Do you know if these prices apply in store as well?

  2. Carla

Those dresses are way too sexy for a teenager! I would never let my teen wear that!

    • Alice

Those are more modest then most dresses I saw at my prom last year. And I go to a private Christian school with a very strict dress code. Appropriate prom dresses are hard to find these days.

      • Kim

I think it’s appropriate clothes in general. Check out the infant section next time your at a store. No options except booty shorts and booty skirts and the cutest designs go on halter top shirts and halter or strapless swim suits. Thank you to all the moms who second hand their normal girl clothes even if they seem “retro” after only going through 2 kids. πŸ˜„I would have to take up seeing without you😰

Omg I bought a 2 piece for my daughter cuz it was $1. I put it on her and was like nope. And I can’t in good conscience give it to anyone else. Lol. I kept the bottoms and the top just sits.

          • rebecca

you should try to find a rash guard to go over the top! that might solve the problem of too much skin.

        • Helen

Not true! The “cutest designs” aren’t only on halter tops etc. I’ve never bought a halter or string bikini or bikini for my girls and they have super cute clothes!! It’s your taste, YOU are attracted to those designs, that’s an opinion. Also, there are other length shorts at many stores, Macy’sTarget, children’s place…..just look.

    • Erica

Pair it with a nice undershirt

    • Lee

I agree, but trying to find modest formal wear is quite difficult. My daughter attends a Christian school with a strict dress code and it takes weeks to find a dress. Most girls have to buy and then pay additional to have alterations done. Love the price of these!!!

    • SoxGirl1029

Those are tame compared to the dresses we saw when we were prom dress shopping. It took us forever to find a dress and I completely overpaid for it because most of the dresses have cutouts or are ridiculously low cut or backless. My daughter was embarrassed just looking at some of the dresses lol

The dress on the far left is really pretty. But yeah today’s teens are so much more “advanced” due to technology so they probably would think of the dresses as “normal” in today’s society. I could never have worn those in the 80’s. My mom would never have allowed it. As for me wearing one now would be nice but my body probably wouldn’t allow it lol

    • Kim

My mom would not have let me wear anything but the far left in 2007 at my prom. But I’m also not sure if it was her or me I wouldn’t wear the middle or anything sexier in public even today. Good memories though my now husband took me to a bridal type store and I got a strapless blue Cinderella replica type dress from their recent runway show. 😍

Man. I hate the word prom. My mom spent so much money on my dress and the only thing k remember about it is that my bf asked for another girls number. So stupid to stay with that guy lol.

I’m just sayin. Prom isn’t that big of a deal at least for me haha

    • me

      ?????????????

  5. JA

I know our high school wouldn’t allow the one in the middle or the right because of the cut-outs. And our middle school quit having dances because the girls didn’t want to have to follow the dress code at an after school event. No girls going=no boys going, so that was the end of that.

  6. Just Me

Last year I mainly saw short dresses

  7. dblD-amber

I’m a high school teacher and these girls make me uncomfortable. Constantly asking them to pull their shirts up and skirts down. Can’t believe how many don’t wear bras or underwear these days. Don’t even get me going on prom and homecoming. See through everything and skirts so short it could be a shirt not a dress.

    • sammy

Why can’t people visit this site without being so cruel to others. Keep your opinions to yourself

  8. HBee

These would be nice stand up dresses for weddings, and some of the white ones (a little more expensive) would be nice wedding dresses (for a more casual wedding).

  9. S

Not sure if other cities have this, but in my town there’s a “Cinderella dress day” where hundreds of gently used prom dresses are available for any high school teen to come pick one out for her prom or formal event. A local dry cleaner makes sure the dresses are clean and ready to go, stylists are there to help girls find dresses that fit, girls are shown how to do their hair and makeup (and sometimes given products to use, alteration staff on site to make quick fixes, and limited selection of shoes and accessories are given out as well. The line is usually about 3 hours long but it is SO worth it! The best part is the girls have the choice to keep the dress as a memory or they can return it for others to use in the future – makes it so everyone can have an awesome prom experience!

    • dblD-amber

I started a program like this at my hs. All the girls donate their old dresses and we store them for any upcoming events or girls are to feel free and come and borrow them. We have over 300 dresses on hand. It’s amazing

    • Lily

I really applaud you guys for starting programs like this. A lot of girls can really benefit from it and it’s a good way to not wear the dresses just once!

    • jessica

My friend and I used to do this, we called it a dress harvest and would have one day after we collected about 100, where we let everyone come and pick their dress, shoes and jewelry for free

  10. Sue

Any suggestions for the best website to sell a prom dress? We ended up with one extra dress last year that was never worn and I would love to recoup some of what I paid for the dress. I looked into consignment stores, but we don’t have any local ones that stock formal dresses. Thanks for any suggestions!

    • ResseCup

I’m going to sell my daughter’s junior prom dress on Craigslist. If that doesn’t work, I’m taking it to a bridal consignment shop. Just from the dresses on the post are quite plain from the pics I’ve seen from proms around here. This year the school banned two piece dresses or basically no showing your midriff.

  11. Lily

These dresses are actually on the modest side when it comes to prom dresses young women want these days. I used to work at a store that sells prom dresses and so many high school girls come in and want very sexy dresses, like Jasz Couture style. The dresses have many cut outs, so a lot of skin is showing, or the fabric is sheer and the splits are high up. It’s the trend these days I guess and prom dresses can cost more than $500 too, when you add in alterations…

  12. Shell

Doesn’t need to be a controversial topic but a great deal! Thanks Collin.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Shell!

      • sammy

It’s great to see how involved you are in maintaining even the forums and how you remove the pointless/petty posts. Keep up the amazing work and thank you

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the kind words Sammy! You’re very welcome! πŸ™‚

Y’all need to cry me a river about the dresses. I love the new dresses these days and the ones in the post are nothing! Let your higher schoolers have fun.

    • Cassandra

Not sure about your last sentence, but I agree. The ones pictured are adorable and elegant! I have no idea how those aren’t ‘modest’. Lol…everything is covered.

    • mich

Yeah, I think the dresses pictured are super cute and definitely appropriate, even for a nice dinner or even a wedding. The dark ones look super sophisticated and at this price, I might even snatch one up for myself πŸ˜‰

  14. CJ

Anyone know where I can find a cute and inexpensive plus size prom dress?

    • Sonnet

There’s plus-size dresses on here that I wish were available in smaller sizes for my daughter. Check out what Macy’s has; maybe you’ll find a good one for you!
