Also, check out this email from reader Carolyn…

I just wanted to report that I found lots of great deals at our Barnes and Noble, which just reduced clearance from 50 to 75% off! With my B&N member discount, I was able to purchase $225 worth of great-quality items for $50!

I found Vera Bradley tech cases, note pads, and note cards; Finding Dory toys and games; lots of craft and science kits; beautiful wood photo frames and home decor; Skip Hop lunch bags and backpacks; lots of baby toys; Battat beach and pool toys; Star Wars items; Melissa and Doug wood puzzles and dress up costumes (ours had magician and cowboy); also lots of books and other miscellaneous items!

(Thanks, Carolyn & Pooja!)

Is this the sale that leads into the $2? It feels like they just had this same sale. Are they doing it more frequently?

    • Melloddie

From past experience, yes. It goes 50%, 75%, then $2. I dk how popular your b&n is but the one near me practically always has nothing left whenever I wait for the $2.

      • rae

I was told the first time I went that the sales are quarterly. I found it’s not even much to do with how popular our store is. When I went to the $2 sale ours had last year the employees were talking about a fellow employee who came in first thing in the morning and cleared a BUNCH out. They were saying she had filled her trunk and back seat of her car. I still managed to get my son a really good HopSkip backpack and matching lunch bag. The last $2 sale was the second week of Aug. but I went when things were 75% off because of the post here on Hip2Save I saw that they may have the StarWars Backpacks and they had a couple storm trooper ones left at $12 which was still a great deal for something my son wanted and needed for school. It was great quality for that price too!

        • Melloddie

Hmmm maybe they need some mgr for quality control to limit employee buys. When I went early last week, it was still 50% and no toys left already, bunch of coloring and self help and couple vera Bradley wallets

          • Erin

Why? Seems to me that first crack at sweet deals should be a perk of retail jobs. It’s not like they’d limit anyone else.

            • DeanOC

In my opinion its unprofessional to allow emplyees to ransack sales. I worked at Babies R Us/ Toys R Us in college when the big Elmo fiasco hit and they limited each employee to one. I thought that was fair. Still a perk for employees but privledges didnt get abused. They could do the same at B&N and allow employees only like 10 items or something. To go in and load your trunk and backseat is beyond excessive.

            • Paige

I have to agree with you. Retail employees work crazy hours and put up with a lot. They should get first dibs on items.

          • Jennifer

Yesterday I finally made it to my local b&n, & they still had a decent selection. While I was digging thru the clearance stuff, a manager or employee came & picked out an item, & then they proceeded to pick out every single 1 of that item that they had in stock (approx 10 of them.) Of course I was super curious to see what the item was, but never could figure it out since they took every last 1 of them. =( I guess I can’t complain since they might’ve been doing that due to a customer inquiry or request.

            • Courtney

I dont see that as any difference between the couponers that do the same. Sometimes we find the good deals, sometimes others do first. Such is life.

        • April Sweitzer

          I did not find much

  2. Faith

So 75% off the original price or the lowest marked price on each item? I don’t often do BN :S

    • amy

Original price, they don’t mark items with anything but a red dot when reducing prices.

    • Carolyn

Faith, most of the items in B&N 50%, 75%, and $2 sales do not have “mark downs” on the price tags. They simply have a big red dot sticker somewhere on the item. Occasionally, you will see some items brought over from the regular books clearance sections. They will have discounted price stickers, reflecting prices lower than the list prices. In my experience, the discount applied to those items is 50% or 75% off (depending on the current sale) of that lower price. I hope this helps!

    • Faith

Got it! Thanks so much ladies πŸ™‚

  3. JenniferS

In my experience shopping at 75% off does lead to their $2.00 sale. Items seem to stick around longer marked down to 75% off than $2.00. I would suggest making a trip while your store is at 75% off, store will likely be more stocked.

  4. Em

Mine has up a 50% off sign, not 75% yet.

    • Jennifer

I’d see what they ring up for sure…good chance they ring up 75% off

  5. Jessie

Was able to find Lego Friends Heartlake Shopping Mall at mine. Purchased it for $30.00 yesterday. My daughter was elated to say the least.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Aww, glad to hear you could snag it for her! πŸ˜‰

  6. Sara

Mine never has that much awesome stuff to pick from! I wish it had more, last time it was only two little tables and it was severely picked over and some of the items were damaged.

    • Stephanie

I swear mine is the same way! I found a few things last time but they were all broken…so disappointing

  7. Michelle

I was wondering when this would get posted…I went yesterday and got several bags full for less than $90…They didn’t have as much as posted in the pictures above but still some good deals… I make birthday bags for the local food bank and they always seem to need gift for ages 1-2 and 9 & up, and the older kids are always my hardest to shop for. They only had one small star wars themed lego set but for $2.49 I couldn’t pass it up( I actually gave that to my son)… I wish I had more time to go to the other side of town to the other store to see what they had…

  8. Karen

I thought that all the B&N bookstores had closed, like Borders. I just checked their locator and we don’t have one within 200 miles. The only option for physical books we have anymore is the library, BAM, or buying online.

  9. Amanda

There was still quite a bit at ours this morning. Big score today was an Arduino kit for $23.

  10. S

I scored quite a bit at mine, I bought 3 of the espari 18 in dolls that my girls will love. They were 12 and 14$.

    • Erin

They are nice dolls. Prettier than AG and OG dolls, not quite the quality of AG, better quality than OG dolls IMO.

  11. Dee

So glad i read H2S during my lunch break! πŸ˜‰ Still a lot of items in Dallas TX. Scored a bunch of toys for our Christmas list. Yay!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Super cool to hear you could score some great items! Thanks for sharing!

  12. maggiegt

My store has 50%off everyday for the past 2 months.really doubt they will have better selections and deeper discount

  13. Ali

I will have to try my local store that is not so local, since so many stores have closed. I have gift cards to the store and wow did I have sticker shock when I tried to use it a month ago. Their prices are so expensive even in comparison to their website.

  14. Voices4Autism

    Is this only in store?

  15. Rhonda

Absolutely crushed it today with this sale. Thank you!! Bought tons of amazing kids books and some awesome gift bag books for a toddler party. And the super score was two automoblox cars for $10 a piece. Amazing!!! XXOO

  16. Sahi

Scored 1 summer tote, 1 balloon animal kits for kids, 3 journals, 3 puzzles, 1 cake pop maker, 1 rock & rhythm band, 1 bedtime stories set of 12 board books & 3 fashionit sleepover kit for $50! Thank you!

  17. Erin

I went in hopes of snagging that Tetris nightlight for my son, but no dice. Got some other great stuff, but he has a collection of “fun” lights and I know he’d love it. Oh, well. Usually when I miss a deal, I eventually find a better one somewhere else!

  18. Nicole

Any idea on how many days after the 75% starts that it will go the 2.00

  19. Alison

Lots of cute things at my local store in MD. They even had some Vera Bradley although a shelf clearer took literally all of it away in a big cardboard box as I was getting there, likely to resell (seriously there must have been 40 things in her box). When I inquired if it was all hers she quickly said yes and whisked it all away. People can be so greedy!

  20. Rachel B.

People definitely raid the B&N sales for resale; at one of the $2 sales I accidentally hit on the first day, a man actually brought in a dolly and bought up all the electronics stuff, and he used a special license at checkout since he planned to resell it. BTW, if anyone sees the book of “Fake Swears,” buy it–it’s hilarious! πŸ™‚ (Not for kids, though, please note.)

    • Jennifer

I saw adult jokes…not sure if I saw fake swears…wanna go back & check now! I think maybe I did see that 1 too

  21. Rebecca

At 75% off at B&N today: Scored a summer tote, two Lego pencil boxes, Lego buildable ruler, national geographic stuffed animals, a travel cup and two Vera Bradley ID pouches for $24.
    Value = $140 πŸ˜€

  22. Becca

Has anyone been able to get a date for when the $2 will hit? TIA
