Cricut explore air vs. Silhouette Cameo? Any reason why one is better than the other?
Is this the one that you have to have internet to use? Since the software and all your files are on their servers. You have to rely on their server operation at the time you are ready to use your cricut. I’m not sure if it can affect the quality of your cuts or just the aggravation of slow file upload and dragging software. That is the major difference to me. But there are some youtube videos showing the precision of cuts is better on the cricut versus the cameo… so I’m still debating.
It is internet based, but you can now save projects offline. I love using the Cricut app-it is better than the desktop program.
I have both. I prefer the silhouette software to the design space but as far as machines, they are both amazing. You can’t go wrong
Silhouette all the way!!! So much more user friendly to me.
This is an excellent deal! I love mine. I recommend picking up a couple of extra mats or Krylon’s Easy-Tack(got mine pretty cheap at Michaels with one of their coupons. These cans last a long time) to “restick” your mat as it will lose its tack over time. I also recommend these blades: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00VDFMUDG/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They so much cheaper than Cricut blades, and last a lot longer. Stay away from Cricut’s German Carbide blades too-they are a gimmick; they are very expensive and only last a few small projects.
There are so many “cheats” to the Cricut to make crafting relatively inexpensive. Let Youtube be your best friend for tips and tricks!
Brittany, thanks so much for the blade recommendation. I had no idea there were generic brands available. Do you have any other Cricut tips and tricks?? I have the regular Explore and love it. Trying hard not to jump in on this deal!
There are so many tips and tricks-lol! Not trying to solicit, but feel free to join the FB page Carolina Crafters Guild-all are welcome. I have a lot of Cricut tips there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1512503955725497/
Just bought this device plus the everything starter set for $277 including tax and shipping on the cricut website. Originally $595 without sale.Used coupon code (CRAFTSBYTWO) to get free shiping and 15% off.
The new Air 2 is coming out soon. Got an email about it. Considering I got my Air 1 last holiday season, I’m a tad bummed a new one is already being produced. Faster and in more color’s. Overall, I think it’ll be very similar to this Air 1 advertised so get on this deal while you can if you were in the market for a great cutting machine.
I’m disappointed that colors and being a little quicker are the only things new about the Air 2. I was hoping for new and innovative ideas. Not really worth switching in my opinion. 😕
Question: I have a Cricut expression 2 that I bought used for my 12 year old daughter who loves crafts and even though it has a USB cable, for some reason, it won’t recognize a laptop when we connect it to the machine. I first thought it may be the USB cable’s fault, but when my daughter asked around with some of her friends, she was told the it’s an old model and others can’t connect it ho a computer either….:-( Does anyone know if this is really true? Not being able to connect it to the internet really decreases its usability. Thank you so much for any info!
Hi Susie, I have the original expression machine and I am able to use it with my laptop and the Cricut Craft Room program. I did have an issue one time where it needed to “upgrade” the software on my machine, and I found the instructions to do so on Cricut’s website. I just followed the steps and it’s worked fine since! Definitely worth trying for yours!
I bought a Explore One a few months ago on Amazon as a daily deal, but due to moving and stuff haven’t used it yet. I am wondering if the convenience of being able to cut & write in one step on the Air, vs the 2 steps for the Explore One, would be worth upgrading (the bluetooth capability isn’t a huge thing for me so not really a decision maker). Especially since it wouldn’t be much more $ to “upgrade” (heck I could probably sell the Explore One for about the cost as this one, it’s just going to the trouble of doing it). Any thoughts?
I’d keep what you have. The new one and this one just have wireless (the new one is a little faster). I’ve considered switching myself and there is no need. They also make an adapter to make yours wireless (its about $25)
I would sell it and get the Air. Much less hassle and you can easily use your mobile devices with the Air. Many reviews have stated issues getting the Bluetooth adapter to work with the One. One friend of mine hated her One, sold it, bought the Air, and now loves it!
I decided to jump on it. If I can sell my Explore One for the price it’s going for online, then it’ll only be like $20 more for the new one (cheaper than getting the bluetooth adapter!)
Thanks so much, I have been wanting this for a couple of weeks!!! I
took advantage of this great deal using an Amazon gift card my total was $140.00 😊
What a great score Carol! You’re welcome!
