Happy Friday: Helpful Tip from GAP Employee (Did YOU Know This?)
Sent from reader, Dawn:
Back in the day I worked at GAP. Not many customers knew this so I shared it with them whenever I could. Save your receipts when you shop at any store in the GAP Family. You have 7 days to stop back in, have it scanned and get $$$ back if any of the items have gone on sale since your purchase. I got a deal on a gift card about a week ago, so I bought some jeans and tights for work.
Stopped in today to use up the rest of the card and had them scan my receipt from last Friday. Got $6.25 back on the gift card. AWESOME! More people need to know about this and take advantage of it.
Did YOU Know About this Tip? Do Other Stores Offer Something Similar?

Well that’s fun! Too bad they closed every gap around here like 10 years ago!! 🙄
Didn’t know this…thanks for the tip Dawn 😊
I knew this…old Navy does the same thing
Works at Old Navy too! They are happy to do it.
Good to know! Does it work at gap outlet too???
Yes
Great tip, thank you! I did not know this was available.
Justice has a 14 day policy for this. It’s fantastic.
Janie and Jack has 7 day policy for price adjustment
One of the employees told me about this a few years ago but sadly the nearest gap is 1 hr away. Too bad though they are so friendly and nice at that store and have better discounts that online.
Great tip! Now all those receipts crumpled at the bottom of my bag can serve a purpose. I knew not cleaning out my purse would be a benefit. 😜
Good to know! I knew about price adjustments, but thought I had to know what changed price. Now no work involved!
target & other retailers price adjust too! 😉
Not at my Target!!!
I’d contact corporate. They’re not following company policy – you have 7 days.
Yes I knew about price ajustments. Old navy is very good at it. But some locations do 14 days while others do 7. If you happen to go in twice within a week and something else has gone on sale or the item has dropped again you can scan it each time. Works great on clearance items too.
Old Navy is 14, GAP is 7. It’s not different stores it’s different brands.
Is there anything like this for online purchases?
Yes, have done for years on online purchases..a store’s price match policy is under the Customer service link on their site.
Yes! Paribus automatically checks all my purchases and then requests price adjustments if something drops in price. It’s fantastic! https://paribus.co/i/B2YH24
Thanks for this! I never knew about Paribus. I signed up under you. if anyone would like to sign up under me, I’d really appreciate it.

Today’s sale was even better if you are a gap card holder – 70% off instead of 50%. And earn GAO cash for every $50 purchase.
Cami, did that include clearance as well?
Inna: You can sign up for Paribus. They’ll look for price adjustments for you and ask for the money back on your behalf. They take a small cut, 5-10% I think. I don’t get adjustments often, but I’ve been using it about 6 months and have gotten close to $50 back.
I always wondered if this really works… Or if it’s more scammy
Paribus really works! They take a portion of the money returned, but it’s far better than getting nothing back!
Off topic but if anyone has any kohls $5 or $10 expiring tonight, I would greatly appreciate them!! Promise to pay the favor forward

Same with Staples!!! I used to work there too and not many people knew about that
Knew this but most other stores give you 14 days and Amex will give you 30 days if purchased using their card 😉
WOW! That is awesome! Does anyone kniw if JoAnns price adjusts? I just bought a bunch of fabric that was $2 off, but now they just lowered the BF price to 60% off! If I go back tomorrow morning, you think they will refund me? TIA!
Worth a try!! …and you can always tell them you will happily return and repurchase!
This is awesome…especially when you can find cashiers who don’t treat you like you are trying to steal!! I bought my daughter a coat 2 days ago at Target…and when I was out there tonight, the same coat was 30% off! I asked if they could refund the difference and I was told NO! They said standard policies don’t matter around Black Friday and they will do no price adjustments through Dec 2nd. I told them I would just buy another coat tonight and return it with my old receipt. 😔 Guess they don’t mind the extra work it takes to have a whole bunch of returns!!
Price adjustments only work if we have had not used coupons right? I think at Gymboree they didn’t like me asking for price adjustment with coupon used.
You do lose your coupon at Gymboree if you price adjust…but we have so many magazine subscriptions that I always have another coupon I can use on the adjustment.
I went into target recently To get a price adjustment Done since the item I bought it going on sale. The guy at customer service actually told me the only way to get the price adjusted would be to return the item. I said that’s no problem I don’t have it with me I just brought the receipt but I can bring it back in and just rebuy real quick. He said no if I bring it back into return it they have to put it back on the shelf before they’re allowed to sell it back to me. I laughed in his face and walked out. Some people are clueless!
does anyone know how to use gap merchandise credit when shopping online? im looking for a gap hoodie but it is only available online. is there a way i can use my gap merchandise credit to purchase it?
Merchandise credits that you receive in store can only be redeemed in store.
Did not know this..thank you for sharing!
Walmart and Target also does this. If you have something on layaway at Walmart and the price drops, it automatically will drop the price difference.
Yay! I did not realize Gap did this. This is one of the many reasons I appreciate this site so much! I am always learning new ways to save :). Thank you all for all of your efforts to keep us posted!
I did recently learn J Crew price adjusts as well although I am not certain on the window. I ordered online and did not like the way one item fit. When I returned it in store, the cashier refunded me waaaaaay more than the cost of the item and when I asked, he said the shoes I had also ordered were now half off so he refunded me the difference! Such a nice surprise!
kohl’s does this too!
So glad I could help, love this site and the deals Collin and her team share. And yes it does still refund if you use a coupon. I used a 10% off survey coupon and got the difference back from that too 🙂 And thank you for the Amazon Gift Card Collin, you made my day!!!
i have to wonder if there are stipulations regarding special promotions like Black Friday sales and such. I know I’ve tried to exchange sizes for jeans I purchased at Walmart on Black Friday and was told that wasn’t allowed. So technically one could go to Old Navy or Gap before a big sale promotion starts (i.e. like Black Friday) and buy everything they want while the stock is there and then go back after the sale actually starts and have the receipt adjusted to reflect the sale prices?! It just seems too good to be true.
Store was 50% off when I went in on Black Friday and had my items adjusted. Took the 40% off from last week and adjusted it to 50% off, also further discounted the 10% off coupon I’d used.
Here’s a another tip. I took my daughter to our local GAP store to make sure we knew her correct sizes. I confirmed with a store employee that they were offering the 50% off for GAP (Old Navy & Banana Republic) card holders before selecting items to purchase. We looked over the entire store and selected about 10 items, 9 of which happened to be sale items. As we were checking out the discount did not apply to any of the sale items and I asked about it. I was told the 50% off was only for non-sale items. I decided to only purchase the 1 non-sale item and have them take the rest off. I then went home and put the exact same items (correct sizes) into my online shopping cart and the 50% off sale applied to the entire card, both sale and non-sale items. I saved over $300 total and my grand total was less than $180 after using my Banana Republic Rewards. The 3-5 day shipping was free because I’m a cardholder. I will probably avoid the stores since I can get the same items for more than 1/2 off online plus it’s easier to shop online with 3 young kiddos!
Can any one say that with only receipt, they will do price adjustment or we have to take the purchased item too?
I’ve been fine only having the receipt.
Thanks for the reply Tia
