Do you or your kiddos struggle with tangled hair?

If so, consider switching to this type of hair brush! I have this struggle daily with my daughter because she wakes up with tangles and has a super sensitive head! It can be frustrating and I’ve tried tons of brushes. Some of them have even been pretty expensive and disappointing.

Recently, a friend of mine witnessed my struggle and pulled out this curved detangling brush from her purse and I ordered it immediately!  It works about 100% times better than the paddle brush we were using. I don’t often get excited over something as simple as a brush, but it has worked awesome! I also love that it’s super lightweight and not very expensive!

I’m hoping this simple tip can help anyone else who has this issue! I also sometimes make DIY Hair Detangler using leave in conditioner, water, and a spray bottle that I shared in this previous post. It has helped tame the tangles as well.

I work at hair salon and they are great

  2. Ginger

I have a version of this brush and use it on my long hair while blow drying, since it is vented. It does such an amazing job getting through the tangles and my blowout is so much smoother. Highly recommend.

Thanks Ginger! I agree. Bought this for my daughter but I use it too for blow drying.

  3. Cristine

This looks awesome! My 5 yr old screams bloody murder every time we brush. I think I’ll have to try this out.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Yes! Mine always has too.

  4. Kimberly

They sell a hairbrush called a “Tangle Tamer” at Sally beauty supply for $5-$10 and it works! No more “I don’t want my hair brushed” fights every morning before school.

    • Holly

My daughter has long curly hair and I was told the Tangle tamer would solve our tears and tangles. Unfortunately it didn’t solve either. Ugh!

  5. Daisy

The Wave brush available at Target works great too! It’s only 8.95 regular price too!

    • Daisy

Oops I meant the Wet brush at Target, not the wave.

      • Christina

        We LOVE our wet brush!!!

      • Happymama

The wet brush is our “magic” brush for our thee year old. I read about it here in the comments and it has been a life saver!

    • Jess

The Wet brush has been our lifesaver too!! LOVE it!

    • Cara

Another HUGE fan of the wet brush!! I will never use another brush and my kids would agree! I got mine for $10 at CVS.

    • Karri

Me and my daughter fought over the wet brush, she would take it school to use after morning practice, so I bought another one. A couple of girls from the team loved it also and went out and bought it.

I use a scalp brush while in the shower. It doesn’t cause any pain and makes my hair much more manageable when I get out. Plus it helps prevent dry scalp issues. They are on Amazon for $3-5.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Oh cool – haven’t heard of that!

  7. lori ogbuji

I’ve bought two at my TJ Maxx. They work great on my daughter’s hair.

  8. Erin

My daughter’s hair is long and very fine — anybody know if this works on her kind of hair?

  9. Meg

My daughter loves the Wet Brush, too!

  10. M P

We only use the Wet Brush & Tangle Teaser and both work great for my children’s tangly hair. Haven’t heard of this brush, but we’ve tried over a dozen others including pet paddle brushes, natural bristle brushes, etc. Will try this on for a comparison.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ya it’s interesting because the wet brush didn’t work well for us but this does! 😀

    • Amie

We ❤️ the wet brush too! It is amazing!

      • kema

I’ve used the wet brush on my hair and the denman brush with two rows of teeth removed.

    • Shea

We use the Tangle Teaser too and it’s great!!!

  11. ~jenn~

I wish they’d have had this brush when I was younger.
I’ve always had long hair and I raised my daughters the same. Another great tip, seems kinda no brainer, but people don’t think to remember to start from the BOTTOM of your hair. That way your not trying to pull tangles through other tangles and turning a small tangle into a rats nest!

    • Catie

That’s the way I brush my hair too–makes a huge difference!

  12. Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

    Great tip! Thanks Jenn

  13. MaryAnn

How does it work on African American hair?

    • kema

I’ve used the wet brush on my hair and the denman brush with two rows of teeth removed.
I meant to answer this question since I’m Black with natural hair.

  14. Julia

I can’t wait to try this on my 4 girls! We use the wet brush, but we all have very long, thick hair that falls between our waists and out tushies. The wet brush leaves lots of knots for the ones with thicker hair.

  15. shel

The Wet Brush is also a Fantastic brush!!

  16. Judi

I LOVE this brush! I bought it on an Amazon Lightning deal, and I couldn’t believe how fast I can brush through my hair in the morning! I have wavy, thick hair, which I put product in, and nothing has been so gentle on both my hair and my scalp. Don’t hesitate on this one!

  17. Diane

The wet brush is the best for me!!

  18. Amy Carnohan

The BEST detangling spray is Walmart’s Equate spray (the bottle is a light blue/green). I find it with the baby items close to the pharmacy at our Walmart. The spray + the wet brush stopped ALL tears in our house. It also leaves my daughters hair with the right amount of bounce where others just weighed it down. I tell all my friends about it and everyone comes back to me saying it worked wonderful.

  19. Catie

I also just like to use a wide tooth comb on my tangles…start at the bottom and pull gently. works like a dream!

  20. Rebecca

Oh man, I have a pixie now but before I chopped it all off, the wet brush was a lifesaver. I have fine hair that you can look at wrong & it tangles lol.

  21. Karen

The dollar Tree has a “detangling” brush too. It is an exact replica of a brush I bought at a salon. (Without the name branded on the top)
It has flexible bristles that comb thru the worst tangles. I bought it for my daughter and her fine curls…but it works miracles with my thick curls too.
P.s it’s in a clear box in the brush section.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Thanks for sharing Karen!

  22. Megan

I have tried atleast 30 different brushes for my daughter’s hair and several different conditioners but nothing had worked until I bought the Goodies Ouchless brush at Walmart for less than $10( it had a pic of a mom brushing a little girls hair). The Ouchless brush went right through my daughter’s tangled hair, she didn’t even notice I was brushing it! I tried it on my curly hair, because no detailer brush ever worked on mine without jerking my hair out. I couldn’t even feel a thing, it’s a miracle brush for our family. I have since bought 3 more as backup brushes for trips or when something happens to the original. I hope this helps anyone with the same problem I had for years!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Thanks for sharing Megan!

  23. MJ

We’ve struggled for years with my daughter’s tangles. She has very long and thick, beautiful hair, that usually stays up in a pony to avoid the mess … Until a beautician friend of mine suggested the Redken Clarifying Shampoo and high quality conditioners. Her hair had so much waxy buildup from cheap shampoos and conditioners. I used the shampoo a few times and her tangles came out like butter. I was amazed! Such a simple fix!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Great tip! Thanks MJ

  24. Karen

I have thick wavy hair…..anyone who has used the brush…..can you explain how/why the curve of the brush makes a difference? That is the only thing I can see that is different from a conventional paddle vent brush and I don’t understand how/why it would work better. Just want to understand before I spend the $. Thanks 🙂

  25. Laurie

Wet brush is all we ever use here too. It’s the best!
