Fyi – just read on Amazon.com that you need an android smart phone to use as a remote. I was looking for a tv for my elderly father – so this is not the one for him.
It comes with a remote but it only has a few buttons on it. It has no tv tuner but most people wouldn’t use that. You don’t need an android phone for the app, it also works on iOS.
It would work fine with the remote that comes with a cable / satellite receiver. The only thing you truly need the app for is to change the settings. I find it nicer changing them in the app but have no idea why they didn’t include any UI for it at all on the tv.
I bought this a few weeks ago for my parents’ dining room I redid. It works great and the gift card is worth $100, I used it to buy a 16 port gigabit switch that was 99.99 before tax and ended up paying $8 and change in tax. On top of that the switch has a $20 mail in rebate :).
Meant to say the gift card is worth $100 as in it doesn’t have a minimum amount.
