I have the larger version of this and it’s awesome! The herbs get out of control very quickly if you don’t pick them all the time. The lettuce grows just about enough for 1 salad for each pod. We are just now getting tomatoes in and you do have to fill it with water every day when the plants get bigger but it’s totally worth it!! My daughter loves to watch the plants grow, and it’s great to have fresh produce in the winter!
What do you do when you have too much of something?
Dry the herbs, share with friends, salad for breakfast? 😉 know anyone with chickens, chickens love extra produce
We either cut them and dry them, and then store for later, or we put them in the composter. We also ran out of room when we put tomatoes in because they started to get really big, so I took the lettuce out and suspended it in a cup so that the roots still get water and put it in a sunny window and it still grows perfectly!
Oh awesome! Thanks for the feedback Chelsey!
I have one of these and they are actually a lot smaller than they look. This was good to me, because I didn’t want something that took up a ton of kitchen space. That being said, I haven’t grown anything yet. It sat on the counter for awhile waiting to be hooked up. To give a reference it takes up about as much room as a large toaster. It holds three pods and is automatic. So far it’s alright with me.
Cool! Thanks for sharing your feedback Carrie!
For the lettuce you can cut a couple pieces from each plant and it will continue to grow and provide.
I dont have one of these, but I do garden. Its called, cut and come again. Others might call it something else, either way, you get more lettuce from one plant if you do that. Of course if you are only growing one lettuce plant it will be tough to get enough for one salad.
Does lettuce need shade or sun?
