Can anyone with hardwood floors give me some advice? I used this haan on my new hardwood floors …and it ended up making my floors look cloudy….it went off but can anyone tell me how they polish their hardwood floors and what products do they use…when we first moved in 2 months ago there was a shine to the floors and i havnt been able to get that back.

Does this work okay on kitchen floors, tile etc?

      • Liz

It works on both…but like i said i didnt like it much on my HW …but it works gr8 on tile.

We have hardwood too. According my research, steam mopping is not good for the life of your handwood. I bought this mop last year but after researching, i ended up returning it.

I do not use steam on my hardwood floors. Although manufacturers claim their steam products can be used on wood, most flooring companies do not recommend it. Maybe try vinegar and water to restore shine? Not sure what would help that.

I wouldn’t used vinegar on hardwood or granite. It’ll scratch the finish off of both.

my grandmother uses vinegar on her hardwood for 60 plus years and they look amazing. I use hardwood floor cleaner and mine look awful after 9 years

I was told by a floor refinisher and also an employee at a flooring company to not use steam mops or any type of wet mop on hardwood floors. I, too, used a steam mop and murphys oil soap at one time and they made my floors very cloudy. The employee at the flooring company noticed the cloudiness on my floors and suggested to make a bucket of vinegar water – 1 cup vinegar to one bucket of water and use a very well wrung out rag to gently hand clean the floors and that should take off the residue. The person who refinished our floors suggested cleaning them using a spray bottle of either vinegar water or a spray bottle of water with one tea bag and a dry mop. Unfortunately I didn’t listen to his advice in the first place and will now need to do some damage control. 🙁

I have real hardwood floors and whenbtheybwere installed the person that installed them said never to use a steam mop beacuse it ruins floor by adding mositure to it. He said think about why ppl use coasters for their wooden tables. He recommended only to use Bona drabs cleaning product and for 5 years no issues. Thisnis my experience.

    • Liz

Isabel thanks for ur reply…when u say Bona, are u talking about the Swiffer like system or just the spray? I really need help.

      • Isabel

Gosh sorry for all mis spellings.
When I say Bona, I mean actual cleaning product. They sell by gallon or can purchase together like the swifer brand. I use generic dry floor wipes wet it with Bona solution and clean away. You can also use the dry flat microfiber mop to add Bona to it. Hope it helps!

You are also supposed to be careful on the “fake” wood floors…the ones that are stuck down with adhesive. Something about heating up the adhesive. You can use a steam mop, just don’t let the mop sit in one spot longer than 5 seconds (or something like that.) I have the Eureka brand, and use it on my floors and tile with no issues. If i have a stubborn spot on my tile, i will let the mop sit there 10 seconds and it usually takes care of it.

Recently put Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring and Congoleum throughout our downstairs, and when I asked how & what to use for cleaning and care, both suppliers and installers said the same thing-no steam for LVP, and best and cheapest cleaner is a 5 to 1 water to vinegar solution (5 Parts water to 1 Part vinegar). You do not want to soak your floor. I bought a swiffer and put a microfiber cloth on the head, spray that lightly, and it’s good to go. If you have a little something that needs a little more care, just take either the end of the cloth & scrub lightly, or carry a spare cloth.

The best way to have the perfect cleaning microfiber cleaning cloth that I have found is the use them after they come out of the washer. They are wonderful, just the right amount of dampness! I try to always do a laundry load b4 I damp mop or dust.

Congoleum, of course, is not so picky, but still was recommended to use the above cleaner. So great, I have a spray bottle that I have mixed up & labeled. How’s that for economical?

And Liz, I don’t know if this would over time take the residue off your floor. You might want to try it in an inconspicuous area. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t hurt it, but I’m certainly no expert on wood floors. Had them in the first house we bought, and at that time they were a lot of work trying to keep them up. But that was many years ago.

Please can anyone suggest me a nice deal or cordless vacume? TIA

I’ve had my steam mop for years and love it. Replaced the pads a few times. I’ve used on linoleum and tile floors.

The walmart in vegas just told me they aren’t online price matching anymore, per an email from corporate…
