Do you ever notice those cute re-usable bags found at the Dollar Spot at Target with different characters and themes (check out all the $1 bags I spotted today at Target here)?

Use these inexpensive bags to make super cute wall art in just a few minutes by also using blank canvases and thumb tacks.

DIY Canvas Art from Dollar Bin Bags

Supplies Needed:

Directions:
Cut reusable bags leaving enough room around the edges to wrap behind the canvas. Attach bags with the design facing outward using the thumb tacks on the back of canvas where the wood portion is.

Create a Reading Nook Hip2Save.com

Here are the ones I made a few years ago to hang in a reading nook area for my kids. I also painted some matching cardboard paper mache letters from the craft store using craft paint and hung them all with mounting tape. Such a fun and easy project!

This idea would be so fun in a nursery, classroom, or kids bedroom! I’ve seen other themes and character bags throughout the year so keep your eyes open if looking for a specific kind other than Dr. Seuss. With the excess portion of the bags, you could maybe even make a cute homemade banner by cutting it in triangles.

Can the canvas be found anywhere. under $21 each? That’s a lot of money.

    • Susi

      That’s actually a pack of 5 for $21
You can use the 40% off coupons at hobby lobby or Michael also has coupons you can use to possibly lower the purchase price

    • Crystal

The link she has above is for a pack of 5 canvases for $21 (not each).

    • lillee

It’s $21 for a pack of 5. Four bucks and some change for each!

Thank you for the idea! I have a few Dr. Seuss bags left from my daughter’s 2nd birthday, and I didn’t know what to do with them, but now I do.

I’ve done similar projects and used wood. They have planks of wood (I don’t know the exact terms here haha) at stores like Home Depot. I buy them at Menards for between $.50-2 depending on the width you want. They’re about 3 feet long and I cut them to get about 3 from each piece. I’ve used them for things like this and also painted then apply photos using mod podge. It’s so cute and cheap!

  15. Cristine

This is such an awesome idea and with all the different little bags they have it is so versatile! I think I’ll try it with the Star Wars ones we have laying around.

  16. hahn

Man wish I’d saw this 4 years ago when I did my daughters baby room in Dr. Seuss! But still think I may do this for my classroom!!!

  17. t

I bet you could use heavy duty cardboard from a box instead of the canvas. It would be much cheaper.

  18. Rebecca

I got a much larger pack of canvas(think it was a 12 pack, 8×8) for $10 after coupon at A.C.Moore. They have other sizes too. I saw some Star Wars & Avengers bags like those at Dollar Tree the other day.

  19. Laura

I’ve done something similar. I use a gift bag that I love from the dollar store and frame it in a 8×10 frame also from the dollar store. Inexpensive, quick and super easy. Not to mention cute!

I wonder if these would work using the $.25 cork boards at dollar general this weekend.
