I read that the palm oil ingredient could cause cancer? I think that is why the price is so low.

    • Dorothy

I’m not sure about the palm oil, but the artificial flavoring vanillin is not good for you.

      • Dorothy

Too bad though, I loved Nutella before I knew. 😓

    • Rita

Yes, this was just in a study. The palm oil is cooked at a high temperature which causes it to be hazardous to your health and possibly cause cancer.

      • Holly

Palm oil may be carcinogenic when processed at higher temperatures, which it is not with Nutella. If you want to worry about cancer, look at the nitrates and preservatives in meats/lunchmeats. How is that still even legal to use known carcinogens as preservatives in deli meats?

        • Amy

I agree. I hate all the junk they put in food. I hate food coloring. It comes from oil. You would think schools, and hospitals would step it up and only serve healthy stuff. I don’t like that schools serve chocolate milk and strawberry milk. Why give kids the extra sugar? I wish they only served white milk. If parents want to pack junk in the kids lunch then let them but serve no junk from the cafeteria.

I’m glad someone cares. On here sometimes I feel like health doesn’t matter, only the low price. I regret couponing for products like pantene, dove, suave etc that test on animals, I stopped couponing once I realized that most companies issuing coupons are those that support animal cruelty and/or bad ingredients when it comes to food like red 40, palm oil, high fructose corn syrup… So many on here are still blind to the high cost (our health, animal welfare) of these *low* cost products. I ocassionally come on here to look for deals for organic products or computers etc.

      • Dorothy

        👍

      • Miriam

I occasionally coupon but not as I used to. And even if the price is low I’ll skip brands that test on animals or by reading the ingredients you can tell is bad. People need to read and inform themselves more. Just like you said; pantene, loreal, dove, revlon, etc. I just hoped that people could understand how lots of this companies do business but as long as the price is low, they’ll be restocking shelves: (

        Monika,
I shop at Krogers because they have digital coupons for oramgic food and other natural products.

    • Brittany

I thought palm oil is better for the environment/animals … They had a display at the zoo about using products that contain sustainable palm oil….but maybe I am remembering wrong?

      • Miriam

You can watch cowspiracy on Netflix and have a better idea how palm oil, meat and dairy industry, eggs and a lot of other industries are affecting the planet and our self.

      • Shelly

Harvesting palm oil os causing some wildlife to be nearly extinction.

  2. Renee

Awe man I was just at Target! Oh well I did get star wars light sabers for 0.30 cents and Star Wars socks for 0.10 cents each so my boys were happy lol.

    • Tina

Where were the light sabers? We are having a stars wars birthday!

      • Renee

They were with the Valentine’s stuff in the back of the store. Also some Star Wars stickers that would be great in favor bags!

    • Luna

Darn I thought those were bubble toys…silly me will need to make a trip again tmrw

  3. Heather

3.31 near me but still a deal!!! 🙂

  4. Loyda

    Mine is $3.31.
    Good price anyway!

  5. Karen

    Does anyone know the DPCI?

    • Katie

      • Sharan

Hmmm – when I put that # in to the target app it says $6.62. Do you think it will ring lower in the store?

        • Jen

Sharan, I’ve found brickseek to be accurate on pricing about 75% of the time. Most of stores in my area show 3.31 but 1 store shows it as 6.62 also.

  6. paula

They were only $1.70 at my store . I did not have the coupon with me but bought 8. They do not expire until Nov. 20th of this year and my kids LOVE this stuff! I was actually about to buy some for regular price! I got sooooooooo many good deals today! Did not get much sleep last night and woke up at 5 am to be there when the store opened but totally worth it. I got a TON of stuff. Saved over $900! Make sure you price scan any clothes that look like they might be considered Valentine. There were a lot of girls cat and jack clothes that were mixed in with the regular clothes that were included in the 90%. Totally made my day!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. kim

This stuff, though delicious is terrible for you. I feel awful that i have fed this to my children before i knew any better!

  8. hellfire gainz

The occasional Nutella treat isn’t going to hurt anyone. If you feel that horrible against it, then you also need to omit all other processed foods. Coconut oil at one time was considered a very unhealthy substance to consume. Now, it is back up on the boards as one of the best. Studies claim this, and this and then years later, they change their claims.
    Moderation.

    • Monika Robinson

Occasional like every day or once a week. Nutella is pretty bad, combined with white carbs makes a completely useless breakfast. :—-]

      • hellfire gainz

What is white carbs? And by occasional I mean once or twice a month.
Science says a carb is a carb. Doesn’t matter if it’s a fruit, a vegetables, or bread. Your body will process it the same. It only matters long term health.

  9. Holly

I thought palm oil was only a concern at temps above 200 degrees? And Nutella is processed below 200 degrees. I’m sure we’d all agree it’s no health food, with the first ingredient being sugar, but why is this controversial? It’s no more “terrible for you” than all the other sugary, artificially-flavored foods out there.

  10. Dana

    Mine says 3.31

    • Julie

      Mine too

  11. Erin

I didn’t have the coupon and didn’t buy but my target had a big cart full mixed with valentines stuff. Wish I had the coupon and I would have given 4 of these to my coworker who is crazy for this stuff!

  12. Tori

Brick seek says $3.31 but when I scanned it in store it was $1.98. Picked up 2 jars

  13. Melissa Rice

The thermally altered byproduct of a chemical component of palm oil that is sometimes produced when it is processed in a way that Nutella claims they avoid may potentially be a carcinogen to infants and some adults who consume it in other products.” But, of course, such a headline doesn’t sell many newspapers or generate online click-throughs.
Just found this from the internet.

  14. Rebecca

To each their own. We’re all going to die someday, and I’d rather not be miserable while I’m still here. So maybe I’ll have an occasional snack of Nutella… I’m not smoking, drinking, or shooting up, I think I’ll be OK.

  15. Nikki

we are all going to die someday people, enjoy life while you can, theres no need to make a huge fuss, i hate to break it to you but there are studies that prove pretty much every single thing on this planet will give you cancer if you eat it or use it in excess…

  16. lovlyritar

I got this yesterday, at Target, for $3.31, it was still a great deal and used the coupon for $1.50 off. I did not see the Valentines for 1.98.

  17. Labacci

If you care so much abt animal testing, then you are a hypocrite if you ever take any meds, you or anyone you love. ALL OF THEM WERE AT SOME POINT TESTED ON ANIMALS.

  18. Labacci

And I bet that some of you complaining abt nitrites eat a bunch of salt which causes stomach cancer and even worse, you might smoke or have a sedentary life and eat a ton of meat and cholesterol and will die of a stroke or heart attack. The likelihood of getting cancer from nitrites is rly low. Go and do some scientific reading instead of repeating crap from health mags

  19. Connie

The Nutella that was ringing for $3.31 yesterday is now ringing up for $1.98 today by me. Still some regular label jars in the peanut butter aisle that are 70% off.

  20. karen

I just checked my target and they were 1.98 woot woot used the 1.50 off coupon. worked just fine…thank you hip2save my son is going to be very happy 🙂

  21. Momto2

Brickseek showed $3.31 at my store but it rang up $1.98! This was the regular ones on the shelf. Not marked so they had plenty. Yay!
