DIY coloring pages

If you have a kiddo that loves to color, consider creating a custom coloring book from your favorite photo memories. It takes just a few minutes and is sure to make a great keepsake or gift for someone special.
Free ColorScape App Hip2Save.com
Although there are likely several ways to accomplish this, I recently discovered a free app called Colorscape available for both iPhones and iPads. This app does a great job turning photos into coloring pages instantly! All you do is pick a photo from your camera and the app creates the coloring page image and lets you save it or share it. I then emailed the image to myself and was able to print each image out on paper.

Easy Way to Make Coloring Pages from Photos by Hip2Save.com

I printed out a few pages and took them to Staples to have them bound together into a booklet. Such a cute gift idea and a great way to utilize special family pictures! These booklets are perfect to make for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day!

Love this idea! So much fun! Need it for android though. Thank you anyway Lina!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Thanks! I was trying to find one on android but didn’t want to recommend because I can’t try it out since we don’t have one. If anyone finds one please let us know 😀 – great comment

    • Tina Matteson

  3. 2 Blessed!!!

That is soooo cool! I’m gonna try to print some color pages for my mother-in-law. She has Alzheimer’s and I bet she will enjoy coloring her dog as well as family members.

    • Happymama

      Such a good idea!!

  4. sf

Thanks I am gonna try this.

  5. Sara

I’m totally doing this for Mother’s Day for my MIL! I’m going to print them on card stock to make it easier to color and look a little nicer 🙂

  6. Marie

What is the average price for binding? I’m thinking about making family coloring books for Christmas gifts.

    • rebecca

i was wondering the same thing. Lina, can you tell us how many pages you had bound, and what was the cost for that? thank you!

      • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I had five pages and it was around $4 at Staples. Not sure if they charge by the page or book though.

        • Rae

Are they double sided? Thank you.

        • Kim

Im not sure if it’s by books or pages but my office max did 140 pages for $4.50. I’m not sure if there is a limit like at 200 it gets more expensive or just by the book though didn’t think to ask.

    • Allison M.

      Is like to know too!

  7. Diana

    So cool!!!

  8. Lizzie

Great idea! Thanks! I think I’ll just staple the top two corners and save the binding cost. Or maybe I could 3 hole punch the pages and put them in a 2 pocket folder with the 3 prongs.

  9. mary

I just downloaded the app. I will print some for my niece(7), she love coloring books. Great idea to have her color pictures of the family and then place them on photo frames as art for Mother’s Day.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes! Love that idea Mary 😀

  10. Stacy

    Awww love Ma!!!♡♡♡♡

  11. Nancy

Awesome for my daycare kids. Thanks!

  12. Anu1c.

I wonder if we can take this image and then print on canvas to hang in a kids playroom. Cool pics to hang I’m thinking.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

That’s cool. I was thinking how fun it would be to paint or watercolor one instead of crayons.

  13. Sarah H

How cool! Does anyone know if shutterfly calendars are of a texture you can color on?

    • GAmommyof4

The shutterfly calendars are pretty slick, not actually laminate, but close. I’m not sure that crayon would do, but marker would!

      • Sarah H

        Thanks!

  14. Crystal

Anyone know how to change the print size? I printed my photo and it was the corner of a whole page, not a coloring page size

    • Sarah

When you go to print, your printer should show options you can change. Make sure “Fit to Page” is marked. That SHOULD work. 🙂

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

On my computer I first had to save the image. Then go in and print. Look for a size option-My printer allows me to select “full page” as the size and on a few I had to change to landscape vs portrait layout. Hope that helps!

  15. Carrie

I’m going to print some of these for the kids table at my wedding!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      What a cute idea!

Did anyone find an app that’s for andriod phones?

  17. Autumn

Hey I have an android, do you know of an app that does this? I wasn’t able to find color scape in the play store.

    I love this idea!

  18. Autumn

Hey I love this idea but I have an andriod. Do you know of any android apps that do this?

  19. Arlene

I’ve downloaded the app but when I say print it prints it as a picture on 4×6 photo paper and not big. Do you know how I can change that ? Want to color it in!

  20. Arlene

I can’t get it to print big. It’s printing as a picture 4×6. Any recommendations?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

On my printer in the options I chose full page as size and changed orientation – also had to save image to computer – hope that helps

  21. Starla

    What a great idea!

  22. Brandy

I will be doing some dumb stuff with this for Christmas presents this year!

I used to do this for my daughters birthday parties, I would take a picture of each child with my daughter and pictures of the kids playing games. Then make these coloring pages and include them into the Thank You cards. The kids really loved them.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Aw that is such a sweet idea!

  29. Amy

From a Galaxy Android phone you can do this without an app if the pic is in your photo gallery. Just go to edit and under the effects tools change the photo to “sketch”, makes it looks similar to a coloring book, then print out wherever you want.

  30. Wvwfufan

I did this with pics of my grandkids then texted them to my daughters to print out so they could “color themselves”! Great social distancing way to connect! Thanks

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh I love 💕 that idea!

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

That’s a fantastic idea! Thank you for sharing!
