Aldi

If you have an Aldi grocery store nearby and like to purchase organic foods, you may be happy to hear that they are making plans to expand their organic-food brands, remove some artificial ingredients from their products, and add more gluten-free items! PLUS, Aldi is expanding their selection of fresh and organic meat and produce, including the “Never Any!” brand of meats that contain no added antibiotics, hormones, animal by-products or other additives. Awesome! Head on over here for more details.

    Best cake mixes imo

    • tipaye

I agree…their muffin mixes are great!

  2. Marie

I really want to like Aldi, but can’t get past all the extra additives and chemicals. I bought bananas last week and they wouldn’t ever ripen. I think they must spray them with something. Also, I bought strawberries recently, and my daughter told me they tasted like medicine. They advertise a double back guarantee, but when I took back some gum that tasted awful, I felt like a criminal for returning it.

    • Oh boy.

So only Americans eat yellow bananas. Naturally bananas are green and harder. Yellow bananas have been treated with chemicals. Just a little fyi. Google it.

      • Rebe

Oh boy, it is quite the opposite. Bananas are meant to be yellow with brown spots and because the American market likes them firm and with no spots, bananas need to be harvested when they are green, transported in refrigerated containers until their destination so that they dont ripe too soon. I am sure they are treated with chemicals too, but any fruit, when picked green, does not ripe properly. Google it.

  3. Dany

Oh I forgot to mention earlier! They pay their employees at a much higher rate than minimum wages. Store Managers make $50k and my cousin who is a cashier makes $16/hr.

    • Jessica Timm

I love that!! Even better reason to shop there.

I don’t buy a ton at aldi but when we need a fair amount of staples I try to go. My fave is gluten free animal crackers- not about to be gf but they’re just good. Only bad thing I’ve had was a frozen lasagna. Half the price I usually pay for a reason but still worth the try.

  5. Jamia

I was there the other day and was very surprised to see organic dried goji berries.

  6. Rachael

i buy alot of my fresh fruit and vegetables there. The bananas do ripen but take longer than from other stores so I know to just leave on counter until they are ripe.

  7. Aubrey

We absolutely love Aldi! We eat 90% organic and Aldi has cut our grocery budget in half!

  8. Jen

I heard Aldi is owned by the brother of the guy who owns trader joes!

  9. Marie

The Specially Selected line of gourmet foods is amazing!! Super prices!

  10. Alissa

Aldi is awesome for gluten-free – way more affordable than the regular grocery store and it’s actually good! So excited they are going to expand and have more products!

    • Carrie

What are your favorite gf items there? I don’t normally go there, but eating gluten free is pricey and if I can save money and get some good items there I will. I heard the brownie mix. I don’t know what else. I just don’t want to try things and be disappointed. I have my favorite name brands but, geez it really gets expensive.

I love Aldi. I live west of Chicago and It is my go-to store for almost all of my entire shopping list. I try to buy mostly organic foods and the only things I have to go elsewhere to get organic are eggs, butter and chicken (I hope to see these with the coming changes!) But I buy all of these organic items on a weekly basis at Aldi: milk, salad, apples, avocados, tomatoes, bread, canned beans, salsa, frozen berries, and grass fed ground beef. I use their organic coconut oil daily. They also occasionally have had organic sugar, and cheese, and i now find organic fruit pouches for my kids. Part of the fun is seeing what new items they might be carrying each week! Love this store! Can’t live without it!! πŸ’œπŸ’œ

  12. Beth

I buy as much organic as I can and I’ve found a lot at Aldi. I love that they’re going to have even more!

  13. Teresa

I love Aldi! All their products are great, but when will they join Ibotta so we can earn some extra cash.

  14. Teri

I shop Aldi’s on a regular basis. To share: all of their products, meat and produce is 100% guaranteed for freshness and taste. If you try an item, and you don’t like it, return it to the store for a full refund. I have done that with some sauerkraut that I tried, I received a full refund on the item. So, note I try new products all the time…and I love all of them so far. As good as, or better than name brands.πŸ˜ƒ

A little or a lot of information for those of you who have never shopped at Aldi’s:

Aldi is a European grocery store, and they are all over Europe. I believe they are German owned. The stores are a little bigger there than the US. Also some US stores are bigger than others in the US. In Tulsa they are basically 4 isles, so its easy in and out of the store. I do about 10-20% of my shopping there depending on what I need. Some of the things I buy there, that are not organic, but items I buy on occasion for the greatly reduced price or just because they are just plain good are, cream, kettle chips, roma tomatoes, bananas (but they are sold in large pre-wrapped bunches), frozen fruit for smoothies, stewed or diced tomatoes (how can you ruin those), pecan pies at Thanksgiving are excellent for $5, this week they have Brie cheese (their store brand) it was good especially with their special item Artisan Crackers (a knock off from Dr Krackers for 1/2 the price), fig bars (.99), and I also like their Naan bread. There are items I have tried in the past such as graham crackers, that were just too different from the Nabisco grahams I have eaten since a child. You will learn what you like and don’t like. It is true the prices are very noticeably lower. My two complaints with the Tulsa Aldi’s (now 3) are that the produce in many cases seems like it is substandard or way past its prime. I buy very little produce there. However, that being said the Aldi my daughter shops at in SC has excellent produce. I guess we are just too far away on their supply line. Their 2# bags of carrots for .99 have always been fine. My second gripe is they are so slow to call an additional checker when there are 5-6 people in line with carts full of food. It is so frustrating. If you ask, which most people don’t, someone will come out of the office and help, but heaven forbid they should come without being asked. They are very fast at checking you out if you can get them to do it. Usually there is only one checker. Bring your own shopping bags, or pay .06 for plastic .10 for paper. At least give Aldi a try if you have one nearby. It will take a little while to get use to their store brands over your long time favorites. I’m not even willing to try mayonnaise other than Hellman’s!

    • tipaye

I love Hellmans and their store brand is the only other brand I buy–it’s pretty similar! πŸ™‚

I do mystery shopping for Aldi and I would recommend them to anyone. I will actually drive the extra couple of miles to shop at my local Aldi store. That doesn’t mean much to most, but I could shop at Walmart which means I wouldn’t even have to go into town. I could also shop at the Neighborhood Walmart right next to Aldi.
I obviously can’t share details about the mystery shop itself, but I can say I can feel comfortable shopping at an Aldi store for anything I might need.

  17. Sarah

I am a huge fan!!! Love everything about this store. I especially love it’s simplicity. I don’t even mind that they usually have only 1 cashier. Man I think they hire like super humans because they are the most efficient cashiers I have ever seen, I have never waited longer than 5 minutes even when the store was packed. . So one item nobody has mentioned so far is their TRASH BAGS!!! seriously a box of like 80 is approx $4-5. They are as good or better than hefty. I will never buy any other brand again. I love the selection of european foods and the cheese/. Oh my the cheeses are to die for and like half the price of specialty cheese in the grocery store.

    • tipaye

Interesting fact–most products there have multiple bar codes to make scanning fast. πŸ™‚

      • Sarah

Oh wow! Shame on me for not noticing, I am an industrial engineer by degree and normally notice things that make operations more efficient, that is brilliant. The little things Aldi does to simplify and streamline add up!

  18. Emily

One of the biggest hurdles when my husband and I moved last year has been being 45 minutes away from the nearest Aldi. Our small town grocery store is about 40% higher in cost than what we were used to paying at Aldi. We still drive to Aldi about once a month for our big shopping trips, because you really can’t beat the prices. Not to mention they treat their employees very well πŸ™‚ Good for them for making a movement to go organic.

Sometimes, though, I worry the organic food craze is contributing to world hunger. Being able to do things like grow crops closer together or have fruits be larger (characteristics of GMOs) could allow mankind to produce more food and really solve some problems.

    • tipaye

I’m with you on the GMO-scare…;)

    • Jenny

There is already enough food produced to end world hunger. The US wastes enough food to feed the world. The issue isn’t that there isn’t enough food..the issue is access; those that need the food are not able to get it.

  19. Beverly

I’m really happy with most things that I buy at Aldi’s and I am really psyched that they are getting rid of trans fats, antibiotics, and artificial colors. Some of their store brand items are better than the name brand because they don’t have these things added!
For a bigger discount at Aldi’s try the Find & Save app. It works like ibotta, where you use your iPhone or Android to upload receipts. Please use my code. BZPW Thanks.

    • Stacykay

I used your referral code! Would love for someone to use mine πŸ™‚ BZZL

      • Lynn B

Stacykay… i used your referral code! Thanks for the new shopping app! Here is my code for anyone else that would like to try it!
        BZL7

        • sarah

What’s benefit to use referal code?

          • Lynn B

If I understand it correctly (as a new user!), the referral code is good for an extra $3 per new user….added to your Find & Save app account. …Once the new user uses the app. Looks like the offer expires 1/31

  20. HBee

Love Aldi’s and am not surprised by this at all! They are very different from other stores, however, there is a learning curve! I don’t buy all my food there, but I do use them to compare prices with other stores (is that a good sale price? What does Aldi charge?) Love that a new Aldi is only in the next town! πŸ™‚

  21. Iza

My #1 store to shop at. You can buy mostly everything and save a lot of money even without the hassle of dealing with coupons, because it’s mostly the lowest price available. You can open your eyes for their clearance racks, you can amazed for what they have for bargain. Also look up for Find and Save app so you can save more and more, I’ll be glad if you can use my code BZ2V thanks. Try it out and don’t forget your Quarter for the cart and to bring your own tote/bags for your purchased items (unless you want to buy their cheap bags). Enjoy

  22. Simi

I wished we would have a Aldi over here in Myrtle Beach 😞 I used to shop there all the time when I still lived in Germany! There used to be 2 in NC were we lived years ago.

  23. Christina

Thank you everyone for the comments. I shop for a few items at Aldi but your opinions about other products there have made me willing to try them whereas I was hesitant before. THANKS!

  24. Denise

Try the find and save app my code is BLZN you use it and you get $3 back for new account has to be done by the 31st thank you!
