Hubby and I have been dreaming of an Alaskan cruise for years so I’m excited to check this out. At the very end of the Alaska magazine sign up I also received an offer for a free year of Parents magazine.
Perfect! 🙂
If anyone has been on one how much roughly does a cruise cost for alaska?
It depends on the cruise line you pick. I’d be happy to help you! https://endlessdestinations.agentstudio.com/
It depends at lot on the cruise line, cabin and shore excursions you choose. We did a Norwegian cruise last year. Round trip out of Seattle. The airfare is cheaper to Seattle than AK. We initially bought an inside cabin but were able to upgrade to a window. We only did one shore excursion and just explored at the other ports. It was an amazing vacation. If you go in May or Sept the prices are cheaper. We spent roughly $1000 per person on the cruise- which is all inclusive. Airfare varies widely and is additional. We found it cheaper to do it ourselves than use a travel agent but you have to be willing to do your own research & planning. Have fun!
A travel agent actually can get it cheaper, unless the one you were using was charging a fee. We have promo codes that aren’t available to the public, plus we have groups blocked on cruises which is a cheaper rate/onboard credit.
Maybe it depends on the cruise? I did a lot of price comparisons – online & with travel agents. I saved hundreds purchasing online myself.
We use a travel agent every time we take a Disney cruise. It doesn’t cost any extra because Disney pays them plus the agent usually gives a ship credit that varies depending on the cost of the cabin. Disney cruises can be more expensive though. Just keep an eye on the specials section of a good cruise line or contact a travel agent and tell them what you want to spend and ask them to contact you when a deal becomes available. That’s what we do and we have paid $1700 and $2200 for giant cabins with a verandah that normally run $5,000 or more for our family.
Do plan on tips for all the staff though. They depend on the tips. This includes your dining staff and cabin steward. For us it was about an extra $500. We have never booked an excursion and have always just gotten off the ship and enjoyed what was available. It has mostly worked out except in Jamaica. Jamaica is a very scary place which really shocked us. If you ever go there book an excursion through the cruise line or stay in the port area.
The magazine subscription is all gone. 🙁
Bummer 🙁
Cruise prices also go by which rooms you get. A room with a view is more than one without a view. Hey, You are on the same ship and can go to another level for the view. When I went to Alaska, it was not a cruise, but the Great Alaskan Shoot out and I won it from Moosehead beer( they make Guinness and that World record book). Surprised at how they have the main streets one way because of snow plowing. I wish they had that here in Michigan.
