  The one sold by Walmart is $99.99, perhaps you were looking at the one sold by other retailers on the Walmart site? Just keep swimming, indeed!

   Amazon always has this for $99 unlocked but has ads on the lock screen. My teenager loves this phone and said the ads aren’t even paid attention to and goes away once he opens the home screen. For Verizon prepaid this phone is on sale for $49. (40% off.) Fantastic phone for the price with no contact!
