & up?

    • mel

The ad does say that, but as you can see from the ecb/receipt, it is working on the $9.99 item.

    • shopper

The weekly ad does state regular retail of $19.99+

    • Erin

Online it says prices start at $8.29, so they are aware. CVS probably doesn’t put it in the print ad so they won’t have to write rainchecks on freebies.

  3. April

Going to test this out now nice item to donate. Wish me luck.

    • Laura

My same thought. Teenage girl for Christmas

      • April

It worked and they are $9.99 at my local CVS!

        • Erika

YUP it worked and they are $9.79 in Dallas, TX PLUS i used my 25% off making it an awesome $2.65 money maker!! Thanks Collin!

  4. Juliana

I live in Southern California and they are prices at $10.79. I gave it a shot and I got $10 extra bucks!! Woohoo! Thanks!

  5. Monica

stupid question ok you buy it now can you use the ECB $10.00 on the spot?

    • YG

      On different transaction, yes.

      Just bought one. Nice. Thanks!

      • Monica

        Thanks!

    • Sarah

No Monica. The ECB prints out after you finish your transaction 🙂

  6. Monica

    Thanks YG

    • YG

      You’re welcome!

  7. Yoli

Hi Monica. Yes you can, I do that all the time. I check out twice. Once to get the ECB then again to use it.

  8. Kirsten

So you have to buy one first to get the $10 off on a second one?

    • YG

U can only buy one conair (limit 1). You can use th ecb you get from the first one to buy other items on second transaction.

    • Kidsallgone

Kirsten: take the Conair to the register and pay with real money, or with extra bucks you already have, or a combo of the two. When the cashier gives you your receipt, your $10ecb will be at the bottom of the receipt. You can buy another Conair and use your $10 ecb from the first purchase but u won’t receive anymore ecbs for a Conair purchase. You could use the $10ecbs on other items that may or may not give you ecbs back, or take the $$10ecb home and wait for an amazing deal. (Like this one lol)

  9. Lupe

Just did this deal $9.99 used $10 eb then got back $10 eb only paid taxes

  10. Erin

My CVS only had one (only the 5/8″) of these, so I wouldn’t bother making a special trip unless you have the time/energy or really need this! I’ve never really seen more than one or two of the less expensive appliances at the stores I frequent.

    • YG

I saw three of 5/8″ and one for 1″.

  11. cpa123

It worked for me as well. I’m in Northern CA.

  12. R

anyone in Chicago try this yet?

    • Joan Castillo

I haven’t heard yet ,might try (: did you girls get in on Coke deal last week ?buy 3 cases 12 pack $8.99 got $5 ECB ( went till Thursday and then got fixed ):

      • r

No i didnt hear about the coke deal 🙁

    • me

      Yes. It works! Loyola

  13. K

Thank you for posting this deal- very helpful.

  14. Stephanie

It worked in Houston, Tx! Thanks Collin, you’re awesome!

  15. jammie

Mine are priced at 9.79. Will it work??

    • Kate Foster

Worked for me! Used a 25% off coupon on a $9.79 one and got the $10ECB.

      • Layla

Great idea! I got 30% off and really wanted a straightener!

    • Nancy

Where are you getting a 25 percent off coupon?

      • Kate Foster

In my email. You sign up on cvs website for emails and they send one about once a week.

        • k

i use to get all kinds of coupons emailed to me and mail but now i get nothing and some how my bf gets them and he goes there once in a blue moon!

  16. Julie

Worked on Frederick, Maryland!! Thanks! It’s $10.99 here

  17. Julie

Oh and great idea about making it an untrim a tree present for a teenager girl.

  18. Jacki

Got mine! Thanks Colin! $9.79 and used a 25% off coupon too! Still got $10 ecb!!!

  19. broadway96

You are not getting it free… you are getting whatever you buy next for free.. these Extra Bucks are deceiving.

    • Sarah

If you pay with ecb, it ends up being just tax. I wouldn’t spend my own money on something I don’t want, but it’s a good way to roll ecb that might be expiring.

      • Erin

That’s what I did. I hate $10 ECBs, so I rolled mine into another to give me time to find $10 worth of deals on which to use it.

    • Kristen

I know! I hate when people say it’s free because technically you still have to pay $10!

      • April

Paid $10 and got $10 back so the net is 0, what else should it be called then?

      • paintfrog

Once you have some ecbs at cvs you can roll them forever. I started shopping at cvs back in 2011 and hardly ever pay out of pocket. I just keep rolling ecbs! It helps that my cvs accepts expired ecbs so I save a lot of mine for mm or free deals.

      • YG

Yeap it is still considered free. I used my ecb to roll week to week so I don’t use actual money.

    • Kidsallgone

Well I look at it like: “Thanks for buying this $10 item. We like you so much so we are giving you your $10 back!” However I usually have $10 in ecbs and use it to purchase
      the item 🙂

    • visitor3

Understood. With these store-credit-back-deals, I had to get it in my head that I am getting the “free” credit at either one end of the deal, or the other. It can be misleading to think it’s free to buy such an item, AND that I have $10 free to spend. That can lead to overspending. For me, I consider the value of the deal for the original transaction, but the credits I receive are “real money” when I spend them.

      • MommySpendsLess

I mentally apply my ECB when it’s earned, it’s just easier for me to figure out the cost of the item that way. You do have to make sure you cash in the ECB (not lose it or let it expire) and that you spend it on something that you would buy anyway (or roll it).

    • anntots

Well, it depends on how you look at it. I don’t always consider it as free because I’ve paid for it first in order to get the ECB. But, I frequently shop at CVS, and so I always have ECB to roll that lowers my out-of-pocket, which is my goal… the lower my out-of-pocket, the better. If after paying with coupon, only paid tax, and still get the ECB for its full price, then I consider it as free. If you are not a frequent CVS shopper, then it won’t make sense at all.

    • Julie

Eventually, I always need to buy something that CVS stocks- after using my ECB and no cash out of pocket…it is “free” in the world I am living in. And- It feels good!

    • April

How is it deceiving and yes it is free if you were already going to spend $10 at CVS then you purchase this first and then use your ECB to buy the other stuff. I buy milk and other stuff at CVS with extrabucks regularly and I have to buy milk and its cheaper at CVS than my local grocery store.

    • meg

All depends on how you look at things. Glass half full..glass half empty. Yes your paying for the item but then you are getting your money back. I always have other items to buy…milk..deodorant..body wash…makeup…the list goes on. So yes the item ends up being free.

      • Erin

ECBs are good only at CVS and expire in four weeks, so no, you aren’t getting your money back. That’s an important distinction to make because newbie couponers have been known to get sucked into playing drugstore games and ultimately paying a lot for “freebies” they don’t even want. That said, it is a great deal for some people, though it isn’t accurate to say it is free.

        • Candace

It isn’t misleading if you read the post completely or read the couponing tutorials that most coupon sites have posted. I generally float about $70 for ECB that i have gotten from various money making deals, and from CVS survey emails. The first time you shop at any drug store, yes you pay full price, then you get money back for your next purchase. My first coupon purchase at CVS ever was buying Huggies this spring. Before that I only ever went to CVS when someone was sick in the middle of the night. CVS had Huggies on sale for the same price as Walmart normally carries them. I used the coupons I found through a coupon website, and got my diapers for the same price as I would have paid at Walmart. THEN I got $10 ECB back for something else. I would have bought diapers anyway, so this was a good deal for me. Then I only used my ECB on things that produced rewards. If you have extra bucks to use already, then yes it is free. Many couponers float ECBs and roll them from week to week. If this is your first ever coupon trip, then yeah, you’ll pay the money up front. So if you don’t want/need the item, skip it for something else. But if you were going to pick up something at CVS any way, then get your curling iron, pay the $10 that you would have spent on whatever you were there fore, and use the $10 ECB to buy what you came for. It’s not misleading if you read the post before complaining.

          • Erin

I don’t think anyone is “complaining” per se. People are just making a point or stating their opinions. CVS doesn’t even refer to such deals as “free”–they say “it’s *like* getting it for free,” which is not the the same (otherwise they’d just come out and say something is free and get a lot of additional store traffic). Visitor3 makes an excellent point above about accounting for the free item at one end of the transaction or the other, but not at both. You might be surprised by how many creative accountants there are out there who will think of it as getting a free curling iron PLUS $10 worth of other merchandise–even some bloggers. I’m not suggesting that’s the case here, of course–Collin always states free “after ECBs”–but these deals can indeed be confusing as evidenced by the questions posted.

Enjoy rolling your ECBs; it can be a job, especially when you no longer have children to diaper and can find better deals on the products you want elsewhere without jumping through hoops. Mine are good through Black Friday, then I plan to cash out after five years of rolling and take a much-deserved break!

        • April

CVS sells lots of food products at good prices there is no reason for a newbie or anyone to have a CVS ECB expire. You can turn right around and use this to get milk, cereal, etc. This was free for me, people who don’t like the deal should just skip it.

          • mel

The deal is only free if you have ecb’s in your back pocket to roll. But if you go in to get this deal and it’s your first time shopping at CVS, your OOP will be $10 or whatever. THEN you get a $10 ECB to use on your NEXT purchase. If you count it upon earning, as well as when you spend it, you are double counting the reward. You can’t say you got the iron free, then say you got milk, bread, eggs free too with the same $10 reward. You DID have to spend $10 of YOUR money to get $10 in CVS money. To make it easy on my spreadsheet, I only count my ECBs when I spend them, not on that earning transaction.

  43. julie

    does it work in Georgia?

    • ash

I did it in North carolina. My store even had signs up on the $10.00 products. You could always try it and if it doesn’t produce the ebc return it. Really can’t lose.

      • Erin

I’d be careful about returning things if you pay with ECBs, though. I bought something on Saturday that then went on sale cheaper on Sunday (ugh!). I took my receipt in to see if they could price adjust and it was a tremendous ordeal because I paid with ECBs (and cash). Because the full price minus the ECBs was less than the advertised sale price, the computer wasn’t allowing a price adjustment (the manager told me I got “a better deal” than the sale price . . . even though if I had initially gotten the sale price, I wouldn’t have had to pay anything out of pocket, LOL). I know she could have chosen to return the items, put the money on a CVS gift card, rerung the items at the sale price, applied the gift card, and given me the remaining balance on the gift card (which was the difference between the regular and sale prices), but she just wasn’t having that. Clearly this manager does NOT view ECBs as “cash back” on your purchase as others argue above, LOL!

        • Brad Lee

If you return something that was paid for with ecbs they pay you back on a CVS gift card

  44. Lebo
