Yes, you can! There’s a FAQ on the American Girl site that answers this question specifically. You can use it on merchandise and on food at the cafes within the stores.

Yes. An AG store is 1 hour away from our Costco that carries the GCs.
They do have them at the Temecula, California Costco. I saw them yesterday.
I just spotted the American Girl cards at my Costco in Indianapolis about an hour ago!
The Limit is only 5 at my store and they are firm about it!! 🙁
