Closet Hanger Trick

I don’t know about you, but I go into crazy spring-cleaning mode in January. I just love cleaning out closets and donating as much as I can! It really does make me happy, especially after the influx of Christmas gifts. This handy closet trick is such an easy way to figure out what you should hang onto, and what you can safely let go of.

New Year's Closet Hack

All you have to do is turn all your hangers around so they’re backwards (yeah, that’s gonna drive me crazy, too!). As you wear each item, you’ll just switch the hanger back around so it’s facing forward again. By June, you should be able to tell which clothes you haven’t worn, and you can start pulling them out to donate. So easy!

I did this last year. It was eye opening!

I KonMari my wardrobe in January last year and got rid of more than half of my clothing, and didn’t miss any of it.

They do say that you tend to wear your most favorite clothing 80% of the time and least favorite only 20% of the time so this should be easy for me.

      Same!! Don’t miss a thing!

  4. Kari Howell

    I do this every year!

Have done this for several years except I hang stuff backwards after I wear it.
Then I just pull everything that didnt get turned around and donate it.
    I dont even look at!

Thanks for the reminder! I’m actually going to do it this year. I’m already rearranging the bathrooms so why not get the closet, too!

I swap out my clothes for summer and winter. (I have a small closet). So twice a year I do this and it’s like I get a whole new wardrobe. 😊

I do this too! I always end up getting rid of summer clothes every year. Winter clothes are harder because I really haven’t had enough until very recently lol.

    I will do this

My closet’s too small to hold summer and winter clothes so twice a year I “swap” out. As I’m swapping, I have 3 piles. 1) I love this! 2) I’ll probably wear this 3) Where did this come from? Pile 3 is donated. Pile 2 is saved for one more season. If at the end of the season I can’t remember wearing it, it goes into the donate pile. Another thing I like to do is as I buy new to me (I rarely buy new, and prefer thrift/consignment) clothes, I take out the same number of items from the closet that I haven’t been wearing and donate. There’s nothing better than not feeling overwhelmed with “stuff”, and usually someone else can use it.

Great ideas! I totally agree about letting go of “stuff” because someone else could surely use it!

Great idea! I’m gonna try this. Thanks!

My closet is so dusty that I can tell simply by which ones don’t gather dust!

I have a hard time getting rid of clothes. I do not have many to begin with. my closet is not even half full. It is vary difficult for me to find things that fit well. I still have some sweaters from highschool that I wear and I’m 34.
